Hi, it's YouTube change time again and you know what that means. Yeah, it's never good every time YouTube Make a change. It's never for the better. Practically never.

Name me please in the comments down below because I'm struggling to think of the last change YouTube made that was for the better I Still can't thumbs down like it's a view. Thumbs down Like uh, come on. Anyway, we get little pop-up Us creators get little pop-up messages at the top when we log into our dashboardy thing. and yeah, and here we go.

We're making changes to our advertising format or whatever. So I go to Click here to learn more. Let's learn more because there's changes. Come in in November and you're almost certainly not gonna like it.

Neither are the creators YouTube Advertising formats Starting in: November We're simplifying the choices for ad formats that show before or after your video to improve. Creator Revenue So it's all about to improve the revenue. For us. For the creators, that should be good, right? in.

November We're removing. We're removing the individual ad choices for pre-roll post roll, skippable and non-skippable ads. We are. We're removing them individual ad choices.

Okay, so every time us YouTubers upload a video, we get there. We can set defaults of what we want, but we can individually select for each video whether or not what type of ads we want. Whether we want pre-row post role, Mid-roll adds those annoying ones that pop up in the middle of the videos I Experimented with those. It didn't increase uh, the revenue at all.

and even if it did I hate them. So I I've basically I've never used like those mid-roll ads because I find them annoying and hopefully you do too. I'm sure you do too, right? So I'm I'm one of the creators who don't use them, but other creators think, oh yeah, mid-rolls of them Doc Scott's they're the money. they're the the cash cow right? But anyway, I I find it's yeah and non-skippable ads, right? So we can select all these.

They're going to remove the ability for us creators to individually select for videos, whether or not, well, what type of ads that we want going forward. When you turn on ads for new long form videos, we'll show your viewers pre-roll pre-roll post, role, skippable, or non-skippable ads when appropriate when appropriate. That means whoever pays us will and then you know if some political party's going to pay us to insert uh, these ads in. well, the government's going to pay us to insert these ads in the middle of your videos.

God Damn it, you don't have a choice about it and you're gonna, uh man, your viewers are gonna see them. So yeah, we have no choice in this. so please come. November Do not blame your favorite YouTube Creator If you start seeing ads which you never saw before in in particular, mid-rolls are the most annoying or the non-skipper or if you had skippable before, now, they're non-skippable Uh, for example, this is no longer under the control of the YouTube Creator All we have to do.
All we have is the ability to turn ads on or off. like add monetization for a video on or off if we turn it on. which you have to do because there's been lots of studies even like Fran for example. Uh, she's done a study of um, where like She never used to monetize her videos at all and she found that just de-boosted her in the algorithm like videos weren't showing up anymore.

So she was forced to turn on ads even the creators who don't want to monetize their videos. they don't need the money or they don't want it. Whatever. Great.

But they were forced to turn on the ad Revenue because uh, otherwise your videos just disappear in the magic of the algorithm and so we no longer have a choice to create to tailor what sort of ads. Um, you guys see, so sorry, but it's going to be out of our control. Come November This change makes the recommended best practice to turn on all ad formats as standard for everyone. Just like, uh yeah, it's the standard for everyone just to improve our mental health.

For creators, we're going to disable uh, the count for dislikes, We're going to disable it for everyone. You don't have a say in it. we're doing it to protect your mental health. And then they show us the the name bombard us.

We know we'll log into our dashboard and they bombard us anyway. with the dislike count, we can still see it. It's all it's all done to protect the you know, the big Players let's say the governments the Disney's of the world the Mickey Mouse's But thankfully there's a bit of a silver line into this. Our choices for mid-roll ads are not changing.

So the mid-roll ads uh that you that are pretty much the most annoying type of AD in my opinion. leave it in the comments. Um, it looks like we still have an option whether or not to have those. but basically we're being forced to have pre-row post role skippable or non-skippable mine I think are all set to skippable I've got mine by default.

Every one of my video is skippable ADS So if you get the non-skippable ones that go for two minutes now sorry, it's it's not me making that choice. It's not your favorite creator making that choice. It's no. Anyway, to help improve the viewer experience, it's about helping you didn't you know and optimize for higher performing ad formats across desktop mobile device YouTube will no longer run overlay ads.

Oh there you go overlay ads. There are a legacy ad format that appear on desktop. We expect limited ad packed on earnings. most creators engagement shift in other AD formats blah blah blah blah blah right now.

Basically, they reckon that desktop is dying I can assure you I I've got the metrics more than the majority of my viewers still watch on desktop. I still watch. you know a good lot of my content on desktop if I'm watching on the mobile I'm not actually watching it on the mobile I've got it like in my pocket and I walk into the gym with the headphones and I'm just listening to it like you know I'm listening to a podcast or a video that I don't really have to watch. Yeah, sorry I Creators Come November it's we.
We're basically forced to turn on the videos if we want to be on. YouTube we're forced to turn them on and now we don't even have a choice over you know, skippable or non-skippable ads. So yeah, sorry about that, but it ain't us now. Of course you won't see any ads at all as I do I'd never see any ads because I pay for YouTube premium and I don't like to chill for YouTube premium.

but I find it really valuable. and about I think 20 15 to 20 of my Revenue actually comes from a YouTube premium subscribers. So thank you very much. So if you say I just like the concept of I pay one monthly fee however much it is I think it's 10 bucks 12 bucks 14 bucks I don't know something like that a month.

