Just some soldering

I am now a live streaming apparently. Hello McFly Let me see if that's actually the case and if anyone's gonna turn up with absolutely no announcement. Oh I need to be no, it's not gonna show up here, Is it no? Shut up Dave Jones from the Eevee look alright I don't know how to operate these slow you tube you know I view it I know there's people watching. Come on, at least one person's gonna show up.

but I cannot see it on my webpage. Bear with me. she's made a live thing. Hi I'm Dave Jones if I blow he's now live there we go.

Information takes time, takes time to pop up there. we go 146 watch him. Wow Stop there we go. Did it recording stop? Yeah Yep.

didn't sink. Excellent. Alright how is the how is the audio? It's gonna be cuz I'm in the the Unn. I'm in the soldering room which is not acoustically treated at the moment.

hasn't been fixed after after the flood. So why this board again? I'll tell you in a minute I Will tell you top chats, live chat, what do you is okay, Sounds alright, alright, cool. I'll stick to that. It works good I Wouldn't say it's good.

Alright alright. no worries. Check. Check.

Whack foam everywhere. No workers, you watch it all go down now. so we're gonna go down cuz I've decided to whack some foam there. Here we go.

that'll be even I didn't be even better. All right, video is not loading well sorry lecture Mooloolaba that's got to be your end because nobody else is complaining so YouTube varies a lot depending on where you are. Why am I solder and yet another gigatron board? Well, good question because if you followed my gigatron videos and a world they eat like the Emc videos I said that I would do, here's the other one: I did a I did the original two layer board that camera Dave professional video blogger I did the original two layer board and then I did this for lay aboard with the signals traces top and bottom and I said it would be really interesting if I completed that and actually got aboard with ground fill top and bottom. Um, so that's what I did I've actually had these boards for ages I've never gotten around to actually doing I think I did a second channel video where I flipped where I showed you laying out this board and I flipped the you know I flipped the layers or whatnot I'm sure I did a second channel video on that or some way did it somewhere anyway.

I've had a real dog of a time trying to get this system back up and running because it's all been all the labs being moved since the flood and they replace the glassine here just a couple of weeks back and nothing's back up and running. and I trying to get these stupid webcams wet like I've got like probably one of the best webcams available until I Going through a C92 here I've got a seen? No, yeah, this is a C920 but doesn't matter. None of these stupid things focus properly on the board at like a board distance like 30 40 centimeters away. Absolutely useless.

So I had to get out my Hf Canon Hf M 300. is it HFM 300 which I use as my face camera on my talking head camera on my main computer which is behind the wall there which is in the cubicle that I do all my you know screen recording shots from. So I got that and my a VI O 4k etherion video capture card that can plug that in. That's the only thing that bloody well works anyway.
I Had there's issues with the Takano microscope. There's something wrong with the USB connection on it. It's not reliable anymore so to do USB streaming through there, it's unreliable I probably could have used the Takano for this, but then you get huge barrel distortion on the board. if you're at board scale, the Takano is great for zooming in, but it's useless for zooming out like that.

Probably need a different magnifying like a 5 x lens on it instead of the 10 10 times. So anyway, if you want to know that's the lens on the to God Oh there it is. It's a kink. Oh it's a kink.

Oh and it's actually at times 52 millimeter thread. I've got other 52 millimeters thread ones but they're times tennis. Well I think anyway I believe this is a number four I believe it is actually eight times ten lens so you can't operate it without the lens but it doesn't zoom well at all. I think it's designed to actually have some sort of lens on there, so maybe I give the times five and that'll be less barrel distortion.

Anyway, yeah yeah like and I just had to disconnect the light from up here cuz I was getting reflections off here. It was like it was all huge big strip down here. so the light in here is not great. everything's just else it really is I need let it take me like a like days to set up this thing properly.

