Hi I'm down in the dumpster. Ooh sorry about the quality shooting this on the phone and they're trying to go get my good camera. So all your own videos from the other side but check out what? I Found in the dumpster? Unbelievable. Hang on, let's see if we still got it.
It looks like a some sort of key site one of the huge arm series scopes. Marshall How old is? Well it's big heavy. Please have never found a scope in the dumpster before although I am aware that there are a couple of yo high-tech companies that would use such a high-end scope in the business park with that. I What a score! I don't know what model number it is.
we'll check it out all. I Get this sucker out and we'll take it back to lab and check it out. Hopefully it's a winner. Winner chicken dinner bit probably in the doctor for arena.
Let's go. Oh yes the Scopes Batman Oh this is going to be the test to score the decade. this year's you look at me Agilent - keysight roguish I infinium idea so x 93 200 series but it's the like the top of line unit, the 32 gig bandwidth, 80 gig samples per second. Why? I Yeah, why would you throw this out? I Can only imagine that because this is not your average everyday use of source code.
Like maximum art like 50 ohm inputs only maximum plus minus 5 volts. You know you get idiots going around, you know, just plugging in and thinking they can use this as a regular scope and just blow the front end so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's happened. blow on the front end and too expensive to fix the thing, but this thing is worth viii or tune if it. what if it works and it's not in bad nick either.
Obviously came out of some lab I have no idea what that means and it looks like they got the contact on there Edie good on your Edie looks in great Nick on the back too. it's got to have a hard drive is removable here GPIB Interface as you'd expect PCI Express times for expansion DVI output for an external monitor and curiously though, it's only 25 gig on here. so I guess maybe that's what the option 801 there does I don't know I haven't checked now. unfortunately this doesn't use regular B and C's as I said this is you know B and C is it might be able to get those on like you know, up to 10 gig scopes or something.
whatever sort of the maximum you can get special B and C's they go a bit higher I think but basically only high bandwidth once you get these custom job if they all look or they feel all loosey-goosey but they're designed to are B that looks like they're armed and SMA but a may or one's got a cowl output that's got a similar thing. So yeah, I might be able to cobble something together to get a signal in. right. Fingers crossed.
Here we go. Yeah, hold it down. Nope, not a sausage. Unfortunately, we're getting nothing on there and it doesn't have like a separate up house which on the back so the the primary is open.
Let's looks like we're going to crack it open. actually. Curiously, there was no like cowl sticker on the back of this preventing you all the bottom, preventing you actually taking this off so it's not coming off without a fight. Three screws on the back and ow ow ow bit of bloody aluminium in there I Have to get the tweezers out for that, but we are in like Flynn Awesome! There's our main standard. PC Motherboard. Ever it? Nothing. Nothing particularly special at all. so it's not why they've got a big controller board in here.
It looks like everything is just solder going over and that's so well, are you know, solder? Super high speed? I Said does the business so no worries whatsoever. There's all your serious hardware down in there. that's what you're paying. You know, $100,000 or whatever for that is a then I call some serious serious RF stuff happening down there.
Look at that. Wow Wow No touchy and we've got some serious cooling on here too. This puppy is going to be loud. You don't want to use this for everyday use Labs Go even if you could.
Now of course what we want to look for is the power supply. but I actually came over here. This is the power supply all in here. It looks like it lists out if you get these cables out, but this the main cable here.
it's got. It's got a little, you know, hook a catch, sing on it, but that was kind of not all the way in. it was sort of sitting out. so I'm going to bus it out.
That's all right, and that's all right. the contact is a bit. it doesn't make proper click I Expect like a click to go in there, but let's um, let's see. Hey now we talked up.
Now we're talking. Yeah, it's all over the place. that's just the input stuff on the power supply. but is that all that was preventing this thing powering up a Dicky latch on a power connector? Let's find out.
Alright, let's try it now. Hello Were those fans of worried? I'm smelling it. Hello! Hello Intel Core2duo 3 gig Whatever. Choose an operating system to start.
Ah what? Oh oh, we're in study Windows. Woohoo! Bugger password Password is password. The Agilent Keysight Joshua Nope. Woohoo we are in.
We are in. It turns out it was Agilent with a capital A I Tried took me a while I took trade all combinations of you know, Agent One, Keysight One, and all sorts of stuff. It was Agilent with a capital A So we are Butene and it's got to initialize all the Keysight software, but we should be able to get in. Wow, that actually took a while to boot, but we are in to the main control screen and you're not going to believe it.
It passes all the internal self-test vertical time base ADC Acquisition memory which is 2gig by the way is that all these models in a series I Checked have two gig of sample memory at 80 gig samples a second. By the way, the bandwidth are 32 gig halves - gosh dammit, only 16 gig when you turn on all four channels. miss scope group, whatever that is passes our self-test what I'm doing I found some female are gender changer things for the SMA so I am able to actually connect up to these things I've got the calibration output actually connected on here and I'm actually generating a for the calibration output. Ah no. I was at reset There we go. Hundred megahertz. Bingo. Bingo! So we can.
How do we do that? There we go, there we go. Unbelieveable. This thing actually works. Channel One seems to work just fine.
I Actually just did the quick jitter analysis option here and there. We're analyzing the jitter. now. What fancy pens? This thing is working like a bought one.
I Won't go through. I've gone through a similar scope before with a similar sort of interface. The interface is horrible. You would never, ever want to use this for anything but specialized our purposes.
