Done.
Love your circuit analysis of this equipment. Very entertaining AND enlightening! ๐ ๐
thinkpad still makes the nipple today
"All the best stuff's made in Japan!"
Hard agree. Anime came from them trying to imitate Disney and accidentally being a trillion times better, all the good cheap electronics are from there, every single one of my Japanese friends is super nice and incredibly hot (even the guys… ESPECIALLY the guys), and I'm not even much of a pistonhead but I know the Japanese car and bousouzoku scene is legendary.
We should probably just glass every country that isn't Japan and let them start over without us holding them back.
I've only started to go back through all these older videos, and there's such good stuff! Definitely getting that poster printed. The Flickr account has a 6K image.. I think that'll do just fine
"That's not a knife; this is a knife!" :- Crocodile Dundee!!
thats not a knife thats a machete
Looks like whoever repaired that voice box didn't give a flux.
where do I get a crocodile knife like yours :}
How many fans and other accessories do you salvage from these old notebooks and other stuff ?

It was normal back in the days to have the center as a negative pole. I don't know the exact time, but some at time down the road change that, so the centerpiece turned positive.
Btw. the nipples in the keyboard are still beeing made till today ๐
for example the Lenovo Thinkpads do have them
my dymo label maker is 24v center neg, and no it wont work with a 19v laptop supply…..(till modified)
Concerning that RF Repeater…if it is anything like an Amateur Radio repeater, one side is the receiver and the other is the transmitter. ( As an example, the RX might be tuned to say 146.28 Mhz and the TX would transmit on 146.88 Mhz. ) Not sure about the wedge in between the two sides either…maybe they wanted to be sure of sufficient heat transfer?
Center negative should be banned.
Arduino mini *shield thing
That cannon laptop with inkjet printer, ideal for technicians.
You do the job and print out the report.
In the early 90's it was quite a big job asking the client to print a document, It often could take more to get a print of the report than to do the job itself.
it wasn't like today:
1. could you print the pdf from this USB key?
2. I've sent you a pdf via email, could you please print it for me?
I got myself a small Cannon BJC-55 printer, expensive solution but worked fine before I got fed up for the price of the cartridges.
I've seen many nixie clocks but never a nixie terminal. You could watch star trek on nixie tubes for the first time. ( towel.blinkenlights.nl:23)
Megger calibration destroyed by Dave?why?
I used to carry an early laptop (or "luggable")PC along with a tiny Kodak battery powered printer when I went out of town, which was often. I would meet with people to deal with problems,, work out solutions, then go back to my hotel room and build overheard projector presentations for the next day's meetings. That machine would have simplified my life to some degree.
Nixie tube project – I suggest a water clock with a digital nixie display counting the water drops disciplined by a GPS signal of either 1pps or divided 1 or 10MHz. To change the water drop speed add a small plunger to change the depth of the water drop tube or some other method to make it accurate. Maybe even use Lady Heather program run on an Arduino or similar program and have the 10MHz output as a bonus.
Some modern IBM and Lenovo laptops like the Lenovo thinkpad p50 still have the "nipple". Absolute must have for me when buying a new PC.
