Hi, it's rant time again. I I've got a vent about this. I'm just sick of it. Absolutely sick of it.

It's complete. Um, and as you know, I've got the Eevee log store. Um, I'm actually in the process of setting up a new store and moving away from woocommerce I'm moving over to Shopify and oh geez, don't get me started on Shopify anyway. um, it doesn't do DHL integration.

probably it's an EV block Forum Fred I started on that. So I could vent and rant about letting Shopify problems anyway. Um, that'll be coming soon, but you can already. You can currently, uh, order something from the EV blog store.

Thank you very much. It can. What keeps me, um, in business pretty much because YouTube doesn't really pay the bills. So yeah, I have to supplement that with the EV blog store.

You buy one of my nice uh meters and you can or you know, I've even got micro sleeves. Buy one of my my uh, nice uh products and it helps keep the blog alive. thank you very much. A lot of people do it.

I'm practically shipping stuff every single day, so it's a large part of my income. So yeah, because YouTube is just no. not even after what 13 years full time at this YouTube and still doesn't. still doesn't do it.

It wouldn't make Mrs evely blog happy Anyway, rant time DHL I've been using DHL for I don't know a long time now. Six, five, six years at least or something like that. Used to use Australia post a lot for my International uh shipments and that. became Troublesome and and stuff then I started to use DHL E-commerce actually which is where it's sort of like a quasi surface where they would sometimes use their own planes but then they would like hand it over to the local postage system in each country and and the tracking to get lost but it was cheaper you know and then the express service that I use now.

but um, they did. Actually when I started they gave me like really good rates on the express and DHL Express door-to-door Courier Service and it's excellent right? Um, but you know you pay a bit more for that and I've for quite a number of years now I've watched the prices go up and up and up and in terms of what we'll get to at the moment, and um, I've been absorbing a lot of the cost of this, I've been making a loss on the uh shipping so to speak and I'm just I'm just Jack of this Anyway, let me show you what I'm complaining about now, right? I I actually get decent shipping rates from DHL I Go! I'm one of the apparently I'm one of their bigger customers in Australia because I ship a lot of stuff every single day I'm shipping stuff right. Some days I can ship you know 10 plus you know double digit meters like per day. it's like sometimes it's a lot right? and um, not only like I get good contract rates but on top of that, right? They add this fuel surcharge thing and as you can see here right, it's been creeping up and this dynamically changes right based on the you know, the current fuel price.

So each each order right, so each on my on top of my contract price right? Currently September 2023 I've got to add almost 27 on top, right just for the fuel surcharge. But here's the thing that gets me right. when Covert came around in 2020, you remember that and all hell broke loose and all the airports stopped and everyone was like nobody you know and mass came. you know.
Mass Hysteria. Dogs and cats living together. Everything right and with social distance in dogs and cats. And right? So DHL introduced as did I'm sure all the other services right? An emergency surcharge, right? An emergency situation surcharge.

They called it okay and and fair enough. right? The airports were shut down into like it was just hard getting planes in and out and it was perfectly fine at the time, right? And it was a temporary charge that they would. uh I Remember they I've got emails dating back to April 2020 is when that was. It might have even been slightly before that, but it was definitely April 2020 as when I was paying this emergency situation surcharge temporarily and they're still doing it.

Why? Why? And they've removed. They've now removed all mention of covert Right is to cover operating costs increases due to an emergency out of Dhl's control. This includes but is not limited to changes in market dynamics and air capacity availability. They don't Then it started out.

it was all about covert. That's all it was about. right? And covert's gone and dust it right? There's no there's no emergency anymore. it's done.

But they keep the emergency surcharge in because nobody complains well here. I am complaining because this is we will continue to evaluate Injustice surcharges. Market conditions evolve for the duration of the emergency situation. Which they mean covert right? Name a country where there's a covert restrictions for shipping stuff anymore doesn't exist, right? It will be adjusted to reflect Market Dynamics operation restrictions.