- Jeff Jeff just a stream soldiering. Really, it's a real pain anyway. remind me it's now three o'clock Remind me yeah yeah it's three o'clock I've got to be going to stop at force of an hour so let's go. So anyway, yeah so this board I won't get it finished so be too busy yapping.

so I'm gonna assemble this and I can't have my fan going here because it'll be too loud. just swap the audio so like there's tons of stuff that goes into actually get in I've got my few I've got my own a room air purifier thing going here so that'll at least keep the room okay. but anyway, what do we got I should just get out a whole bunch of chippies I Guess that's the idea. Do all the chippies first.

They're very satisfying. What's that cheese soon? 4-h C-13 I think it's a 1, 3 9. It's not enough lies and seriously, it's not enough light in here. Yeah 1 3 9.

The silkscreen on some of these chips is just awful. so we'll start with that. So let's go. So if anyone has any questions, we can do that a soft-spoken voice No, not possible.

Hi Mike it's not Mike Harrison Is it deaf pawns here? Finnick Tech: Lots of recognizable names? Yeah, firstworldproblems. Yeah. I know. Anyway, so pop out the chat.
it's gonna be bigger. It's gonna end up spend it on my time around 435. Well really haven't replaced a cartridge on my GBC station yet. Oh sorry.

yes yes yes I did. Yeah yeah I just did. sorry Jake see I thought you been I'm using the Pace 80s 200 Anyway, what did I say this was a 1 3 Seriously? I can't see that it that silkscreen is terrible on that I said 139. it is a 139.

Maybe I should leave this light on - yeah, there we go. I've actually got a right mind that I've got a em er in light I've got a couple of those. They're really quite cool anyway. so oh yeah, doesn't create a bit of shadow coming from that.

Yeah, all right there we go. That's better. it's less shadow 1 3 9 Bueller Bueller 1 3 9 one two one three eight one three eight five, oh five. All right.

I'm not seeing it I'm not saying it. there. It is. there.

it is. we know we're not. It's the bus access decoder good, then the right one. Oh I don't have it in the right way I was gone by the dot.

Oh, there's a trophy young players there. we go. All right? Sure I have like should I like zoom in or something I don't know. Whatever.

All right, let's go. Small tip: Don't know if this tip was the best choice. It seems a bit hopeless. Yeah, not happy.

say I never have one set up. Okay, that's pretty bad. that's that sold is terrible. Yes.

I'm gonna blame the soda that's actually horrendous. Let me let me use my finger thinner stuff. which is that by the way, for those playing along at home. Multicore 0.38 Gilding the Lily I might go to my um, yeah, that's a tiny tip.

my gaiter. My bigger tip is that hey there we go that feeds better than the big stuff. Still not the best. the temperature up a bit.

There we go. Yeah, cooking with gas all right. now. that was real slow for my first one.

Okay, we got two chips left I ordered like three. Lots of everything so I should so I should there was only one of those. so I should be using three of these. Yes, ordering like Louis today.

my doing doing that bad. That's all. this is all right. Anyway, what do we got? Two Eight three? Yeah, there you go.

So it's straight away. I knew when that was two Eight three. that's part of the accumulator. Sorry for those who can't see me bend in the pins.

Sure, there's people who pay you good money to watch people bend the pins. could be a fetish thing. Alright, get another way big shoulder there's you gotta flip your boards around like that because you want to be flat on the pin. I you want the wedge of your tip to be on the thick part of the pin, not the thin side edge I Think I need somewhere in the middle solder wires I'm actually gonna get right because in lead-free I've only got point nine.

Yeah, I've only got point nine and 0.38 so that's not. It's not a great choice. like we're gonna write home to my mom about those choices. So I do have to feed a fair bit into there.
if you really want to be productive at soldiering. It's important to optimize everything. You can't Just rock up higgledy-piggledy and pick any iron and any tip and any solder and expect to be your most efficient. It's just not gonna happen.

So do you clean inside of a soul? How do you clean inside of a solder sucker? They're pretty self-cleaning I Think you can take the end of him? Oh Inside Are you talking about the talking about the old hand pump ones or the or the newfangled pump one? The newfangled, you know, electric pump ones cuz they're designed to come apart like the Hakko type electronic pump ones. They've got like a glass capture thing with like steel wool in there that captures the captures assaulting. Take apart the module and you're clean or you're you. replace that and I really need a good low noise fan solution here.

