The Patty Wagon is alive in this video! It really came to greatness quickly and all it took was a whole lot of paper mache and some paint. In the last episode this patty wagon go kart was just a rolling chassis for our soapbox racer, and what we needed to first do was cut out a floorboard from plywood. After we had a complete lightweight floor, all we needed to do was make some sort of scaffolding to hold up the paper mache that would form the body of the burger. It really wasn't as difficult as we expected and as soon as we got our chicken wire frame up and solid, everything went smoothly and the burger took shape. After that it was just about an entire weeks worth of paper mache, working tons of hours to get this thing looking at the top of its game! After the shell was dry we made a patty out of expanding foam, then painted it up with some spray paint and that's when it really started to look incredible! Now all we need to get done is all of the finishing touches and get this thing ready for the big race!

In the last video, we made a complete rolling chassis for our paddy wagon a little background. This is for a 2019 Red Bull soapbox derby race in downtown Dallas. It's going to be awesome. There's some tons of teams competing, but we think we've got a real shot at winning.
So what do we need to do in this one, and then we got the frame done. We need to get this thing looking like a burger, so we got our plywood base. We're gon na build up chicken wire and then we're gon na lay our paper mache on top of that yeah. So really we don't really know what we're doing here, but we've seen a lot of people that kind of use this method for like huge parade floats.
This thing is gon na, be like six, five, five and probably about this tall. So there's a lot of work going into this thing: let's just get started because we're probably gon na do a lot of iterations and mess up a lot, but that's the name of the game. The main objective of this build is actually to just keep build a case for Joseph, so you can't break stuff anything anything anymore. Yeah.
You want to go through how we kind of did this job yeah. We just started with the roll and started laying it against this edge and what we did was just staple it on the lines that we drew and kind of got the contour and the shape of this thing down. And then we just started to kind of Bend up those edges, so we can get a solid foundation for when we start to bend the actual burger shape I'll be able to tell on camera. But we got all this chicken wire shaped in the general shape of two buns and a patty, the lettuce and cheese and other details.
Those will all be added in post, but now it's time to start bending in this upper bun and kind of cutting some relief cut. So we can get that dome shape all right. So it's getting pretty wonky in the corners with all this different angles. We got going on here, so these relief cuts are really helping to get these curves shaped in roughed in for now yeah it's about ten o'clock.
It's Monday. We leave for college next Monday, so we're gon na call it. Here. We've got a lot of work left to do, but there's a pretty good base shape for us to build off it's a next day and, as you can see, this is kind of one of our prototypes for scaffolding and actually we're really happy with this.
These are these aluminum bars like don't even weigh a pound each for an 8-foot section, so it's really good and it's and we're able to bend it really good to a contour. So basically, our plan is we're. Gon na have two on each side and one in the front just again missing a basic, rigid support system. So now we need to do.
Is we have our template so now, when you take this off and Bend up five more of these okay, so we got four nearly identical brackets, so we'll get to zip tying the chicken wire up to it. Hopefully, this works at the front support bar in so now. We need to make this back support bar. But since our seats kind of right here, we're gon na have to bend these 90 degrees and go kind of around making a little cowl around the seating area and then they'll go up to this side and take a brief sport. So now that we've got these structural bars in place, we need to get this last one in and then we can start massaging the chicken wire and then it's on to paper mache. So we've got kind of this first front corner done, and it's really looking great. So I mean I'm just kind of like twisting the chicken wire like kind of molding it into the right shape, but I mean it's not too hard. It's actually going a lot faster than I was expecting, but the next step you'll see is this thing fully mocked up in the most throw paper mache our batter for the paper mache.
This is cooking with VBR. Remember just add one teaspoon yeah just trying to make like a thick paste. Oh it's nasty. This looks so gross.
I think we need to add more few string, so we got the batter already and we're laying it on yeah. No, this means disgusting. The garage don't floor is about to be absolutely wrecked. Look at that! That's like taking shape.
I think all right. It's been a little bit of time. Singing has had some time to. You know dry up pack up a little bit and it's holding together like look at that really well, the shape is really starting to become apparent yeah.
It's huge though this is taking us forever, and we probably only have about one coat on here. Only on the front section so we're just gon na keep working, okay, guys Jason Joe just headed out, but I wanted to get a clip of this thing before basically the next morning. So you can see what it's like kind of with the first two layers on and it's still wet. What we're gon na have to do is we have to put it on its side to be able to do the side pieces just because the gravity doesn't really help us with the with the way the paper lays out, but I mean this thing I had my Doubts before with the wireframe this up, whether this thing drives hard, it is like it's shaping up to be a freaking awesome burger and we layered the paper mache around the edge.