Um, continue to evolve with the ongoing situation, right? It's got nothing to do with what's happening in Ukraine or anything like that, right? This? This is a covered thing. Okay, although I'm sure if you tried to ship to Ukraine or Russia, there might be some sort of, you know, issues there. Anyway, it's so this is all about covert, right? And now they've just simply removed that. you know, Because oh, there's just a general emergency somewhere, right? Was it climate emergency? Is that the problem now? Unbelievable.

Anyway, don't get me started. Um, right. So here it is. Now here's one of my gripes right now.

First gripe is that they're still charging this right more than three three. and a half years later, they're still charging this even though no emergency situation exists. But the thing that really gets me is that the country of origin right. which is where I ship from right? So if you ship from Australia or New Zealand look at this right.
an extra charge in Australian dollars per kilogram? Okay, look. oh sorry I can't highlight a column but you can see it right. Australia and New Zealand are the hardest hit as a country of origin. So if we if I ship out of Australia or somebody ships out of New Zealand then we get hit the hardest ship.

It doesn't matter where it ships in the world, right? It's an extra almost four bucks. three to four dollars per uh uh package. right? Which you know you might guess it's not a lot. Well, yeah it is.

It adds up when you add on the fuel surcharge and then the contract rates for the express and everything else. right? It adds up to a lot. A huge amount. Um, and I've got to absorb this cost because if I Char if I pass this charge on to uh, the customer.

you guys, then you just wouldn't order from me because the shipping would be too expensive, right? So anyway, I might have to look into local distribute having distribution hubs in different countries and stuff like that. Um, not a drop shipping I would still control it all. but like I need you know I might have might need to go to local Distribution Hub special in the US Canada for example which a good lot of my sales uh go to? But yeah, look across the board no matter where I ship it in the world, it's the highest rates. look at.

The only other country that comes close is America here at at the same rate, right? But that's only if you're in America and you're using DHL to ship to China or Hong Otherwise it's a buck. 90 50 cents, 30 cents right? and right? Okay, but yeah, Australia just gets absolutely hammered right? Absolutely. Hammond What does this say down here? Please note the ESS is a temporary charge temporary three and a half years later, which allows us to cover part of Opera in increasing air. Network adjustments in the operating cost increases and and the necessary air Network Adjust what air Network adjustments is right? Yeah, it existed in April 2020.

when it was uh, cats and dogs living together. Absolute chaos will continue to evaluating just the ESS Market conditions evolve. They never. They've never dropped it.

It's never changed. It's never evolved in the three and a half years since. covert. It's absolute okay.

Latest, what's what's later so we will continue. Latest Local Government restrictions Transit Time impacts Uh View: Temporary Service Adjustments is impacted countries all right. It's like it's all just bloody waffle Right View Temporary Charges Covid-19 See, it is covert 19. Temporary Service Adjustments for DHL Express Time difference Please note as the situation is dynamic and subject to change without notice, right? And there's talk about some coming back as well, right? So like, But come on.

This is ridiculous. Maintaining several delivery services Well I Said worldwide temporary service numbers indicate additional transit times in days. So it's just like that's okay, there's some additional times or whatever. But like this is like, come on, this is not a thing anymore.
This is Not a thing. How is this a thing? It is not a thing, right? And why is Australia and New Zealand hit across the board worse? Okay, if if you want to charge more for shipping from Australia will you build that into the contract rates? You don't put it in the emergency surcharge for covert. It's absolute and I'm sick of it. So yeah.

anyway, rant over thoughts and comments down below. Am I The only one who's complaining about this. Bloody hell. It's ridiculous.

Catch you next time.

I shipped something with DHL and 3 weeks later they billed me $0.15 for "DHL Emergency Situation Fee". The original shipment was $63.00 so, yeah, who cares about 15 cents but what an accounting headache for me. Why not just charge me $63.15 from the get go? DHL service is otherwise good service but this kind of B.S. means I will avoid using DHL in the future.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rickbearcat says:

Why don't you ship all your stock to a country that is not affected by this problem (as much) and have them (a trusted company or person) ship out your orders for you? Would this be a less expensive solution for you?