If it's just to blow the solder away so that then then my room purifier can take care of business. Send some. Holly Express Once someone posts on the Eevblog forum, there's like a cheese and weigh off. Today it's not enough.

not enough light. needy another studio light. Ah okay so you guys I want to see it? Yeah, we can't do that. No, that's as best as my Canon cameras gonna do.

All right. sorry of me. look at the chat. Has anyone seen Dave mentioned Mickey I know I Mentioned that caliph in times anyway I got three.

what do we got here? So that'll be all three. Oh got a bed pin pin pin out of the tube. Ah what loser? Yeah. I don't think it's nice work? No.

I think it like you know you haven't sold it for a bit. Takes you a few a few joints to get back into the swing of things. It's a pretty piss poor effort today cuz once again, every time I go to sold or something I have a tip. Oh yeah, that's that's bright isn't I have a different set up.

you know cuz I'm always moving stuff around the lab like this is like a this is not. This is not your average lab where everything just stays in place and everything's set up so it should be gonna have to make that. 377. Mr..

377 Go 377. There's three of them though I 273 77377 All right, it was definitely 377. Yep, it's part of the accumulator. What's the best soldiering iron for commercial regular loot use.

How long as a piece of string? It depends on what you're doing. It depends on what you're doing. 377 Oh thank you very much. Luke I Read you comment in the set.

Yeah for did you say you for production use because production is very different. Commercial versus personal are two very different things. Yeah, and it's not any commercial but also production use as well. If you're soldering in production, you don't want a temperature-controlled iron or if you do you want one, that's you know you can lock it out.

The operators you want, the operators that don't don't be fiddling around with the temperature, you want to set it up and and keep it that way. Ah three, seven seven this you're on so you can get you can, some of it you know overheat goes and others some of them have like a little card you can plug in and you can. you know it's like a authorization card and you can change the temperature and then you lock them out. you know or you just use like a fixed temperature.
I am like a Met cow or soldering is a variability problem. Anytime you're very stuff you're gonna come a guts up. You want you know? I can't Yeah like a good soldier I can solder with almost anything as long as they used to it and then there they get the hang of it. It should be able to use pretty much anything they got.

but as I said you will be more productive with and there's not one tip to rule them all. Like for C&C for something like this you don't want a small tip. you want a little bit chisel but you know what the chisel be too big that the soda masks. the thickness of the solder mask actually prevents the the tip.

the wedge tip actually coming in contact with the pad so it's like yeah yeah it's a real it's a real trade-off thing and some people go like that. doesn't matter, they stood the temperature. they don't care about contacting the pad, let's turn the temperature up and let that flux and and gravity do its work. Yeah come on.

this is pretty poor today. See if we can get in the swing of things. Maybe I should try a bigger tip. How about a change this baby over and see if that makes a difference? I'm just way off today in terms of accurate application of this order.

Yeah, I'm not too happy with that. So yeah, I'll try bigger tip if you're wondering with this thing's for, it's a tip grabar so that you can actually grab your tips. live like that and there's a big one There we go. But little pro Tip: Don't leave this hanging off the middle of the court like this because it gives extra weight to the cord and you can come a gut.

So that's why it's got this little keyhole up here. See that that will then slip over the other end of your iron on the station? No, no, I'm not gonna get done in 45 minutes. All right. So no, where's where's my other chicken? Can't see the pins because they're yeah, they're practically invisible.

There we go. Try that baby. All right. So this is the bigger tip.

but as I said because of the solder mask. but you see how much quicker I am because there is less accuracy requirement on my hand like my feeding end of the solder. So where is the smaller tip? Whenever there's a bit how you doing it's not my solder on the it's plenty though. So yeah, see how much quicker I am bit.

