Part 4 of the Nixie tube display project.
In this tutorial Dave walks you through a complete PCB design from begin to end, with a ton of hints and tips throughout that can be applied to any PCB layout package.

Done.
It suddenly occurs to me that, since the cathodes of the Nixies are either off or at the same HV potential, do you really need the clearance between the cathode pins and traces? Obviously you need the clearance between cathode and anode traces, but I think you'd be all right with relaxed clearance rules between multiple cathode traces, especially ones going to the same tube from the same chip, since only one would be hot and the others would be floating.
Is it possible to activate the subtitles? I mean the ones for machine translation into English.
With a little translation, you dont have to have output 1 go to pin of the tubes. Itll make the schematic messy as you have it, but you could do a little fussing around with nets.
It would be neat if both people come across this video and see their designs in use!
these vids are sensational !……..learnt shit loads, would love to see one of your layouts that made you say "fuck me I'm good"………..or maybe " that's ripper Dave"……..you get the idea
Usually, dialogs/windows will open on the last monitor that the main window was last unmaximized on.
It would be very helpful to use pin swapping in this design.
That was a fascinating watch, I've always wondered how a pro does PCB layout and picked up a ton of awesome tips.
Part 1-3 are deleted/private 🙁
its cheating. I usually got manually net, or sometimes got erorr when do change in schematic and import change to pcb… How it is happen? what sorcery is this?
英语不好真尴尬
I wonder if we're ever going to see this project finished?
What happened to this project ????
It's been over a month….
Now i know what rbutr is, but i don't understand a thing about PCB Layout , not my fault, 'cause I'm working with 3ds max and my brain can't handle more data, so i can't learn how to work on PCB right now… but someday 😀
The nice render of the nixie tube was ray-traced. It probably took a few minutes for one frame.
You won't get that look in real-time , unless you "bake" (precompute) a lot of stuff and use an advanced real-time renderer, like in the top video game titles.
Not something PCB design software would have…
Have you used SPICE and / or P-SPICE?
This was really great Dave, thanks 🙂
dave, i think you can still move locked components if they are selected and you use the directional keys. don't ask how i know…
Apologies: I was mistaken when I reported top/bot surface swap. I like that the datasheet view has the pins numbered like clock face hours.
