Today we drive the rotary shifter go cart on the street! This rotary go kart is powered by a 1975 Hercules W2000 motorcycle and is a complete monster for this small go kart frame! In order to get this thing all finished up we first needed to install a custom steering wheel and 3d printed badges. This kart is also rocking the 787b Renown livery of the 1991 Le Mans car. While it doesn't seem like much, it took us hours to get everything up to spec. After it was ready to go, we took it out to some abandoned roads and really let it get up to speed! While we were driving we unfortunately lost the clutch, we think that there was a metal ball in the clutch rod that got welded to the push rod itself. Hopefully we can find the parts we need to get this thing back on the road! Thanks for watching and be sure to stay tuned for some more ripping this thing!

The last day I saw this thing in an amazing library, we're so happy with how it looks so now all that's up to do is we've got a couple finishing touches like a new steering wheel and some badges and then we're gon na. Take it out and go Ripper: isn't it bowls of Jason outdone himself, again yeah? So we have all the color scheme down, but we did still have this red and black steering wheel so stitched up a new, oh yeah. We got a little bit of navy, blue and orange, and I think that matches the library really nicely - oh yeah, yeah green stitching should be good, Joe, is still in Canada for a study abroad. So he couldn't be here to show us these, but he was able to make these awesome Wankel mm badges that are straight off the Hercules, W mm motorcycle and we're gon na slap them on right.

Here. It's gon na look amazing, throw your mig welders away. Does it glue guns of the future, alright guys so we're here in Mexico? A lot of open road here? Not really anyone out here so we're super excited. We're gon na be able to shift this thing up through the gears we got.

Ta get some roller shots. It's kind of that weird sunshine and stormy, so hopefully we can beat out the rain how's that bro insane yeah. I mean it's hard to shift. I guess I'm thinking, I'm not slamming it back enough, but we did lose.

Our clutch feel like cable, came out of the little fork yeah right inside here, so I got to take that back off, but this thing's wild yeah, like I mean it, bottoms out a lot, but the handling is really good and, unlike anything, I've driven well, it Wouldn't be a rotary Drive if it didn't break down in some way, hopefully there's nothing, no underlying issues. It was just probably just getting jostled around a lot and cables. Probably just came loose, so let's see how it's going. Okay, so the clutch arm might be like frozen inwards or something let's see, do that's broken.

There are something in there. No, oh, isn't there clutch think it's broken yeah. I hope that arm isn't stripped out he's not like the parts that we need to buy cuz. Those don't exist.

Well, that's it! For this part of the drive good stuff. We got like four clips, this kind of sucked, but it was fun. I got a couple good shots. I didn't turn on the GoPro.

We had some ideas to get some rollers and stuff that didn't really work out. So sorry, for all the hype and stuff but stuff breaks, that's how it goes, build, break repeat right, so we're gon na get right back to the shop and we're gon na try to figure out what's wrong with that clutch. Hopefully, it's very repairable back at the garage and it's time to take this little inspection plate off and see what's wrong with this thing: okay, yeah, this come on, so you guys when we're engineers we're gon na make it so you can take it out without this Rocket yeah all right. I guess oh well I'll grab that back gun enough.

Let's do it yep now, hopefully that sprocket isn't pressed oh yeah, okay. So now this should come! Oh easy! Okay! Oh so it looks like there's just a cam that pushes this rod in, but you could actually be a okay. The end of the rod doesn't look happy. I could drill bit.
That's been spun in a Chuck kind of something like that. Okay, so we were looking at how this little arm right here is a pin going through it just showing on both sides, and then we see the same pin right there. So what we're thinking is that, if we just tap through this hole right, there should be able to get the pin out there and be able to pull this apart, cast a little bit of the punch cool work sweet so now, how does this come apart? So what did that? Do I have to take the arm off anyway? Might as well. We figured it out.

It actually just turns out that this bar just needed to be pulled out, and it was really hard to remove because, like that's a shred of the bar that came out of the basically this housing here, so basically we're gon na need a replacement bar. That's what we think is original length who knows how long it was stock, but well this ballpark it based on how tall that shed is and just stuff like that now what we need to do is I want to try to get this basically whole handle assembly Out to see, if there's some serious wear on that, so the main issue seemed like our push. Rod basically just got like super misshapen and stuff, so we've just seized in there in the up position. So what we're doing is we're just going to try to take everything apart and figure out how to deeper it the best we can because the problem is, you can't really get parts for this thing.

So there's that so, as you can see, this is kind of a little kamd thingy. It just slides right in this hole and it's just super gunked-up and disgusting pins back in we greased everything, everything's pretty smooth and here's the shaft, and then there we go yeah. So it really does not move that much barely any movement, but it does move, that's an improvement yeah. It sure could it be some gauge at all? No man I'd be a good idea.