But a tip like this you may not actually be getting depends on the thickness of your solder mask may not actually beginning proper contact with the pad down there. and oh okay, here we go. All right. Me a straight soda like that.
Let's go Pullback problem there: G is not my solder on there, but it's good enough for Australia you say? yeah? I probably made like half a millimeter solder here because I'm feeding it in too quick. like it like it actually it's a head. it's a trade off right? I've got a I've got a be reasonably close that I can get accuracy I can't hold it all the way back here like this because then I'm look look, it's just jiggling around right? And that's not because my hands not steady, that's just because of the of the long lever on that right? So you can't accurately feed that in. You've got to be closer like that.

So then you can feed it in and but then it feeds too quick and then you're always changing. like that. it you know and and it and it actually matters when you're paying someone per joint to actually do that. So yeah, what brand and model soldering iron is this? The Pace? 80s 200 Ah, Gifted gifted fill out but I didn't bend the pins I was just relying on it sitting down like that.

and I tip the board coming out sir. All right here we go. It's actually that cord on that. It's a little bit annoying.

It's there's a bit of a rotational component in that you have a dag Virginia one soldered egg. It wasn't much consistency on those joints there. It's terrible. Muriel Terrible.

I Do prefer thinner solder to thicker because you can control precisely the amount of solar that goes on the joint. dagi. Oh, that one there. not my solder on that.

Anyway, yeah, no that's not. That's pretty terrible job. Not happy with that. It's alright.

It's fine. If you want to be gonna be a soldier and perfectionist. that's not great anyway, right? Um, by the way, guess where I'm going and guess who I'm meeting tonight. that's a dark alley in the city.

Did anyone come on? This one has six chips so you know I'm gonna ask me no I didn't get it Isla I didn't get a Tesla it was a troll. I'm gonna spend a hundred thousand hundred thousand dollars on a Tesla or without the one I Took a photo I Was just walking out of the gym just walking out of the gym and they're parked next to my bike. Ride my bike to the gym. It was this: McFly one numberplate Tesla But what was it? It was one of those X ones.

Wasn't it one of the station wagon? You ones? whatever in the station wagon, you know what? I mean 1:6 That's a 161? What? HC Seriously, these numbers suck. Some of these silk screens. that's a one. Six one one Six one one Six One One Six One One Six One four? Yeah.

I've got I've got to use all of yeah, there's tons. All right. Yep, this is good. Long lost twin Paulrobinson whose Paulrobinson don't know Paulrobinson is I am seriously looking at a leaf though.

A secondhand leaf there I Company I Found some companies around here to actually import them straight from Japan so it's a thing it could actually happen I was one I was really interested in it. turns out it had already gone. So yeah, I'm actually close to getting the secondhand leaf, so stay tuned. Mmm.
poor poor Daniel's art. No, no, no, no, they didn't kill the leaf. Anyway, you are meeting tonight is met before Hungarian is in Sydney at the moment. Um, former.

You beam For me, you beam. Ok, quite a few why you beam hangouts and they have many stories to tell. Let me tell you former one of the former heads at You Beam because Meredith Perry just got the ass. Well, she left the board.

She's now no longer. Well, she holds probably the most stock in the company, but she is no longer actively involved because she's not on the board then. Well, you don't get any saying in you really since the board and make all the decisions. But yeah, I expect you've been to fold shortly.

anyway. Anyway, there's a couple of former You Beam staff that are working on a interesting startup and it has an Australian connection. and that's why they're here in Sydney regularly and I meet up with them. So oh yes, stories that have been told.

anyway. if anyone can guess the name I'm not gonna verify who I'm not gonna confirm who. What is you beam? Oh goodness you must be new here. Oh my goodness you be Miss There funniest thing ever.

Go to my Twitter feed see my 1,000th video or video was at Thousand and One. It was actually in my thousandth video. It was do I tell the story of the thousandth video when hear it when I hear the story of Eevblog number 1000. First time checking the livestream.

Yeah, that's pretty boring. What is this contraption? I'm sure someone will fill you in pigs smashing into your head. Oh I do have various PCB assembly frames but I I actually like working on the bench. Think fan of working on the bench.

Oh that's another one. Six one soldering is a lie. I'm actually a lizard person. so a lie Boring.

