Who else in the industry can give you 52 solid minutes of beginner advice on buying a multimeter?
Dave of course!, who started out wanting to give some "quick" advice, but as usual Dave likes to rant...
So you get a feature-by-feature breakdown on what makes a good general purpose multimeter. It turns out there is a surprising amount of stuff to talk about on the humble multimeter.
The other video on meter counts & accuracy:

And this is what happens to cheap meters when you overload them:

I'm at beginner level. I bought a AstroAI DM6000AR . I didn't use it often. The last time I used it was for some extremely low dc voltage item. Almost a year went by before I used it again. When I did, when I turn it on, it has this continuous beeping sound going on. I looked into that and found that its fuses were blown to cause that effect. Don't know how that happens.
do you know of one that has 20 amp test circuit?
So sad. He made the dumb ass click bait facial expression. He gave in. So long pall.
Thank you!

Please please we want an updated video, with newer options
Hello Dave! I love your videos and watched all of them but I have a tight budget. I'm a tech teacher (in a high school) and generally working with dc. Also have a 3 phase in my life (wood works). In my country fluke 107 and unit ut195e are same price maybe unit ut195e 5 dollars cheaper. Which one do you recommend? Yes I know, they are totally different in functions 🙁 I want to have a multimeter which is precise up to 150v dc and 650v ac, and secure … This is my top budget and only two option with same price in my country. I want an opinion, please help me 🙁
Ouh goods
Wow!
🙏Namaste from India. Dave as always you are awesome!!
A great video! It's really extensive into details that really helps me, a layman in this subject, to understand how to choose a good multimeter . Thanks!
Wasn't this guy in Smiling friends
I can feel your pain. Most likely, you went through many of the issues of badly designed multimeters and maybe even burned up a few circuits because of a crappy multimeter. Still, I will buy a cheap multimeter because I cannot afford an expensive one; electronics as a hobby is already so expensive, especially living in a country with a VAT of 21%. So, this video will be helpful to find something usable among those budget multimeters by UNI-T, aneng, mastech.
Does Mastech make good meters??
it would be nice if the fluke tester was sold cheap, for memories🙂
"Probably going to be guaranteed it's a heap of shit." 😂
Hi Sir I've not long brought A DIGITECH Technician Economy True RMS Autorange CAT NO QM1321 Multimeter Tester with a Lifetime Guarantee Warranty & has a special NCV, & when you switch the Multimeter Tester to NCV & also has a sensor on top of the Multimeter Tester & so I can go on to the switch or even go up to wall & picked power behind walls & the the Multimeter Tester picks up the power mains beeps with a big red light Flashes &.I'm really pleased what this DIGITECH Technician Economy True RMS Autorange Cat no QM1321 Multimeter Tester & I did look at the Fluke Multimeter Testers but they are by far way too expensive & wat out of my price Range & that's why I brought this Multimeter Tester & has great Specifications & I'm so Happy with this Multimeter Tester & Sir you have a Lovely Nice Day ot or A Lovely Nice good Night Kind Regards Peter
Learned a lot. Thanks. This is really appreciated and showed me what to look for and how to judge a meter.
Best video I've ever seen on meters. Wish I've seen it earlier in my life. I was questioning the accuracy of a meter I'm looking to buy. It's a 6000 count +-6 digits at 0.6% fm DC voltage at 0.1 to 600v or 1v to 1000v. It has me really confused because the digit count throws off the calculation of the chart in the video.
Now in 2022 you can buy one that will talk to you for $20
Wow, so much info and everything makes sense. Good that i didn't bought that $5 yesterday and decided to do some more study before buying one. Thnks for all the effort you put in for this video, really helpful.