Um, depend might depend on your location. don't know Anyway, if you like, you spend that one thing and then every video you watch a little portion of that we don't know how much. it's still the magic. You know the magic divvy up algorithm which they don't tell you how it works but anyway, it does apparently work and you a little bit goes to each content creator that you actually watch without having to personally subscribe to them and you know or join their patreon or do whatever you know.

So I I just like the concept and I get no ads and also I get the ability to on my shoe phone I can uh on the YouTube ad I can just start set play and I can turn the phone off and then it keeps playing in the background. That's a YouTube premium feature and I can download as well. If I'm in the Outback and I've got no reception, I can download the videos beforehand I look I know you can do all this without premium. and yes, there's the ad lockers.

If you want to use ad blockers, great, Go ahead use it I personally I don't I just pay the YouTube premium and I get and the no ad um experience. So yeah it's I just find it and rather nice system but I can understand if you don't want to pay for YouTube premium. hey, that's fine. I'm on plenty of other platforms you can watch for free ad free.

Um, now of course Odyssey I was promoting Odyssey for years still am I think it's still the best alternative uh platform Unfortunately They did lose the lawsuit for the library credits thing. even though Library credits isn't really. you know it doesn't matter. they are looking at, it's not like they're going to get Bust or anything and don't worry about that.
I've still got now. got 71 000 followers there. 70 904 followers on Uh Odyssey I still watch content on Odyssey all the time. Um, and so all my videos are over there.

a great Uh platform, but it they're supposedly some sort of changes come in I presume it's in regard to the Uh Library credits thing, which kind of like the backbone of how it all works kind of. but anyway, that remains to be seen. Then they're not folding. They've got nothing to do with uh Lbs.

They've got nothing to do with Library Odyssey and Library are too legally separate companies. so anyway, it's got nothing to do with the uh, the lawsuit or whatever anyway. Um, so yeah, you can watch my videos on Odyssey Um. Also, I'm on uh player player player I don't know who's the French accent I don't know.

It used to be called Utreon which was a perfectly fine name. It was a Utreon right? And anyway, all my videos over there are 4 000 followers I don't use it myself I Say yeah Player sounds like a What? they changed their name to that Really? From Utreon to play sounds like a porn site, it sounds like a you know, a swingers site or something I don't know. it's just no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no wrong. Anyway, my videos are also available on Shoot but shoots absolute rubbish.

Um, and they're only 480p but I don't use it. Um, and they're available on Facebook as well. but sorry I don't use really Facebook and I don't read comments on there I don't interact I don't use it myself. So but my videos are there if that's the thing you want to do.

Um, yeah. anyway. um, look at that. Louis Rossman he did Escape From New York and that's a thing I created when I was trying to escape in 2020.

it took him a couple of years, but he finally escaped. Good on you Lewis Um, yeah. and also, um, I'm now uploading my videos natively onto Twitter slash X Um, so yes, follow me on X that's where I'm hanging out all day I'm hanging out all day on the twitterverse. Uh, the X verse and uh yeah, I'm publishing my native videos on there as well.

But the only place you'll find like exclusives will be on my website. Uh, going forward. So yeah. YouTube must be really desperate to force these, uh, changes through.

They're obviously getting desperate. They're not getting the take up on premium that they expected. Uh, for example: I presume this is just to push more people over to even surprise. I don't advertise it here, do they? And that they might anyway.

I don't know. Um, yeah, maybe they're not getting enough people taking up the premium, but that's yeah. they're obviously trying to milk the cash cow even more. It's just gonna piss everyone off.

It's just ridiculous. Unbelievable. Um, and yeah. sorry about this.

    Youtube now is rly craking down on addblockers hard .. adblock plus now aint working for me so I just instaled uBlock orgin, will see how it goes cause youtube with ads is just unbearable! If they will go full ham and will try to remove all addblockers then it will be bye bye youtube for me, I value my time too much to be watching complete crap ..

    That’s why I put AdBlock on all of my browsers. Ads are fucking infuriating, especially the mid-roll ads, which incidentally are 2 or 3 times the volume of the videos I’m watching. I. Once watched a 10 minute video that had 6 mid-roll ad breaks.

    Remember, tech companies are laying people off, and now optimizing for efficiency vs growth in a more mature and in the case of YT, perhaps a shrinking eyeball count vs peak covid viewing. Advertising revenue has probably become tighter and not sure on tiktok vs YT market share. The squeeze is rolling down, for our benefit…. Fran's look into this is great insight into this squeeze. EEVBlog was THE reason I started watching YT.

    An ad blocking method I use seems to be a good compromise; plays one ad pre-roll. Might not be an ad from YT though.

    How are you compensated by users of utube Premium, i.e., by member count or vids watched or just a flat rate? I love premium and I am physically, mentally, metaphorically and chemically unable to dislike ads less than I do. UTube has become my primary source of visual distraction so I really don't mind paying whatever for premium.

    I've seen ads that are 10 hours long. If they F that up and make the infomercials/miniseries non-skippable, that will destroy the revenue for the video in which they've been placed. Personally, I think ads should be limited to 2 minutes or much less. If you can't get your point across by then, you never will. That's what YT should actually be doing – going after advertisers to conform to a short standard.

    I wonder when they'll start putting these ad restrictions on "Shorts".

    I watch on desktop cause there it's most easy to get rid of the horrific annoying ads, it's the reason I stopped using my android tv box. I was going to chose premium but then google started pushing more horrific ads and in increasing numbers and I do not respond well to being strongarmed. So now it's no ads though various means and supporting creators outside of youtube.