This is the best You kidding me? It's the boring his batchi I think I'll spit out on my bendy. oh I'm gonna. oh that's terrible Mira Oh come on, it's dodgy. Yes my.

actually with this bigger tip, tell you what. I'll go back to the point nine millimeter and see how she goes. Not so thick, nice thick ass. Yeah okay, point is faster.

Yeah Yeah there we go Here we go. stick with the point night. I Still think it's too thick I bent those didn't I hear one six one six month? Well six one. So much screaming at me if I put a chipping backwards, use one millimeter do you? yeah? I'm just a fan of thin solder here.

we go watch this ready. No okay, don't go. go. go go.

Okay, okay, can't controlled as much so that's more. Once again, nice. I don't reckon that tip is getting the best contact with that pad. Impossible.

There we go. That's better. There we go. I'm looking liking that is slightly different, slightly different angle where and come on that's just didn't go.
It's like those my flux on the end of that yes I could drag solder this I've shown that in previous live shows, but not a fan of drag solder and dip. Something therapeutic about doing joint by joint. Okay, yeah, trying to blow it away. It's not good.

Uh, actually I'll turn on the fan. tell me what the noise is like. Tell me what you think the noise is like. Horrible, right? don't? Fraulein thanks.

Keep-keep he go Jael CPCB It's not horrible. makes it sound real, barely hear it. Really, it's bearable. It's not great, not horrible.

sounds like Guzman oh my god. Turn it off Jet engine sound Solar noise 370 Yep, it's horrible. Yeah, there you go. It's a it's a 240 volt fan so somebody if you can like I'm like if you know if I can glow noise like 240 volt fan, please send me your details because I'd like to retrofit that but the problem with those is that you're gonna be like right over them.

You've got to be right over them so it's useless for camerawork like like this is just you know I basically have to just get a like a little disc fan that just blows that just washed it away so I'm not breathing lot as I said I've got my big purifier in here I Can actually wait Turn that up now. Two four four two four four I I thought I did these pins? Feels like I did two four four two two four four. It's a data bus and the bus box. Okay, here we go.

Yeah, it's with the biggest solder. It's just easier to put which is bad thing. easier to put too much solder on to the joint. It's better to have too little than too much.

I should have expected better and didn't get much flow there. See, there's a optimal point where you're going to leave it on for longer so it flows depends how much you want it to flow through. and North Texas University won't give up my day joke and become a production. Sodor Okay, is this board open-source Hardware Not yet? Yeah.

I Need like just a small fan, just a simply little ass. Where I'm getting is going to put like a couple of batteries on top of and a boost converter on top of the 12-volt fan. and just you know, be able to sit it on one side. just a one of those low noise ones and just to blow it aside because once it's out, then I've got my big air purifier here that will take care of it in the room.

So continually pumping fresh air into this room, you're you're in a ship watching this video. 25 minutes left, thank you. John Yeah, that's the authenticity. If you can see the smoke rising.

I Guess for Chibis what are we got? They won five, seven, every chips a winner. Oh yeah. I See Yep. I See four one, five sevens? Yep, you're all clustered there.

I Look, Jlc put their marking on Bastards. Well that there it is. They put their manufacturers marking on that. At least they put it under a chip which is nice of them.

I'm sure that's very deliberate sir. I Think it's an option, isn't it? is it option in the Jlc. PCB Check out to hide. Those like to tell them not to put it on.
or maybe it's not. Maybe you have to. Maybe it's part of their route because they're low-cost surface. they have to do that.

That wouldn't surprise me. I Wouldn't up up Backwoods backwoods. Did anyone notice it? It's testing? Yeah. testing.

Didn't anyone get it? anyone can say it now either. Like how all the chips are in the right way. So good. Good My out this I sold a daddy.

Yeah, sometimes you put the soda up and it just doesn't melt. point. No, it's not as controllable, but it's quicker. Not so today.

See there we go. Someone just didn't want to take how many people we got now 630 watching lighter. so during another time it just didn't want to take. Looks like there's no solder on that, but there's actually plenty.

