Hi guys, Yes, it's night time and it's another nighttime Dum dumpster dive and check out what? I got somebody has left this puppy down here. it's a HP LaserJet 3700 I have no idea uh, the specs of it or if it's any good, but it looks, you know, looks like a pretty decent uh color printer. So I might NAB that take it back to the Uh lab and give it a b and there's some sort of big rack instrument on top. No idea what that is I'll have to.
uh, have to check that out. Okay I just powered the thing up and it said it had 64 Meg of memory and it is. uh, it is. Boo in it's a big beast I mean this thing is bloody heavy I don't know how much it weighs like 60 kilos or something I don't know, it's A.
It is a big beast. It's obviously designed for really high volume, uh, high volume printing that's for sure. Gee, not exactly. This is one of these printers that you don't just you know, like 10c warm 5sec warm up.
You turn it on and boom you're ready to print. I Don't think this thing is designed to stay on all day long? Oh there you go. There you go. The black is, uh, there's a lot of black left.
Awesome. So it's ready. There you go. So I'll uh here we go.
I'll show you inside. Oh yeah, look at that. It's uh, supposed to drop down the lid on that, but it didn't and uh, there's yeah, there's like evidence of toner everywhere on this thing and if we open open that up, you can see toner on the top of that drum. I'm not sure if that's normal or not.
I don't know how much replacement cartridges for this would cost or even if you can actually get like really cheap third party replacement, you probably can. Um, you can at least for the lowend printers I'm not sure how highend this one is or how old it is. It's not really new because, um, it doesn't have a networking on the back. It's only got uh, USB and uh, old centronics.
so hey, if it works I don't know where I'd put it. it's absolutely enormous I've just got a I'll show you the one I've got at the moment at the moment, all I've got is this, uh, brother HL 3045 CN and well, it's um, it, it's doing. It's kind of holding in there for printing my invoices like thousands of uh uh, labels and stuff now, but it's really getting some uh, crap on the drum. and I tried the drum cleaning on it and uh, well, no, that doesn't work.
so I'm getting spots all over my image I might have to. uh, maybe there's a better way to clean it I don't know, but yeah, the other one would take up a bit more d space in this one I suspect I Accidentally told it to print the menu map, but anyway, it's trying to print something. It did detect that I put plain A4 paper in there so that, uh, it's something's coming out. something's coming out.
It's got some toner over it, but oh look. Winner winner chicken dinner. Look at that. that looks beautiful.
Yeah, the cartridges are all okay. That's fine. It's printed in color. Holy crap, we have a winner here folks.
Print Usage page: Let's see how much usage this sucker has had. It's not particularly quick either, but um, you know, hey, I'll take it. Not sure how much it's worth I don't know how much can you pick these up for an eBay Got no idea, but here we go. Um A4 it's only got an A4 uh tray. By the way, it doesn't have an A3 tray. this um, one here is just external uh feed. so maybe you can get add-on uh, ones that sit on the bottom I'm not so sure, but it's paper p 66 Oh Mono. There we go.
18,000 mono pages 48,00 ,50 color pages. Is that a lot for 66,000 pages? I Don't know. But yeah, there we go. 69,000 Pages total.
There we go. So yeah, it doesn't sound like a huge amount for a big uh office. Um, sort of. You know, big big professional printer like this.
Okay, I'm going to print the demo. don't know what that is. What does it? print? A nice fancy color, uh, photo or something. Or maybe like a test, uh, pattern or something like that color calibration test pattern.
but this is I mean it looks really good. There's no, uh, excess toner on the page or anything. So there we go. that popped out.
Oh look at that. Look at that hello Wow. Look at the color in that that looks stunning. That is fantastic I Love it.
That is just gorgeous. Look at that that is Miles Ahead of my crappy little uh brother W that cost you know what? 150 bucks or something? I don't know it was like bottom of the range but that is that is magnificent. Wow! I have certainly scored an absolute winner here. I mean I haven't hooked out the PC yet? Um, I will do that, but I'm going to assume that well, there's you know if it prints, then you'd be pretty darn unlucky not to have it.
um, work. Uh, when it hooks up to the USB So there you go. Beauty Another awesome dumpster dive. and if you're curious to know what this rack thing was, well, it's some sort of rack mount PC like a you know, server type.
uh thing. not much in it, but there is a main board and uh, the reason I nabbed it is because well, it's got USB 3 and um, you know, 6 gbits per second s it's it's reasonably modern. I would presume it's only got a stock in Intel fan on it. so I'm not sure what Intel process is.
Somebody's nicked the power supply. So like you know, here, there's a Main's cable coming in like that. so somebody's nicked that. but hey, um, you know, maybe um, I could reuse the motherboard in a better shazzy.