Well, because that didn't work we're now gon na attack from the other side, and unfortunately that means we got to drain our oil. Try a good thing that we're doing this, this English city for a really long time doesn't look too bad, though, and freaking win guys. Yeah now we have to pull the engine out again stuff going on there. We go uncut meat, so does anything with the clutch look looks exactly the same.

So are you taking it apart? Okay, okay, so this end is very flat and not very worn at all. So this says good, so might it it looks like whatever you want. Take these oh yeah, all right. So this is top okay.

So we got good news and bad news and the good news is pretty much bad news. I'll start with the good news, we were able to take the basket off and we looked it down the hole and basically there's like a little hat that the shaft goes and rests on and it seems like a corner of it is bent in. So that's what kind of took away, however, much room that needed to be able to push in the clutch. The really bad news is that we're messing around trying to figure out how to adjust it out or stuff that could have happened, and I thought this little nut into the clutch basket like got tightened down from its spinning, and I was trying to take it off This shaft and I snapped it so that really blows the good news is.
This is on the very outside, so I might be able to weld this back on or I can just try to find something online, maybe get something machined, but this really sucks straight shot. All right so we're we determined this operates properly and this is operating properly, but the problem is somehow like something: these two shrunk they're, not bent whatsoever. These two just happen to get closer together and now it doesn't have enough. This push.

Rod isn't long enough to where it can disengage the clutch. So we need your guys's help if you guys can like, if you all find any like part numbers or diagrams or anything they'd, be super helpful. I'd hate to end the video on the cell, but we also have you guys that can really help us up and have helped us in the past. So we're really gon na take advantage of this.

The good news is, we did get to see this thing drive. I really don't want to like stretch this series out into a bunch of different build videos, but I mean stuff like this, I think is really interesting and I think it's just part of the journey of building something like this. So I hope you've enjoyed how far we've gone, but it's probably gon na be quite a few weeks. We're gon na go back to the turbo back to mini bike, builds for a little while, just because we've been posting only about this thing and we've kind of seen a drive down all that like we can move on, but don't worry, we aren't gon na come Back and try to figure this out and that's why we need your guys's help.

So thank you guys for watching. Thank you for sticking with us. If we got past the engine bill, we could definitely figure out this clutch push rod thing. So thanks for watching see you next time.

Awesome build! The 787 paint scheme is brilliant. Just one suggestion… flip your steering wheel. The flat bottom is to give you a little more leg clearance😊

clearly need a ball between the two bars. one is spinning fast the other is fixed so it need a "point contact" only a ball can give to minimize the friction.
without the ball the two bars heat a lot and start melt eachh other like it happens to you.
refabricate the bars with the good materials and put a ball that's use in motorcycles, you must find something close enough to fit well.

you get a nice piece of a motor here, don't garbage it for such small thing 🙂
    greetings from france !

Just throw in a small bearing ball between the two pushrods, and flame harden the pushrod ends!

I think you should mount a frontbrake and go to a kart-racetrack to bench that monster.

Old German engines are comparable to the Japanese same year. in general, however, there are always two push rods in the clutch basket shaft AND there is always a very short pin between them. this is then about 10 mm long. Just test it. Only with maximum lever travel, and if this leads to slipping of the clutch, just continue cutting

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patricio Garcia says:

No springs in the clutch basket? Can probably use a dry clutch from a Montessa, Ktm, puch, or check karting sites. Probably something can be adapted there.

Would it be possible if you could make a video on how to make a super simple go kart for $200?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kurt Young says:

Add one ball bearing to each end of the rod. That's the way Japan does it.

Hey build break repeat look into the recluse clutch its retains the clutch but gets rid of the clutch pedal cable it automatically engages the clutch and might be easier then trying to fix this issue due to lack of parts

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars matthias guemboura says:

you need to find a ball from a bearing and add it between the cam of the lever and the push rod the ball should be the same diameter as the push rod. most clutches on motorcycles work this way. that tiny peice of metal pas propobly a ball 15 years ago

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Luehmann says:

Hell yes. Perfect livery for this project.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Build Break Repeat says:

Huge bummer on the clutch…we were planning on this being a crazy ripping vid but that’s just how this stuff goes can’t complain too much. Anyways, we are going to be getting back to the turbo build in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that!

As far as clutch troubleshooting goes we found that the clutch mechanism is shared with some KTM bikes, in particular the 76 Penton 400. I couldn’t find an exact diagram but I found on a forum that those used a ball between the two rods. Let us know if you think ours had one!