Yeah, I saw it because gigatron video swinger things. Now that's all today. See those little sort of dag there and then happens. You get the little splatters, the flux Lux goes kaboom and off goes a little bit of solder.

It's all part of. it's all part of the business. There we go. What you're from: Canada 1:40 a.m.

What temp? I'm at 370 370. it's important. Protip: When you like inspecting a board or something, wave your hand over it. use the Force It really helps to see that you've got everything in the right way.

Trust me. haven't missed any roses Have I know last 20 minutes. Thank you Here we go. Well here's a ton of chips.

This will do the bulk of it. These will be one five threes, one five threes as far as the eye can see I Don't know where my dip pin straightener is to be handy. It's nice fun. Do enjoy the process of bending the pins and solder and individual stuff.

Anyone got any questions? It's all a roadway block. What? Yes, this is Bordeaux made with the reverse layers. Yes, somebody's seen my video. was the moon turret landed? Really serious dude.

Oh god it kf5 OBS Today, what's the moon Man? Really can't be serious dude. Go to my Eevee Discover video. I've done my own original research on the moon landing. Ah sorry, um yeah, sorry.

Oh the super chat. yeah sorry. Luke yeah yeah, you donated money and the super chat. sorry I didn't get back to it did I it's my attention span.

Oh, it's gone. How do you? How do you see old super chats? sorry Luke ask your question again. it doesn't have to be another super chat. Please everyone.

make sure I answer Luke's question. I've rescued a couple of boards from a Siemens older What? What's an older wire system from the work? skip I Have no idea what that is. some components stamped with West Germany Would you be interested in them for mailbag? Ah, it sounds like they're big. Probably not.

I'd say thanks for the offer though. Boards, boats Roy's It depends on what on what's on them like. If they're like, you know if they got like an interesting story or they got interesting chips up. like you know, interesting components or whatnot.
Any sort of interesting construction and the interesting layout and your interesting build things like that. I I Don't know unless I saw him. just have me West Germany stamped on him. it's not siding really.

Damn. I've done a lot of boards on my Oh bags and sometimes they're in. Usually I can say something interesting about them, but you know often they're not. They're actually not that interesting.

I Try to make it, try to say as much about it or go off on some tangent somehow. I'm not gonna be able to flip this. Yes. I can.

yes flipper board with eight chips because I am a boss. Look at that. Flipped it like a boss eight chips without bending the pins. That's boss level.

Wow So yeah, um, they send me photos of the boards Luke please but squeaky sound as the pins movement I Super chat good on you Dave thank you very much. Unpronounceable name 201 that soda just did not want to milk see because the problem. the problem is soda is that when you actually melt it and you pull it away like that it now actually doesn't have the flux on the end. If you cut it with a scalpel then you will expose the the flux on the end and you it'll be better.

So I guess if you're soldering something that's going to Pluto you know would you be cutting that solder every joint and you might any more quick questions? I've got like 12 minutes left. You me split. There's no questions. Maybe you want my opinion on something? Always good at giving my opinion anything at all.

I'm an expert on every topic. What's the best kind of tip Now long as a piece of string for general purpose use, it's got to be a wedge like I am a chisel sorry chisels. the corrector chisel tip probably. you know one point six millimeters.

do I have it a chisel or something. smallish chisel. if you're doing dip, you do have you get a bigger one. I mentioned that earlier in the show show what is a live show I guess opinion on Hong Kong I hope they I hope they get there and get well.

yeah I Then I was gonna say I hope they get their freedom but that's never gonna happen I hope to stay independent. the Chinese don't crush them good on them for protesting. They got some balls but I suspect yeah Chinese government's gonna win and doesn't the doesn't the mandate run out in like 10 years or something like as in like a which is part of the deal handing over from the British to but like it was at one one one country to system thing or something I I Think that that has a contractual time limit. So yeah, yeah, it was the smallest thing really that triggered at all.

Well though they'd be protesting for a long time, it's not the first time. Good on them. Wireless charging rows for electric cars me not. You can make it work but geez, you know is temperature-controlled iron a must.
Oh yeah, it's got to be temperature controlled. Temperature variable is a thing. you don't have to have temperature variable. but I recommend it.