So it's kind of almost like kind of like your own little fiberglass hull, and this is a lot like fiberglass just like for kids, basically so yeah. We will see where we are tomorrow, but I'm super happy with how this thing is shaping up. So last time we wrapped up the top bun it's holding up pretty sturdy and it looks pretty smooth it's gon na turn out great, I think, and so now what we got to do is we have to tilt it up. So we can get paper to stick on these side pieces yeah, but it's coming along really well.
You can finally see we're starting to get some definition and our burger here so yeah just slowly, but surely this is taking forever all right. So we have some problems where the chicken wire would sag down where it wasn't supported. So what we kind of did is made palak al fondo type thing out of just mashed up newspapers, just kind of shredded them a little bit and then filled in all the gaps which actually works really well that the second side is done so now we're just Going to try and make it look nice and then we're ready for paint well done with paper mache now and we made the body unbolt the bowl, so we're going to take it off, let it dry and then get to painting dang. How light is it actually super light? Wow watch out for the trash doing that we're gon na? Let her bake out in the Sun a little bit. Hopefully our neighbors, don't ask any questions knew it. So we did a couple test coats on a piece of wood. Now we're gon na send it on here, and hopefully it comes out pretty good. Oh yeah keep looking needy yeah we're just kind of scoping the edges to make it look a little bit smoother and rounder.
But what can we have looking at liked? It like? It looks a little flat at first, but now we got that dimension and we'll have cheese and lettuce up on top so like this will be hidden too so yeah. Looking good hang out the guard this day, we've done a base layer and now we're just touching up where it bubbled up too much or where it's sagged analog was drying and it's got some nice texture. It looks really good. Actually yeah I mean it's definitely.
It looks a lot like foam right now, but I think I think, when it's all painted up, it's gon na be looking real nice. So we cut up the floor up so we can fit it around the seat bracket yeah. We did change up the seat, so it's a little higher. Yes, the residents were correct start our paint colors.
We have pretty much all the body done, we're gon na make sure we chose the right colors and everything's gon na look good before we paint the entire thing. So here it goes nothing so just to be clear, we're doing everything in the fun color yeah we're gon na do bun, color first and then we're gon na add yeah the meat color. All that they'll definitely take a couple of layers, but I think that's a good bunch all right guys, so I had to grab the care of her inside. But oh my gosh, like that, is kind of unsettling like it's like to relook at we spent like no time on this.
This is like this was like just kind of a tendency like cars. Right like this was zero yeah like we didn't really care about shading or anything but yeah. Let's just I'm gon na record y'all painting and let's watch this thing. Oh Garos wins all one color.
It looks so nasty yeah Jesse. It comes around pretty good. We're only doing one half - oh sorry, guys for the redbull film crews coming tomorrow sounds like we kind of want to leave some for them. But, honestly, if I just stand over here, you won't even see the other out.
So you'll get a good idea. What its gon na look like, whoa baby, look at it on camera! Guys! Look at the shading all right! So we're gon na give the meter kind of a little bit of a seer look so we're using some black and then we'll probably have to do another coat of brown on top of it to smooth it out, but yeah. It's super subtle! Okay! So now it's time to add accents to our bun, so we're just kind of giving them more toasted. Look, I guess especially around the edges and then around kind of the lower edge of each side of the bun and now just kind of tie in our meat to our buns and just make it look more realistic. I think hey, I don't know it's kind of issue, though it's like too realistic, like I mean Jason. What do you think goodness yeah, I'm really happy with how this is turned out like definitely exceeded my expectations. It's really family good um. It's I mean I'm just kind of shooting the bottom right now and then, after this, this 1/2 will be done.
Yeah, it's it's just like an issue. It's too real. It's actually I mean we're going. We were kind of going for the cartoony look, but I think we're gon na impress people with just how, from far away those things like straight up a burger, no yeah like if you crop this down the burger size, it would look like one.
So sorry, if there's a little bit of a gap at footage, but Red Bull sent an entire film crew out here, because this is for their soapbox race, so they may say, took a cool like kind of working montage. So there was just so much going on. I could not pick up the camera, but I'll put some links into the description that the videos are out. They should be really cool super high production quality.
I mean they have lights, huge mics, it's awesome, but we got the seat raised up about 12 inches. That way, we're kind of sitting higher in the patty and it can we painted said. Oh, my gosh, it looks incredible yeah so right now, I'm just cutting up some of the cheese, so yeah y'all guys have seen the second, but like putting cheese and lettuce on this thing. It makes it so much better.
