In this video we did some serious upgrades to the C10! we started by removing the Muncie M21 (which we originally thought was an M22) and installed the brand new 2020 Tremec TKX! It was an easy swap because it was pretty much a direct bolt-up. All we had to do was fab up a quick little transmission crossmember out of some tubing and cut a slightly larger hole in the tunnel. It shifts very smoothly and it's a much nicer driving experience, not to mention how much easier it can maintain highway speeds. While it was on the lift we took the opportunity to swap out the old worn out shocks for some new ones and replace the steering bushing. We got pretty busy towards the end of the build so off-camera we swapped in an Ididit steering column with a Grant steering wheel, a Classic Instruments Gauge Cluster, and Jason installed a new wiring harness. That concludes the 1965 C-10 Shop Truck build and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Thanks for Watching!

This is a tremec tkx transmission. This thing came out in 2020, so it's very new really great can handle up to 700 pound feet of torque, and this is going to replace what we currently have in the c10, which is a muncie m22. Us, like the one they call a rock crusher, is actually a really great transmission. It's super cool.

It's a street race transmission, but the problem we're running into is we're going to want to tow with this truck and use the highway. So the way it's currently set up, you kind of start out at like three grand rpm and just kind of you know, get off the clutch lightly and then it kind of tops out around 55 60 miles an hour. So it's really kind of useless in both ways. We want to use it, we can't tow and we can't go on the highway.

So that's why we got this thing. Okay here she is, she is brand new okay. He is pretty so sick. Yeah.

Look at the like nice strip, plate and everything: okay, super gentle! That's some! Okay! Yeah! That thing is gon na, be such a big upgrade. Okay, nice, it seems pretty light nice, so this will have to go to the shop and get shortened yes going to the little research we've done. It should not fit, but we're going to try anyway. I need to hammer it.

You know yeah, you could weld it. Yeah that does not fit no, so this should be a 27 and it should be a 36. got it. Traffic did not come with a new shifter handle.

That's all right. We can totally use this trick, one it hurts to kind of keeping it old-school, keeping it retro. It's got a nice angle on it too, so it brings it right up to where you're gon na be going it'll be cool. Hopefully, you're gon na need a new shift flaw, but the white's classic all right start doing the oh, no jason.

Should we get a jack yeah, this one's down, get the jack for clear, huh come to papa okay, i can break people good, oh, for the most part, just keep it coming down. Yeah we're clear man, the rock crusher. We need to measure our pilot bearing um a little. I don't know what it's called on the transmission end, but we need to make sure it's the same before we destroy this cool so well that really wasn't going out bearing how sick is this transmission dude that thing's tiny? This is like your old-school hot rod, solution.

Man, it really is so rad i just like roll it on. I don't want to it's just the shift linkages it's better than your spinal cords. Yeah, it's it's not even bad pull it out extract, be careful! All right! Give me a new one, nice bit of overspray on it. It's like pink, but that is a nice they're, pretty similar size, wow yeah.

This thing will clean up nicely. It's in really good shape. It shifts super well, i think we'll get a good bit of money. Back from this.

We ran into one small problem right here we have a 10 spline clutch and on the tremec we have a 26 blind. So really everything else is exact same we're going to be running just an 11 inch clutch, but 26 spines all right guys. So we were in luck. Uh.
We were looking at our shift position and versus the muncie. The tremec was just a little far back, so we took off our shift plate and luckily tremoc is very smart and they designed this perfectly so that you can literally, if you want to change it up by two inches. You just flip it over and it works exactly the same. There's no, no, nothing complicating it.

It just straight up fits so rock crusher is getting cleaned up, ready to keep going, sell all right yeah. Now that we got the uh all of the seat out, we can see how the trash is back here. Trash treasure treasures. Yes, we have a little knife.

We have some rain x. We have pain away, carmex, a screwdriver, hey yeah. We got a lot of goodies dude. There's three left! Oh well! This knife is from 2007, i'm sure it's not the gum, isn't any older than that.

