Okay Houston, we have a problem. This is the new Eevblog lab and it's flooded. It is. It is actually flooded.
Check this out. It's just. oh. look monitor.
There's the mall. Look at the monitor. Look. look at the monitor.
Wow So oh the bench. The bench. No Look at this. Holy Crap.
Oh it says like the whole bench is wrong. That's deep. That's deep. Look at.
this set is two completely flooded. It's come through the roof. It's flooded. all the benches flooded.
all the gear. Wow Look at the microscopes. The microscopes are completely nuded. Wow, That's just.
that's nuts. Do this. It's let's pour it through the lights here. Look at that.
That's just insane. This is really bad. Oh okay. so it did trip the power.
I'm standing in a puddle with the power on. Okay, I probably shouldn't be. Yeah. Anyway, the new Eevblog lab is flooded.
Wow. this is just it. Is there any in your office right now going dry as a bone? Yeah. great.
You pick up people who David pick the good office. Anyway, it was just like flash hail out there. I was just downstairs recording some stuff and I got that. But look, it's right in the middle of the room.
Look at this. What an enormous puddle right in the middle. How deep is that? Ah, that's the insanely deep like that's in the flash flooding outside. Oh yeah, it's crazy.
It was in the hail and it was like a hundred kilometer an hour winds. Oh there's the bean bag. It's the bean bag. The bean bags flooded all right.
So yep, it's my poor circuit design beanbag. If you haven't seen my circuit design beanbag, it's it's now gonna be. Yep, that's ruined. and Wow So obviously there was a natural divot in the floor here.
There was like it. you know, just a natural depression as you get in these concrete floors so it's all flowing out of there. Wow Flooded I Never would have aa million years. I Wouldn't have guessed.
No, we aren't. We're nowhere near the top floor, so this is just wow. Well, it's Turtles all the way down the money. It's deep over here too.
Look at this. This is like I can. It's like almost my finger depth. This is just not.
So don't know how are we gonna mop this up? Well, we're gonna have to get this is more than a bunch of tails and stuff which we don't have here. I've got one towel for the gym, but yeah. Wow Okay, it's all over now. it's just drizzling down outside.
But it was ridiculous. undred kilometres an hour winds. It was ridiculous. I Got some footage of it and the end at the Hale as well.
And you're trying to get a burrito and so oh, there's a fluke. There's the IR tester. There's that. There's the batteries.
I'm there. There's the batteries being tested over there, my document scanner and the bench is just under water. Great! PC Under there's okay. Yeah.
Wow Oops Yes. I am insured and luckily this is not my office I don't own this I better actually go check my lab. although it's not the same building. So anyway, yeah so they have it. carpet. I I Never would have guessed in a million years that this place could flood. It's in a commercial office building and that's just that's just crazy. There's that that's a lot of volume of water that we've got to mop up and it.
God Did it get into my didn't get into my office? No yes, my office is a bit of a mess. There we go. Yeah Wow David put my PC up but I don't think it got in there. So this all happened in like three minutes.
Oh right, just four minutes. So this started. Maybe she'll like him. put a bet if we put a barrier there.
it could have been contained I was baby on that? Yeah, it was beyond. it was water fall out of the ceiling. Yeah it was. Yeah, yeah yeah.
I saw that. yeah yeah it was dripping before I got that? Wow it's still coming down. Yep, rains coming down heavy again so we better get to the recovery phase. But yeah I'm like it's getting green.
Oh right. But yeah, look at this like this is just it. Like my my microscopes, my Fleur thermal-imaging camera, my new microscope, my good optical Olympus. it's probably okay.
We kept all right. All right, let's yeah. Anyway, so there you go I Never would have guessed in a commercial office building like this one that we could get flood in like this. I That's just nuts.
I've never seen that in any commercial office building I've worked it. You know, occasionally you'll get something. Maybe you get a leaky curtain wall, glass window or something like that? No, this is yeah. Anyway, um, this could be inexpensive and lengthy repair.
and if they have to replace the carpet which I'm pretty sure they're gonna have to do right can't see a way around it then the whole Lab has to go. Yeah, I mean I Can't see how we're gonna get around not moving the whole lab again. They're just a look under a space. This is not.
This is not good. This is not good. Yes, we'll keep you updated, but that's major massive carpet damage and of course it's gonna stink. It's gonna be.
it's gonna be awful. So yeah, not much we can do but try and mop it up and then well-well keep you updated on the aftermath. Catch you next time.
Damn…Hope you have good insurance coverage, Dave!
Anyone in the same predicament in future and can get power to site grab a couple Wet Vacs to help suck up what you can
Contractors for you …
Oh dear, hope the Hakko was ok 😱
Hail blocks the drains on the roof, the gutters then overflow into the ceiling space.
"Oh no! The EEVBlog lab is flooded!"
[laughs in Nebraskan]
when you cant be bothered to goto the beach, so the beach decides to come visit you instead!
If only the office block had a slanted twin slanted roof to force the rain water down the storm drain, can you claim back on your insurance.
Oh No….
No No.
Hearing your voice it's difficult to decide that you are desperate or you think it's funny.
Oh, no! Send me a couple of those microscopes
Global Warming!
For our loss…
Most buildings are built for 100+ KM/H winds, they won’t be blown but they have many flaws that things like this happens.
My apologies dude, I always feared this myself after collecting any electronic equipment. May you salvage something out of it take care.
Global Warming is real.
Is that an HO scale Train Layout? <3
God that's horrid, Looks like you need a wet vac! Glad to hear you have coverage!
If only you had installed Solar Roadways instead of carpets, the Solar Roadways would of prevented this 🙂 hehehe
Geez, you and Fran had the same bad luck.
AHHHHHH!!!!! Know how you feel bro. My company got flooded out from a roof leak in Hurricane Katrina in Belle Chase Louisiana USA. The government was going to shut the lab and about 40 people would have lost their jobs and homes. The 12 people that were still in the area Immediately went in and washed and dried the carpet, cleaned and dried hundreds of pieces of gear, scopes, spectrum analyzers, Signal Generators, Power Meters etc. you name it we probably had it. Most of the gear just had some moisture on the outside from the carpet being SOAKED so all they had to do was dry everything, but we did loose almost a million is assets that couldn't be salvaged as the gear got water in it, there were hundreds of pieces that we lost. Their efforts paid off and we were allowed to remain open because of those guys. As a result of the damage the Lab relocated several year later to a brand new building with a nice metal insulated roof. Some of the more important and expensive pieces you can just remove the boards and put some alcohol on them, to mix with the water, shake and pat with some paper towels then put them in a forced air oven and let them dry out. Most of the time it works or good enough to only have to replace some parts instead of buying a whole piece. Sorry about the lab, press on Dave and keep us informed. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya
Just use a shop vac.
“A natural depression in the concrete floor” with over an inch of water. Sounds like a cheap building that doesn’t meet code.
Thumbs UP my lab getting flooded! grin