It makes it look so much more realistic and it kind of ties in the super realistic burger to our less realistic headlights and spongebob theme. So so, basically, all we have left it's pretty pretty much daunting it bolted all together. So now it's just only aesthetic stuff. So, like will do oh, we did the propeller, which is so.
This may be huge, oh yeah! This is so funny guys, so I welded all that go Powersports 5/8 bearing on the inside there. So it's just like the real deal. So I'm like it's just a little things like that details, you're trying to win this thing, get some fan, favorite love! So yeah! That's all I'm talking about! That's all now, you're all up to speed okay. So this is a cup Ford in the future.
The paddy wagon is done. I really hope you liked it be sure to vote for us on we're gon na put the links in the description. Basically, it's a fan, favorite vote, so it's really important for like us to get as many votes as possible. So if you take some time and you're really like in the paddy wagon be sure to drop a vote for us, okay, thank you guys for watching so much went down in this video. I can't tell you how many hours of paper mache work we have into this thing, but it's like really coming together. It looks absolutely amazing: it completely exceeded our expectations on, so the burgers really glowing up so be sure to stay tuned. It's definitely looking at hyperreal, but now what we need to do is we need to kind of tone it down a little bit and work on the cartoon details so be sure to stay tuned. It seems like the next two videos are going to be.
Basically, all the finishing details to make it look like the paddy wagon and then we're race in this thing at Red Bull. So thank you guys for watching. Thank you. Go power sports see you next time.
I would have voted but I am watching this 10 months later awesome job thow
Where the meat and bun join is called the gooch
You guys got to paint the rims green!! Loving this build๐
Looks awesome. The shading made all the difference, as well the lettuce and cheese. And yes you should motorize it afterward.
so after you win are you going to figure out how to put the rotary in it ?lol
Now you need SpongeBob and Patrick costumes. And maybe a kove Bluetooth speaker
you should put a license plate on it sayin 'FASTFOOD'
LOL burger buggy. So sweet. Make sure you check Red Bulls web site if you have not. They do have some rules. I believe in you boy's. You can do it. We'll all be watching so get it all on tape when you run her. Don't get hurt please. Good choice on the tires as suspension and tires always bust first and make sure it is not squirrel'y as F.
If it survives the derby, you guys should see about putting a 212 Predator on it. Don't put any performance stuff though, just make it a fun kart for a kid.
Needs bacon 'n jalapenos! Y'all need Spongebob costumes for the race. It'll be HILARIOUS!
The headlights definitely gave it a lot more of that lovable cartoonish look. But holy cow does it look good!
You got my like and vote.. That thing made me hungry..LOL
are you going to be wearing a spongebob outfit with the squared off shoulders?
It's hyperrealistic like Squidward's eyes
If this isnโt motorised in the future I will be sadly disappointed ๐๐คฃ๐๐ฆ๐บ๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป
Nickelodeon is sending their goons to come see ya.
You guys should attach a small electric motor to the propeller and wire it into a little throttle pedal so it spins when you press the gas
This is awesome. It's too bad you guys only have 160 votes… it should be more like 6000.. ๐
You have to be on fakebook to vote. Not happenin. Would have given it though. Great job guys. I'm hungry.
One of you needs to dress up like SpongeBob with a big huge spatula….lol, then SpongeBob could chase after you racing down the track.
I think it should be donated to GoPoweSports for display.
Sorry guys, am not able to vote for any one on this- Red Bull is at least honest about cookies, but I'vew spent several hundred bucks to get some of the cookies others were piling into my 'puter. This is my machine and they don't pay me for the info they are dredging out of it. I'm not happy about that either, but until the industry or worse the Fed buts down some livable rules(livable to me and citizens like me- screw the corps who peddle my info and use up my 'puter and my cell phone! Tell Red Bull I'm not sorry- the cookies thing has been terribly abused here, and I stay away!
Dallas is home to me for the last 35 years- I'm going to try to be there!
Always a good day tying your meat to your buns with the boys.
Awww hungry again don't forget cool helmets ๐
You guys should put a small little electric motor to the water prop to make it spin real slow would make it look amazing
Looks good enough to eat actually lol.
Also, I'm a new subscriber but I have seen a lot of your builds months before I subscribed. Keep it up!!!
When you race it please get a 5 gallon bucket of french fries and throw fries to the crowd
Wow!!! Nice job guys, that looks amazing!!! Good luck in the race!!