Pretty good. All right so yeah a little bit of modification required for this transmission, swap we ended up having to kind of notch the seat because the shift lever would hit the seat. So what i'm going to do is you know fold these down? I'm going to put a like piece of fabric as a patch in between these two, the seat will be notched. We'll have our room, i'm going to ask the seat because the lever points really close down here but yeah i mean honestly, it's not horrible dude.

It's perfect, i'm just sitting here driving, oh dude, it's also like easier. That's sick, dude! It's like it's just like like! First second third, just like glides, it's in the middle too, so here's our pretty simple design for our rear transmission crossmember. It's just one tube going across. We have this super cheap multi-purpose, 11 transmission mount and a little bit of angle iron, and this is gon na - make a pretty sturdy mount.

It's really simple and it looks nice all right, so we had to get our drive shaft shortened. We got it balanced and we're about to put it in. We have our cross member mounted up so we'll see how everything works out. All right, nice, okay, get one of these, so this is our steering shaft.

You know it's not super. Pretty the previous owner cut it up, but we got this nice little coupling here with splines on the end and that'll fit right up to our steering column. So it's going to be pretty easy to get. This thing lining up.

Okay, all right! So, while the truck is up on the lift, we also get to replace the shocks so like. Let's see how bad it is, that's pretty bad yeah! These things are garbage, so yeah having the shocks there will make. It feel so much better already seems like this shock was in good shape. Oh, that is nasty ugh.

What's the rebound like on this one, so we're both in the shock up. We notice this new bolt is loose yeah glad. We noticed that we'll tighten it up, so wow yeah guys it's actually night and day. We did change a lot of things with it, but the searing the shocks the brakes and the transmission are all dead.
Perfect now, and it feels like such a dream to drive we'll be uh taking out for more test drives, we'll get some footage of you know inside the cabin driving but yeah just for that little rat lap around the block. This thing is amazing and a complete chance. For me, this thing is amazing. The steering and the and the suspension is also a lot better, which also just like greatly improves its feel and wow yeah.

Just that little steering coupling already like made, it feel a lot. There's less dead zone. It's definitely not like you know darty, but it is, you know way better. We definitely need to turn down the idle.

So so one of the major problems with this thing was that it was basically we couldn't register it um. So a lot of the wiring was bad. The horn didn't work, the blinkers didn't work, the speedometer needle was broken. We have no idea if it worked or not.

The temp gauge did not work and there was an oil pressure gauge over here and that thing showed four psi all the time. So i had to make a lot of big changes and we actually had did not video any of them just because we were pressed for time, but this area right here is super nice now, so we have a grant wood steering wheel. We have an. I did it steering column, i got it in just plain metal and then clear coated it and it honestly looks amazing, and then we have a classic instruments.

Reproduction, basically um dashboard. So what's nice about it is that it shows us the rpm, because that wasn't on the old one. The temp gauge shows us what temperature it was because the old one just said hot or cold. So that's awesome.

We have a volt meter. We have oil pressure, the fuel gauge speedometer and even a clock. So you know this thing. Is everything we'll ever need for this thing and i'm super glad we got it though it was pretty expensive.

It's definitely worth it. So then, another giant thing that i've been working on every day after work was the wiring harness. There was a lot of problems with this thing we had some sketchy wiring that would turn on and off the windshield wipers and stuff. So basically, all the wires on this thing are brand new they're, not totally cleaned up yet because we're just trying to get it registered.

But um we'll show you some shots of the engine bay and you know the wires are routed nicely they're, just not wrapped yet, but um yeah big upgrades, good job.

Did you measure bellhousing runout and did it need offset dowels? Love the truck

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ETM says:

I'm no saying the transmission was a bad idea on the contrary the transmission from what I hear is quite good but a lot of your problems you have could be related to your rear end gears now I'm not saying its all the rear end but it could be part of the problem. Gata go will watch the rest later

if yyall changed the trans to tow you arent very smart, you should have changed rear end gears not tranny. You should stick with go carts and leave trucks and cars to the big boys.