It's got to be temperature controlled as in one fixed temperature. Oh Fifty years is it okay right? All right I Thought it's closer than that How the Russian powered nuclear missile that exploded Didn't it? You know what? have I got in five three that proposals been around for a long time to have rocket-powered missiles and then have them loiter around. Whole idea is that you can have a Lucifer forever really for ages and then just waiting. That's it.

It's a relic from the Cold War The US tried it and gave up for various reasons. There's good reasons: I think don't know what's gonna come of that. Wouldn't expect much. Yeah, don't believe the money an Australian it's a piece of away on those new so that French contract oh my god that's a joke joke with a laughing stock of the planet.

Yeah! I Heard they got some new footage from the Titanic Ah I Missed a super chat today. It's not at the top. Oh yeah, sorry yeah Thank You JP it doesn't appear at the top I thought it like appeared at the top and sort of like stayed there and you can go back and do it Pina not make a lion's well a lot of people swear by my have used him. We used to use them in on the production line the company I've worked out and then yeah, they're They're really good.

What their thermal performance is? Absolutely brilliant. It's nothing wrong. McGowan's um, fantastic. No cheap and use a fundamentally different technology to the to the direct heat thing that's an induction a theme and they are very good.

Yes, dare I say excellent. Potentially better than anything else? Yeah I know I Just like having my temperature adjustable, nobody warned me I got one backwards I got one backwards. Oh what a twit, What a twit. What a 20/20 All right.

just gonna set up my solder sucker cuz it's not near me here and it takes a while to warm up. 25 degrees, 29 degrees 33 41 for 50 60 Anyway, this will be able to suck this chip out. it'll be it. Got to go Yeah Murphy got me again.

my magic force powers didn't see it or don't do that afterwards now. Yeah. I Go in backwards Yeah. I actually mistook the I Mistook the someone's banging on somewhere.

There you go. So gonna focus bastard. Yeah. I Mistook the the dot up there for a for the notch like that.

Yeah, if you don't get the light at the right angle, easy enough mistake to make. let me tell you to 60. Oh gosh, it's taking forever. Yep, why don't stall sockets? ahh softens up with yeah.

install the socket for the room of course cuz you want to change the ROM but for the rest of it now. sort of chips straight in. Anyway, it's got to match my other boards. I Can't put a salt.
the sockets in my other boards. the chips are soldered directly in. These have to be sold directly in because I'm doing a direct baby comparison on the EMC for this board and if you put sockets in there, that matters. Changes the loop area for every single trace so you know you can't No light light is a big deal.

It's not a matter of that light light makes a huge difference that looks clear, sounds clear. it's not quite up to tamp yet. Why is there? If there's a battery? There's a battery on the holdup, sir. I'll have to do it like this cuz I can't do it.

You've got to hold it upside down. You gotta let gravity do its thing. Nothing beats a proper vacuum solder sucker. Pretty essential: you want to give each pin a week or two taking bits.

Now will it come out the one go? Feeling confident? Confidence is high I Repeat confidence is high and I Miss Window confidence is high. No, we all just got it. Give it a little. There we go, just needs a little nudge.

Tada there we go. I'll flip that around back in. Mmm-hmm Bob's your uncle my Waqas I Can't believe nobody spotted that. Unbelievable.

All right. So thanks everyone for joining me cause I have to go now. Didn't finish the board, finish it shortly and then I'll do another video comparison. see when it works.

If it doesn't work, do troubleshooting video. That'd be cool. Anyway, there we go. Yeah, there's not light if I get ball.

if I tilt the board like that then I can easily see the dots. just the light is at the right angle. It's much easier so hate these ones are there. Yeah, they have the dot on the end.

It's just. it's really every single one of them. It's really annoying. These are all Texas Instruments all TI Damn you.

TI it's time. Yeah, like five more chips not counting the SRAM or the ROM two four six three four five one. oh one two three four five six seven eight nine. Ah maybe I didn't get them all over.

