Dave exposes the global White Van Speaker Scam and tears down a Marc Vincent Surround Sound Receiver, one of the items sold in Australia through this scam.
How crap is it?, watch and find out!
Also a 3D Optics HD-8500 projector that is also sold as part of the scam that involves the absolute cheapest quality parts sold under fake brands at grossly inflated prices from literally the back of a van.
A Current Affair Exposé of the scam in Australia, and the Marc Vincent brand in particular:

Not to be confused with the real Mark Vincent (note the spelling) who won Australia's Got Talent.

They made bank a few years ago going around college campuses. But since I’m an actual electrical engineer with audio engineering as my niche I took them in a hell of a ride for a few hours.

Omg, the magnet size of the sub!!!

Next time try finding a Marantz or a B&O in a dumpster. Might last a bit finding one but as well worth trying.

An amplifier with a built-in subwoofer. I want to meet the guy who pitched this thing

I think the caps are probably legit they were most likely recycled off E Waste from the USA that was shipped to China for recycling then repurposed for hot garbage like your holding!

2023 and this is still my favourite EEVblog video.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ott3rman says:

To much mocking, to much repeating the issue, and too little factual explaination of what and why everything sucks. No doubt it is a piece of shait electronics. Those soldering point make my hairs stand up… Well, this video was not for me I guess.

    Ye

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Carl Williams says:

Your projector looks like typical white label cheap supermarket shit – "HD Ready" is, in the UK, an industry standard phrase meaning "not HD, not at all, but it will down-sample an HD input".

The Marc Vincent thing looks like what Alan Sugar used to sell in the UK under his Amstrad brand, before he was Sir Alan Sugar; he described these kind of products as a "mug's eyeful" – looks vaguely similar to what you might think a good one would look like, but is the absolute shittest possible quality. Your Marc Vincent is slightly worse than Amstrad's stuff because it's clearly not even remotely standards compliant on the mains side – I guess that's the upside of the rented van vs the fixed trading address, from the scammer's perspective.

Got scammed when I was around 20y old for $600 by the "white van speaker scam". It was the best thing that could have happened to me. It made me a skeptical person from then on and helped me start down the path of Electrical Engineering, Physics and math. I consider that loss of $600 a payment in toward higher education.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bryan Draughn says:

There's components with reputable brand names that are barely better.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary G says:

Spell scam backwards and you get macs. 😳
    Mac / apple computers? 😲 😆

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian says:

It would’ve been fun to see a stress test on the old Marc vincent receiver. See what it takes to release the magic smoke.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JN / The Passenger says:

Honestly, more than the Mark Vincent from Australia’s Got Talent, I’d say Marc Vincent sounds like it’s trying to be “Mark Levinson” because they do a lot of sound systems for Lexus and they generally sound great.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dr. House says:

This are Class-D. So the Heatsink shoud be sufficient.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars FCWW says:

My freshmen year at college I got “white van scammed.” He had these killer speakers for a “steal.” Gave him $180, he gave me two five foot tall speakers that sounded like the speakers in my first car. Oh, and my first car was a 1990 ford festiva. So, I got got.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Si Voltage says:

Hahaha! it beggars belief how much work someone will put in to even building this junk.
I wonder where they source the parts and how big the outfit is who put this crap together lol.
    Great video made me laugh!

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Woody's Geek Channel says:

There was a skit on a show called" in living color" about white van sales…funny as hell. look it up

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Art Gale says:

Again..no damping for sub…NOT a problem if only lowest frequencies…there is no midrange to absorb.
Then..the dust cap off and no comment on the tiny voice coil?
    Yeah, no…im out

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Art Gale says:

Be more impressive if you didnt laugh and condemn 100% of everything….at times without cause.
