Rotary Shifter Go Kart build starts now!
In this video we show you guys our ultra rare 1975 KC27 rotary motor found in the Hercules W2000 Motorcycle. This is a 5 speed 294cc rotary motor with close to 30 bhp. In order to get it running, we had to completely disassemble the motor and take apart the entire rotor assembly to rebuild the rotary motor. In this video we began making the frame from a retired kadet cart racing frame. This Italian racing go kart has a ton of potential and is going to be incredible with a running rotary shifter on there! In order to get the engine and us to fit, we lengthened the frame and widened it by 6 inches, as well as added a side support bar to hold the engine in the correct position. After that we looked at seat and steering positioning and find out how everything is going to work together!

Finally, here the moment, you've all been waiting for super excited for this. Very I'm a lot into this project and we haven't even really started. So what are we doing in this one yeah? So in this video we got our Italian racing, cart frame and we'll slap on and mock up the rotary and we'll mount the seat yeah. So it is a cadet cart, so this thing has really small dimensions, so we're gon na make a wider and longer.
But that's no big deal. We've got a lot of work to do. Let's get right stars. One thing we notice was that these things have really been scraping the ground.
We got the little allen heads full of asphalt, but here's one that we just got out. So it is possibly gon na work, so we are going to disassemble the spraying, the rest of the way and then we will get to metalwork. Oh, I don't loose. Oh yeah, well, who's gon na tighten it when it's got.
You know nothing left! Yeah! Your street block on it forgot to mention totally check out our rotary shirts. They are super sick. I mean nothing really fits a rotary mindset better than building complete, so I'm just finishing taking off the floor pan all that pickle, a nice aluminum we do want to reuse it yeah. Look at that.
Yes, man, these bearing hangars, are so sweet. But with this we are totally done. We have a bare frame, and now we can do is you can put it on the ground and kind of figure out where we want to sit kind of halfway mocked up the rotary versus our cart, and I mean this frame is totally this one. Today we may have a really basically bigger than this then yeah, it's kind of like, like it's probably like a bad big, so we're gon na need people a lot of stretching and a lot of widening because boy and that's how you run a really expensive frame.
It's probably the last project can use the old pipe and harbor freight vendor on, because you got a tubing bender from Pro Tools coming all the way. So, but what we're doing now is we're gon na bend. This is at the biggest angle. We can cut it in half and then we're going to use these blocks right here and make the 290s go straight down and then we're gon na Center.
The rotary on this right here and then that will give us idea of how far we need to what. Why and the frames deal the sitting it comfortably let this mocked up with the frame widens a little bit. It looks really good yeah, so I'm first we're just gon na widen the frame, make sure we have enough room for us to sit next to the hinge and comfortably and we're not too close, and then after we have it widened to the to a good amount. Then we'll lengthen it move the engine a little bit back and make sure we have clearance for the sprocket, in fact, okay, so we're making our frame extensions, it's just some plug welds, so we're putting we're cutting a small piece of metal that will fit inside each Of the pieces of pipe and then we can weld them up through these holes that way we're going to be able to grind down these welds, and you won't be able to tell if there's a piece of metal in here to lengthen the front. So a lot of drilling a lot of welding, but soon our two pieces of framing will become one again. The frame it was actually quite quite beautiful, but with pieces of the frame just like snap together, almost so now. What we're doing is the plugs are in and they're welded on this side, and the this side is completely welded all the way throughout. So now we're going to do is we're going to take some measurements and tack in and out until it's square.
The good news is the plugs fit super tightly, so that means we can just basically hammer it in and out and it's pretty dang square yeah. Okay, here's our Frank! Oh, let's get the cutting out our plugs and then we can slowly finish the dimensions of this thing here we are sitting right next to this, huge engine feels really cool. We are going to be running three pedals, as opposed to like a hand clutch or a clutch on the shifter lever. We are gon na, have a shifter lever about here and steering wheel, it'll be pretty quick transition, but this is gon na, be a clutch pedal right here and then gas, and because we widen this range so much it's going to be pretty easy to fit a Brake pedal we're just going to bend it in the same dimensions as a stock, one that's on there.
So with that being said, we're talking on length in the frame now and we widened it six inches. So, ideally, we would want to want to lengthen it six inches as well. That way we keep the stock cemetry. So that's what we're gon na do right now.
