Dave and David2 brainstorm new uCurrent and other product design options.
Autoranging systems, low current measurement design, noise, overload, USB isolation, ADC's, Gold vs Platinum, marketing, market direction, and a host of other stuff in this often tangential session.
And what common component name did Dave pronounce embarrassingly wrong for his entire childhood?

Done.
I clicked on the ad ๐
Would an oversampled 24-bit delta-sigma DAC not give you your improvement over audio resolution?
I've always said "mul-tษช-mษชter" (as in hit) not "mul-tEE-mEEter". I have embraced this pronunciation because I think it sounds more, I don't know, regal…
thenks … for…
This was a great segment. The brainstorming thing makes for a good video. ๐
dave2 is still alive? good on ya daves
@EEVblog I want to integrate two existing circuit boards that both deal with digital audio. Can't write a full explanation here, just want to know where I could get help with this? I know virtually nothing about electronics so I'd happily pay someone with the skills to write me some instructions. Any suggestions for where to go for this kind of help? thanks guys
Maybe use an adjustable gain amplifier like an amateur radio does. Radio receivers have a reasonably high dynamic range and use automatic gain control(AGC or ALC) to stop the IF amps from overloading and still retain good sensitivity. Maybe there is a way this topology can be implemented on the uCurrent for dynamic range and auto ranging. Not sure, just a thought, maybe impractical??
I like the raw capture of the brainstorming. And since this is a uCurrent for microprocessors, wouldn't it be better call the uCurrent Micro or uCURRENTu ? ๐
That Toilet seat with "X" marks the spot on the whiteboard should be a huge seller……..you will get hundreds of female backers to give these as pressies to their husbands…….I notice you rubbed it out so as to protect your intellectual property lol
Isolated USB not so hard – MCP2200 going over an ADUM1201 isolator. MCP2200 powered from USB. Done.
Dave2 is alive, when will he complete the pick and place machine ?
I have thought about this for some of my own work a lot… Would be nice if the design had basically two measurement devices, one for fine stuff and one for the milliamps. The one thing is just gonna measure milliamps and gives out say 10mA and the second thing is measuring the 0.478mA above this 10mA so you have a gianormous dynamic range or could cut back on the high amp one and just make it 10bit or sth. similar. I wish I would find a circuit solution for this in analog circuitry :/
Maybe you should give your young engineer some encouragement. Saw none in the first 3 minutes so watched no further. Not encouraging at all. Dull.
Wow, I thought Dave II had been knocked-off by Dave I – So long since I've seen him…..
Wonderful! It's a genre (brainstorming) that probably should be in it's own separate playlist. You two seem to resonate. So is it: (a) Dave + Dave2 = 2Dave, or (b) Dave * Dave2 = Dave ^2 . . . I loved it and look forward to more like this.
Osborne effect example?
australian?
Every so often you need to have a video about other Utubers in electronics (I would choose ones that are very small, less than 5k subscribers). You could call it "Showcase" because you are showcasing small channels. I think it would increase you and them. You may already be doing this, if so, never mind.
I find this sort of insight into the design process both fascination and highly instructive, to see the thinking process of a design engineer at work on a real world project is much more useful that reading theory texts.
Cheers Daves
I would go with a 2 10x opamp with a clamping circuit between them that also outputs a digital signal to the micro. You could go with either with a dual ADC or with a mux.
This is a great topic/format. You have taken YouTube education it to another level. Hobbyists/students who may have book knowledge will gain valuable insight into the working processes of design which in my opinion is the hardest part to get actual working examples of. That "Ignore the camera" style of brainstorming is hard to find and being a hobbyist programmer (now an employed full time programmer i found the design process the hardest part to research. I'm re-kindling my childhood love of electronic kits so i really appreciate your channel.
Please do more of these
