for the way i watch, consume and react / interact with posted videos, it feels like there is an underlying technology that could be solved here. because i like to download my videos using yt-dlp. then watch them locally on disk it should be possible to have a suscriptions grabber / auto downloader (already exists, they are called podgrab and podsync). to automatically detect the same channels when they appear on oysee. then and then know to wait for the video to be published on odysee if available then fall back to youtube if it never was uploaded within a certain number of hours. so kindda like a duplicate handling. but there are some more challenges. for example when i watch videos it is usually in kodi. but sometimes the video wont play in kodi and i have to play it in vlc. finally what if i want to open a browser to go and make a comment? well there needs to be some button or shortcut action / feature to invoke from the video player. which opens the embedded url from a metadata link stored within the video file, or next to it on disc as a seperate file like when we download image art or srt subtitles. then the podgrab or podman downloader software could put that link there. and the video player could let you open it when playing and watching the video. is there such a feature? well no, unfortunately not. and the feature needs to be designed well enough not to be a security risk, not to be abused. so in that future world i could start to use odysee allongside youtube. and would be happy to support multiple content dellivery platforms as a viewer. but until then there are just far too many essential educational and niche channels that are youtube only. and which i simply cannot miss. it would be far too messy and to much extra daily overhead to take on odysee without those necessary (but currently missing) software feature support. so i think it could make some sense for the odysee platform to sponsor those as bounties for open source developers. to add new features onto existing software. and provide some incentive for actually doing that. lower the friction of multi platform consumption. since it is simply impossible for me (as a viewer) to ditch youtube now. but it does seem like a solvable technology problem imho. and much more feasible than for other types of social networks like facebook etc.

Ill have to check out Odyssey. Have you ever noticed how these leftists seem to hate science?

You can really tell the traditional media are dying by how hard they disparage their competition!

YouTube promotes only far-left fascism, you dare say something against the establishment and you get banned

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christian Montagx says:

Reuters is one leader in information wars. Therefore they fear independent medias where they dont't have the power to control information as they do on youtube.

Clearly Dave, Anton and Scott are dangerous ideologues. Preaching all this Science and Technology can't be having any of that.😂

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave P says:

Oooffff recommending "Undecided" on the front page. That just bad information.

And that its curated, yikes, someone looked at that and thought it was a good idea to push. It uses literal anti science bait terms as the channel name. May as well just have called it "The Science Isn't Settled"

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Geordie Matthews says:

My landing page showed almost the same line-up of content as yours, Dave, so what you see isn't highly curated to your viewing habits and preferences. Go Odysee!

A lot of conspiracy theories have turned out to be true over the years.

Sounds like another major media company trying ot assert their importance and relevance as they are bleeding viewers.

Nice, the Bitchute frontpage made me immediately go "nope", close the tab and permanently ban the damn thing from my network.

I haven't seen any reason to hate Odysee, but I also haven't seen any reason to start using it, either.

It seems YouTube are deleting my comments because I mentioned the site beginning with B, then they wonder why people choose other platforms 🙄

This is what happens when you give these people one single mm on free speech. They won’t stop until you’re living in a dystopia where people are routinely jailed for crimes of thought, if that’s how you want to live then so be it but your won’t like my reaction to any tyranny you attempt to fore on my. I’m not going to your gulags, and I’m perfectly willing to fight so how about you just get a grip and leave people alone?

Thanks for your perspective on things Dave! I've been a long time follower of your channel here and I jumped over to Odyssey and added you as soon as you were on there. You have always been a strong supporter of Odysee and I think the platform is maturing at a fast pace. The key is steady quality and a lot of patience. It will take years for it to grow to something closer to YouTube, so I think its funny when people try to belittle Odysee as if even Youtube took years to get where it is with basically no competition.

Odysee is very well laid out and feels comfortable to navigate. Plus, they have added alot of must have features such a streaming, which is huge for a growing platform now. I know it wasn't part of the topic for this video, but I'd say a close option to Odysee right now is Rumble. I'm talking about from the stand point of a curated home page that shows a wide variety of content. I think it has the potential to stick around like Odysee long term. It just needs to keep growing the varied content. Odysee is a ahead in that respect, at least in some genres.

Finally, I think its funny to see people make such a big deal about content being present that some want to label as conspiracy or extreme this or that. It's as if they find it impossible to simply not watch content they aren't interested in. No, it must be removed from existence lol. As long as any platform allows you to curate your own page with filters, favorites, etc, then you as the user get to decide what content you watch. If seeing an Alex Jones thumbnail somewhere disturbs you so much, maybe online content sites aren't for you. Just don't click on it and it wont hurt you lol. Odysee allows for many voices to be heard, even if some of those might make some people uncomfortable. They have rules covering the worst kind of content, but they aren't going to censor 'controversial' content like YouTube. Odysee exists as a reaction to YouTube's poor choices.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Navenator says:

Everyone platform that doesn't censor all content deemed "right wing" is labelled conspiracy. Even though MSM has the integrity of a tabloid magazine. Why is the left now obsessed with censorship?

Personally, I have an account on Odysee for a couple of years but I do not know the last time I even logged on to the account. The people I follow on YouTube probably a lot of them do not even know what Odysee is.

They're mad because they can't push a political agenda using money.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dennis says:

Reuters have consistently been spouting bullshit for years about tech. It's very common to see a headline telling you your phone is tracking you and selling your data to China, and stuff like that. Reuters are no better than some nasty Nazi supporting paper like the Daily Mail.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars EEVblog says:

Forgot to mention that the Odysee Community Guidlines actually prohibit the hateful and racist content they are talking about.