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars al klapaxida says:

DHL head office has decided that the board of directors requires brand new "celestial phantoms" statt and the sales rep from bombardier is hanging around to ,,,, so don't expect prices to go down anytime soon or ever ! ! !

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Storm says:

Might just be me, but I’m reading that column as the destination. It looks more like you pick a row for origin, and if that’s the case then shipping to Australia is the real problem. Either way, the emergency charges are absurd at this point.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DjLorenz says:

Have you seen the bullshit stuff they do when shipping items? A dude put some AirTags in DHL packages and found out that they just do super sketchy behavior and zero customer friendliness. They are just BS and they should just go bankrupt for good!

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steffen Dahlberg says:

Hm yes this free market thing is really keeping the prices down with competition, isn't it.
Sadly the postal service isn't nationalized in Norway any more, but at least a share majority is state owned. So the price is under some political control which keeps them from getting greedy

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Technoman says:

This reminds me of Holly from Red Dwarf when he had an 'emergency' announcement. Completely deadpan: "Emergency. Emergency. There’s an emergency going on. It’s still going on. It’s still an emergency."

My experience with parcel delivery companies (and I've tried all that are available here in Germany and deliver to end consumers): You can put them ALL in a big bag, tie it up, and keep hitting it with a giant stick until the end of time. And you'll always hit the correct one.
Just today, I tried to register for the DHL developer portal, and they rejected every single password I tried for not conforming to the rules. Even though they all complied with the rules (quadruple checked). Maybe there's some double-secret special rules that they only tell you about if you know the secret handshake or something…

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike S says:

Sue them. There is no emergency. Sue them.

    Greedflation.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vincent Bruinink says:

They won`t give up this extra income. Soon they will give it a new name. Something like carbon footprint tax. It is ALL a SCAM!

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MrGuano11 says:

You have to blame rising taxes on energy and fuel too not just alleged corporate greed. Because paying more money will save the planet!

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg says:

Up here in Canada, DHL has historically been decent, but the last few years, they seem to charge me COD charges for everything I get from them. Sadly their service seems to be suffering as well. I always cringe now whenever I see something is being shipped via DHL since I know it's going to be such a hassle.
I feel for you, not a lot of options for you to utilize as an alternative.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars FieryBull says:

There just isn't enough competition in the shipping business.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vega says:

Interesting Dhl is my favorite international courier

Except for that one time they charge me 2,000 additional because the package was mislabeled

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Smol Mochi says:

and the recipient also still has to pay for the import fee/brokerage fee week later after receiving the item.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin Martin says:

That's not $3-4 per parcel, that's per kilogram!

Also, I can't for the life of me really tell in that table whether it is the rows or the columns that are for a particular origin region.

I would read the corner cell "Country of Origin" as being the header for the first column, so each row is for a particular origin and each column is for a particular destination, the opposite of how you're reading it. The thing that is placed like an overall chart title but is worded like a column or row header is the "row header" for the headers.

Either way AU/NZ is pretty expensive. Not only that but the origin and destination classifications are different so it looks like domestic AU and NZ shipping is "other Asia <-> AU/NZ"!

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Galileo RS says:

No more overflights over Russia for western airlines?

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Hull says:

Not that any international shipping company is worth their weight…but DHL – is the WORST EVER. I have previously (and will continue to) not purchase items from international retailers BECAUSE they use DHL! DHL is terrible and NO ONE should consider using this useless POS company for anything!

Do a climate 'crisis' video next. Curious to hear your thoughts!

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dynorat12 once says:

well once you give them more money, they don't want you to stop

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars xjet says:

I totally gave up all plans to export anything from New Zealand because of the outrageous cost of shipping and even postage. Anything other than a letter needs to be sent with track & trace these days and since the postal system deleted the concept of "registered airmail" and replaced it with "international courier" then I can't really send anything outside this country for less than about $60 and even a small package is likely to cost $100+ to ship. This totally kills the "cottage industry" exporting concept 😞