I haven't laid out at six inches longer from that back section where I cut out, and it looks just about perfect. So what we're gon na do is we're going to cut out some six inch sections again and some plugs weld it all up, and then we can start working on seat mounts and the engine mounts. Oh wattage really wan na cutting and stuff foot down. But now we're gon na see how good our measurements are.
So this, hopefully, is to sign in nice sweet it's cool, they just kind of snap together, so we are looking good. I think I'm just gon na do what we did before check to see how square we are, and then we can weld this out and start working on mounting the engine all right. It's got a fab DUP this little bracket right up here you got a bolt that fits right through it and then what we're gon na do is. I just have a piece: 3/4 pipe will weld that right in the middle here, and then we, this is actually gon na, be on the bottom.
We're only gon na use the bottom amount and then the two front holes, and that should be plenty to hold this thing. Solid, hey guys, pardon the interruption, but I want to give a quick shout out to our Instagram build up break dot repeat if you kind of want some quick stuff ahead of time just before things are uploaded. Sometimes we post even like a month before uploading and then I'm launching my own personal Instagram, it's gon na I'm gon na put it right here and it's gon na be basically only car and YouTube stuff. So, if you're into my Jeep and stuff, like that, it's kind of another behind the scenes platform, so it's right here definitely check it out. Let's go back to work. I've been tough and added in this sidebar right here. This is gon na act, not only as a mounting point, but also a kind of bash bar such way to protect the pension from this side. So now what we're gon na do is one of the bars is going to weld in right here and the other bar is going to weld in right here and then I got a and then the last time on the back.
It's going to go on right here, so what I need to do is the front bars, are gon na stay at this length and just get welded directly, but I need a short in the back bar to where you get the inches perfectly level. Okay, guys, after a lot of back and forth, that's about as low as we're gon na get this sucker. Now we are finally ready to weld this thing into place. I think we are.
This is where I want it to sit. You can see. We have this bar right up here to kind of protect the engine, and the engine has about half inch of ground clearance. I still need to make this side bar, but I'm gon na wait till like the wheels are on it and stuff he or she is so nice.
Well, it's right up around here. There you see, there's our other mount right up in there see yeah pretty good, and this thing this engine is super solid. You could suspend the whole frame by the engine and I think the engine is actually going to provide some stability. One thing we may want to do is add some kind of reinforcement, because a lot of the weight is off to this side here.
But I mean, although, like most of the weight of the engine, is don't getting supported by this one bar and this bar kind of balance out a little bit love to see how that goes. But so we all might be worried about how the like center of gravity of this carts gon na be kind of messed up, because we got this behemoth over here. But what we're gon na try to do to fix that a little bit. Is this weld right? There is about the centerline of the cart, so, as you can see, if we chop this like right here, most of our body weight is going to be slightly off-center so because we're much heavier than the cart our weight being a little bit off-center should help counteract The weight of the engine being so far over because we're so much heavier than the engine, but I think said: let's get a little montage and wrap this video up and it's a makes pretty good armrest but anyways.

So is this thing going to be called the little Dorito
To keep the symmetry you need to consider the ratio of length to width. If the cart was 1 foot wide by 2 feet long adding 6" of width you would need to add 12" of length. That way the cart is 1.5' by 3' or 1.5/3 or reduced 1/2.
The cnc I run at work is made by a Italian company named biesse I wonder if it's the same biesse that makes that kart. Let me know if u have any info.

Should've lengthened the cart more. Its a ratio so adding 6 inches to both dimensions throws it off, but its not that big of a deal
I think the side bar is going to be in the way of the tire when turned left. Hard to tell from the video but it looks too close.
I checked what engine they are running and its specs say 5,9L per 100km 😀 Not bad for a rotary. Even a Kart engine 🙂
Have tou guys thought about trying to upgrade engine cooling? Even trying to run it on e85 with premix castor oil would help with temps.
You would want to try find a 'downdraft' carburetor for that engine–similar used on sportbikes in the 1980's to 1990's. You extract more power in the process; a straighter intake shot for the fuel flow is great.
Do a race between a 2 stroke and your rotary kart, 2 rev happy engines racing against eachother would be bad ass

Make some rubber mounts for it since its aluminium hard mounts might crack the engine case