But anyway, we can go in there put up to high 260 mega only about 536 Meg points. Wow, it's not every day you get to see two picoseconds per division. Incredible. and that is an absolutely perfect one gig.
Sine wave. Channel 1 works just perfectly I Try the others I forgot that this puppy does actually have just the auto scale button I'm not around. This scope is just horrible. Yeah, Channel 2 Channel 3 haha Channel 4 Winner winner chicken dinner I have what looks like a fully working for Channel 32 gig 80 gig sample per second to give sample memory infinium scope.
This is ridiculous. So I can only presume that somebody toss this out because that the only thing I could find wrong with up with that power that Dicky power connector which doesn't look like it latches properly in there and it might have worked its way loose or something. and but I power this thing on. it's working on all four channels I mean that's that's beautiful.
Look at that. I mean are we can turn off I've got acquisition? I've got averaging mode turned on there, but you know you can do all sorts of advanced analysis with this thing. It's absolutely. This is ridiculous.
This thing is was an absolute fortune. and check it out, it actually comes with all of these applications. I'm not sure if that's fully loaded, but look Ddr4 DisplayPort 10 Giga Ethernet you can't like? maybe read: PCI Express these things I Checked the price of the Ddr4 test out there. that is about 4000 for an hour.
Thousand dollars just for that software option now I Made a call to check like a rough price on this. This is a discontinued unit the A series. I'm not sure the latest one is Restlessness discontinued on Agilent's website, but it was like state-of-the-art not that many years ago. It's still a ridiculously powerful platform.
I've been informed that with the software options on this thing, it's about 300 thousand dollars worth if you bought it brand new. of course you know you, you couldn't sell it anywhere close to that. In fact, I wouldn't even know where to sell this. If you've got any ideas, where are you what I can possibly do with this thing? It is the find of the decade and I will give up. Let me dust a diamond. There's no point. It cannot be beat. I I can't fold it so far, but maybe there's some little subtle thing.
but if you've got an idea how I can offload this thing like you'd have to like, you can't just whack it on eBay right? You've got to sell it through some specialist company who's got the contacts for somebody who needs a bit of kit like this and then the cost of fortune just to calibrate this and absolutely fortune before anyone would bother touching it. You know, well, at any sort of reasonable you know high price companies are just nuts. like they're just like nuts, but that's chicken feed to a lot of companies that you know it's nothing. it's served its purpose and I don't know and you know it's been, probably sat in the corner gathering dust and then one day somebody powdered on that didn't work and me I tossed it.
Wow Anyway, that is the find of the decade at least. if you liked the video, please give it a big thumbs up and leave your comment down below. What I can do with this thing I Can't like what am I going to do with it like you know it's just a doorstop. Really? I Mean it's ridiculous.
If you need it, you know you need a specialist application are doing more extensive testing. but yeah, leave your comments down below. If I can do nuts, catch you next time.
Capitalism is broken ๐
Video date is 31 March for me, which means it was 1 April in Australia. Consider it a Pagan New Year present.
bro just found almost half a million dollars in the trash xD
Bullshit, learn how to use it and use it. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Great find, but wait until you go to Aquire the input probes to suit. I bought a Tektronix 7404 based on specs without knowing everything about it except it was a 4 GHz machine. The cost of getting the SMA or BNC input adaptors were hundreds of dollars and the probes cost thousands!
Early april fools lol
I guess the problem with hiding the upload date on yt videos, is that april fools videos get recirculated 6 years later. The stuff of legend I suppose
Equipment like this was used in the lab at my previous job developing SSDs at SanDisk.
It's probably still there measuring things on latest flash drives.
Play doom on it.
Just do it. It's the law!
Man, where do you work, because I want to sleep in that dumpster.
why ike flin what does it mean
One thing to consider is maybe it was bought without any sort of a warranty program and would have cost a lot to get someone to pop it open.
One manโs trash is another manโs treasure! Although an old video, you have to love the story. Love your channel too.
Now 2023 and this was suggested to me. Not until I looked at comments I noticed this was 5 years old…
Well Dave, what happened to this dumpster find?
See if SpaceX is interested ๐ค if not, order Starlink, do an antenna teardown and capture waveforms in 4 corners ๐
It's got software – so in 10+ years it will be back in the dumpster and not viable to repair; with little use daily in the meantime. I'd sell it now while it's still going good, and pay off my house and if there is any change, buy a decent analogue scope or some other test gear.
It's like owning a Mazarati, but unable to afford spare parts, plus nowhere to drive it to its full capacity or get it insured. However it's still a decent find for the rare times it happens. It's just demonstrates the throw-away mentality of today's world.
That's $10000 per GHz!
Last week I found a 20 million dollar yacht in my dumpster.๐
You absolutely CAN sell it on ebay.
please tell me you sold this for a good chunk of money…
magic dumpster,,,,
Are you sure the password isn't "Apri1f001" ?๐
it can be real !!!!!!
5k offer
People really throw away everything for minimal problems. Earth is doomed.
๐ had fun… looking your joy
Your wife let's you dig around in the trash? Wow! I found a new motorcycle still in a crate in a dumpster once… Boy was the owner of the shop mad….!
Found it in the dumpster and guessed the password, yeah right kangaroo man ๐
but can it run doom?
hmm.. maybe just give it back to the original owner.. would be a really good karma thing to do.
