How to find and inspect hidden serial UART terminal ports inside equipment.
Dave finds the uBoot Windows CE UART part in the new Keysight 1000 X-Series oscilloscope and uses the info to find some of the product mode configuration pins. A hardware hack shows that changing product configuration modes in hardware is possible.

keysight please why the actual fuck do you need like 3 or 4 jtag interfaces on a single board. they are daisy chainable …. lol

"help games" –> LOL, classic! It warmed my heart when I saw that. Even more so when Dave typed "joshua".

I purchased this Scope and let me tell you I did a Frequency Analysis on a COT control loop regulator. I got an almost exact gain and phase plot along with matching PM that matches my SIMPLIS model to the "T". Very impressed! all for the price of a little over 1k! I got the DSOX1204G!

You are lucky to be rich enough to get instruments like this. I would not risk damaging one if I was lucky enough to get it!

Why did you want especially to find the debug pins since you already knew which pins on the actual processor you wanted? Couldn't you have soldered some connectors straight to the backside of those processor pins and then probed which one was out and which one in?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars fartwhif says:

    that was an easy debugging!

I JUST REALIZED Oscilloscopes are probably good audio recording equipment!!

What do you need in good recording equipment?
    LOW NOISE!
    MULTI CHANNEL SAMPLING!(aka multi-probes)
    HIGH SAMPLE RATE!
    HIGH SPEED DATA STORAGE!
These are all things modern oscilloscopes do!!!

If the oscilloscope companies are looking for new markets to break into this is probably one and it's a broad range of products like rack mount equipment, sound cards, and audio receivers. And it's good for us because the more 'scopes made means parts are produced more frequently and lowers the price.

hi! thanks for the goood information! just one idea what came, to reduce the reflections on the pcb's shots, maybe a polarization filter on camera could help to reduce the lighting reflections. thanks Dave!

How did the oscilloscope get ASCII characters from the square waves you were measuring on the screen?