Yeah, there's various chippies. Yeah as a socket. There you go. I have to do that.

I have to do the socket I Have to do it. I Have to do it. Don't know why, just have to hammer. So yep, thanks for joining me everyone for this impromptu live soldering thing I Really need to work on getting this whole setup more streamlined, but it's hard.

Lighting, audio, fume extraction, light angles, cameras that actually work As I said, those C920 webcam C920 work. You cannot solder under one of those. It's useless. They do your door setup and then it's good for some soldering things for others you need like the the Tacoma or something because so it's almost as if I have to have like one separate setup rig for everything.

So there you go: Thing of beauty: Joy forever Terrible material. Oh whoa, whoa. My screen just went blank. Oh A screen saver.

There's a screen saver Thank You Uni-level Auto Looking for the best handheld graphing multimeter? You're my only hope I Don't off hand sorry I don't know. Graphing multimeters Um, like you know that fluke 2, 8, 9 and stuff like that. sorry I'm not across the market for those I'm just not I wouldn't be able to tell you off the top of my head anyway. Um, thank you everyone for joining me - miss Super Chat alerts What? I can't see I can only see one super chat thing up here to Mississippi Chat alerts Oh ok $5 nowaday if I have a real question 5 Copy edition I've said thank you Ben A copy edition of Silicon Chip? What? Which one which is my favorite copy edition of Silicon Chip magazine? don't really have one? I don't know, maybe the one that's got my microcurrent in it piece of be designed tutorial ones I Sorry, that's not it.
Yeah, don't think I missed any more Anyway, have to go guys! thank you very much for joining me. I'm off to have dinner with you. Beam Former you beam as everyone is shortly to be performing, you beam anyway. if Merit is ever in Sydney it's an invite I Shouted to dinner.

There you go. Alright, thanks everyone. Catch you next time So we're ngayon off! How do I stop this thing.

I hope that you and your family is alright due to wild fires raging in Australia close to Sydney, mount all components into board then put it through a wave soldering unit and keep the amount of solder stable but you need the proper soldering flux paste and solder ingots which gets melted down so that it goes through the wave soldering machine, A CNC board stuffing machine would make this very quick then wave soldering the board but would make for a very uninteresting video.

Back in the day, Ben Heck used to be amazed at how much of his audience liked to watch him solder. He did a few videos specifically to cater to it.

    Hi Dave

If both the PCB and component are nice and fresh, you can drag solder IC pins at pretty high speed. Just trail the iron and solder along the side of the component. Don't try this if the board has been sitting around for a week or two.

I had some painting to do. Watched this while it was drying.

It's technically NOT a TTL computer, as it has all HCT cmos parts.

I'm watching this a day later but it's still live soldering, is there any other type of soldering, can you do it in a dream?

Thanks Dave. Finally, a sensible man who dares to stand by his opinions. And you are absolutely right, Europe is fuc….

    Best wishes from Denmark.

I just pulled apart a cyberpower FTTP UPS to find out why it's not working, seems a TOP246YN  AC/DC Off-Line Switcher IC
Has exploded. I would love to send it to you to examine on your channel, however I have to wait for a Telstra tech to come and replace it. Would you be interested in examining the photos of it? And what's the best way to send them to you?

Nah, you don't need a fume extractor. I grew up with the sweet scent of full-fat lead solder in my nostrils and their ain't nothing wrong with me. DERP!

I don't want to sound cocky or anything but i feel like my cheap hikari soldering iron would do a much better job, i can solder these packages like nothink with it

My c920 failed after 2years of being packed away in a box during the decoration of my home. Logitech was not interested. I had only actually been using it for about 6month previous. I swore to them I would never buy another Logitech item again.

Thinking that the silk screening gets worse on ICs is completely normal… it comes with age.

popualte everything than solder 2 pins on the component side flip the board then solder all the pins in the pattern you prefer. Thick tip 480 degrees and don't forget to forget few pins for later troubleshooting

The auto focus on my C922 is pretty terrible. BUT if you set fixed focus it's really good.
