this is a ols 8×4 docis 2(and combatible docsis3) cable modem. most cable provider wont accept to activate this modem with speed profile over 60megabytes. (because it can reach a max 340 only if alone on all frequencies in the node)

Somebody may have noted this before but the ZX81 was sold (as kit and pre-assembled) in the US for a year or so before the Timex deal. I got the kit when I was a wee sprout and my dad helped put it together. Still have it, too. It was terrible tho.

Maybe that ZX81 was a kit, which might explain the assembly.

In 1981 or so pretty much every consumer thing meant to display on a TV used an RF adapter connected to the antenna input of a TV. At least that's how it was in the US. I don't think composite inputs really took off for US TVs until VCRs and camcorders became widespread.

the ram packs(expansion), were sold in 16k, 32k, and even 96k.
you dont need any components to do the composite mod you can wire a phono jack direct into the modulator box(videos on youtube), that trick works on all sinclairs speccy etc, the zx80 needs a transistor a diode and a couple of resistors, maybe thats where the confusion comes from. that thermometer would be great for rework, where you need to monitor different parts of the board.

Constantly ridiculing kit / tools / products which you regard as being beneath you, says more about you Dave, than it does about the item(s) you've just assessed.
    Not attractive.

IIRC, the T/S1K had 2K RAM, my ZX81 only 1K. Didn't matter, just about everyone got the 16K RAM pack, which squashed all over the internal RAM (you didn't get 17K or 18K). I think the big difference was, $99 kit, $149 assembled, (virtually) all the other players were $800 or more. So that's why it was my first personally owned computer, affordability.

ZX81: I suspect the resistors were stood off the board because it was the kit version build by someone who appreciates Audiofool amplifiers.

That thing with the Arris branding is an ADSL router with telephony. I know, I have a more slimmer, stylish one by the same manufacturer. That thing with the five pins is meant for a big chunky battery.

F-type goes in, ADSL 8P8C and RJ-45 6P6C goes out. Neat to have also with it are F-type push plugs

An arris tg862 modem/router/"wifi" One of the worst designed products from arris ever. Absolute garbage.