Of course, is that a I'm not. Uh, sure. Off hand, is that a standard uh, looks like a standard format motherboard. But yeah, I mean there's no memory in it.
But anyway, it's a gigabyte? No, it's an Isus 7 P 550. LX I don't know. Sounds a bit oldish. uh.
turbo V technology. what's on the back? Let's have a look. sorry I can't see this. uh USB 3 external S no integrated video though.
So oh well. but uh yeah. I don't know. Probably have to get a separate power supply and power that up. Um, at the very least, rip off that and uh, see what processor in there I might do that now. actually sorry, you can't see that very well, but that is a core I7 Beauty um not sure which I7 870 is it? I'm not. anyway. I'm not sure I'd have to, uh, look up the particular part number for that one 2.93 gig.
Um, anyway, a core I7 is no slouch, so I'm assuming that that sucker works I have no idea why they tossed it out, but uh, you know it's got PCI it's got four P five PCI slots on the thing USB 3 core I7 processor. Geez, I'll just I can just whack that in a case assuming it works and put a power supply on it and some memory and uh, and a better heat sink of course. and well, that could make a better live streaming. Uh PC cuz I was looking at getting one so wow yeah I'll take that so that's not bad for today's dumpster diving.
Haven't had a decent uh dumpster dive in a while, but a fully working color laser. You know, high-end printer like that even though it's quite old. um I'm assum. Well I hope I can get Windows 7 drivers for it anyway.
Um, but it works. a treat and a uh core I7 motherboard I'll take that any day of the week. Um yeah, no idea why they tossed it out, but n there you go, Not too bad. Dumpster Dive wins again.
Catch you next time.
you can get ethernet on that 3700 with a jetdirect and is that thing for sale?
I wonder why that printer was thrown away? Because it has no network?
Holy crap who throws out a board that nice with a Core i7 in it?? Its pretty hard to get Core 2 Duos or even P4s for free where I live
Dave im in need of a gaming motherboare and this one in the end of the video is perfect for the old style gaming i am getting back in to i would love it you could contact me explosivegamer1020 i will pay a pretty penny if needed… Thx explosivegamer1020
Damn you and your free i7's!
same model printer as in my school
Why people trash things like this? I mean, they are in good working order!
Intel's website says that box price of that CPU is 305 USD!!! Nice score!
"I don't know, sounds a bit.. oldish…" Sata 6GB/s and USB 3.0 sounds old? =P
yay your lucky i want to stele everting in there and take it apart
That i7 870 is better than the 860 I'm using right now!
Damn, where do you find these things?
your lab reminds me of Dexter's laboratory 🙂
You probably already know. The duty cycle per month on the 3600 is ~ 50,000 pages.
The 3700 you just found is at ~ 55,000 I can't confirm but I also think the resolution is better on the 3700. Thanks to your D. Dive I am keeping mine even though I broke the ETB. and will look for one or two 3700s. Thanks Dave keep up the good work. Maybe one of these days you can do a tear down of a built in GPS from a car. My GPS in my 2004 Acura is giving me problems. I want to reverse engineer it however It controls the enviromental controls as well. Perhaps I can do it on a holiday weekend with two vacation days to spare. Cheers and thanks for all the good vids.
Do more dumpster diving! I love it !
Its amazing what people throw away, I have found so much good stuff over the years, trouble is you start to run out of space in your house and become a hoarder. Nice interesting channel mate, we seem to have very similar interests,I will have a good look at your other videos when I have more time.
I would kill for that mobo.
My previous gaming pc had that exact motherboard 🙂
lucky fuk lol i7 server
That is a seriously decent color print! I had a newer, similar sized HP at my old job and it didn't do half that good! Very nice find.
thats good, usb3 is modern, although i didnt see a graphics card slot (on and untrained eye) on there but depending on what your wanting it for it MAY come to some use
Great find.
I have one of these (3550n though) that I bought in 2004 at a discount price of $500. Its been running like a champ for 10 years.
I have NEVER regretted a laser printer purchase ever. The tonar usually costs like a hundred bucks to replace but they last forever. When you take into account the amount of money you spend cumulatively on inkjets, inkjets are a ripoff. For medium quality printing I'll never go back to inkjet.
HP 3700 black is $150.00 USD color all three $193.00 USD 600×600 dpi new $460.00 USD
was christmas at Davez???? Recently you assembled a Core I7 for video editing! ……. !! That laser printer was AWEEEESOMEEEEE UHUUU…. Congrats Dave. on these….
You can turn the computer (and the Core 2 Duo) into your rendering farm. Three machines can give you at least a 2x speed boost in rendering.
looked like a nice tower sitting beside the printer at the dump site
