Dave caught up with filmmaker Karl von Moller at the Electronex expo in Melbourne and asked him about the progress on his Australian documentary State of Electronics.
Guess who I found Carl Von Muller from the doco, let's go Corner him and see what the update is. There he is I feel a bit of rig Envy obviously that was that's what he's shooting the doco with total rig envy and this is not good I I should give. Unfortunately, this is my day job. Well here he is with his big rig and what's the update on the doco? Everyone wants to know.
Lots of lots of movement on the doco. We've got, uh, editing happening. We've now got a 4-Hour timeline which has to be split up into smaller bits. So we've talked about condensing.
but I can't I can't I really want all this content to be seen? Uh, really, the only way to get it seen is probably not using mainstream media, but using the internet as a vehicle. So I'm I'm probably going to do something what what you're doing Dave and that's basically inject advertising into it and put it up online, right? Okay, so you're going to try and find advertisers before the release? Have to? Yeah, Okay, yeah. so uh, being here today is a good scale representation of the Australian industry. I'm not sure.
Is this right da they're saying 30% growth on the previous point. Yeah, that's not good. I'm working towards a date I I I Can't say because this is completely self-funded it's not like I've got backing from uh, a government Source or an Industry Source even I am literally a hobbyist I enjoy electronics and I want to use my skills as a filmmaker to bring to bear. Perhaps some of the you amazing Fe features that has to offer.
um I want to see you know education system being improved? So I'm very keen to highlight some of the perhaps the negativity side of that in maybe showcasing the decline side of things but then also some of the most Innovative things that are happening too. and Bo there are some incredible things happening the do will will showcase that okay and the going to it is have faith I know I know it's long the to you've got this p in a day job right? day job? well you know about day job I'll show you stu show I wish I had more time I have to admit, and if if you've got like a spare ear I have uh, probably excess of 120 hours of video content to cut and listen to absorb and try and put into a timeline that's legible. So yes, pretty much yeah, four four hours at this stage and that doesn't cover the historical section which I've sort of had to broaden it a little bit by going into the history of Australian Electronics which kind of um actually shapes it today still. So I I wanted to sort of include that there are some incredible um Australians who aren't recognized inventors like a guy called Henry Sutton who purely I no idea about this guy but what he invent is unbelievable and the do really showcase that all right.
So there you have it folks coming. Good to see we're at lunch here. With this: this is it. This is how you sell it.
I'm down to this. You I'm going to sell it to every person in this room. Every person who got an iPad he's going to want. That's the interior of rock right there. Got that's that's so. They got rows and rows and rows of this sort of stuff just all in Cboard boxes. There's nothing colorful, it's brown, but it's honest and there lots of itex yeah, that's I'd love to I saw the drop tank for a F18 horn or something there. Brilant I need to go to that place.
that's the only true Electronics shop in Melbourne there's no others. This is a true electronic store. wonderful and you can go into that on a Saturday morning. And literally, if you've got, if you're struggling with something you need a bit of technical help, you can find somebody there who's not part of Rockes just happens to be.
They'll more than happily give you advice. and the prices very in volume I buy bags and stuff I'm for a hobbyist, I ear way too much because of Rockies.
Awesome to hear Henry Sutton being mentioned
Thumbs up for Rockby and owning *way* too much from them… Wish I lived in Melbourne sometimes.
I wonder how much Karl's camera cost and whether you could tell one whit bit of difference from, say, the HD output from a Nikon S8100/8200 or the like.
Can't wait to see this! ๐
Can't wait for the documentary to come out-I will defiantly watch it! looks really interesting.
Ah, good to hear about the doco again. Glad he's still working on it and good to hear it'll become a good, full-length documentary. Thanks for the update. ๐
