Hey Dave! I found it quite interesting that what you guys call a "Field Day" there is what we call here in the USA "Hamfest" instead. For hams here, "Field Day" is, well, this quote from Wickipedia probably says it better "Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise, widely sponsored by IARU regions and member organizations, encouraging emergency communications preparedness[citation needed] among amateur radio operators. In the United States, it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country, with over 30,000 operators participating each year. Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday and running through 2059 UTC Sunday.
Since the first ARRL Field Day in 1933, radio amateurs throughout North America have practiced the rapid deployment of radio communications equipment in environments ranging from operations under tents in remote areas to operations inside Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs). Operations using emergency and alternative power sources are highly encouraged, since electricity and other public infrastructures are often among the first to fail during a natural disaster or severe weather.
To determine the effectiveness of the exercise and of each participant's operations, there is an integrated contesting component, and many clubs also engage in concurrent leisure activities (camping out, cookouts, etc.). Operations typically last a continuous twenty-four hours, requiring scheduled relief operators to keep stations on the air. Additional contest points are awarded for experimenting with unusual modes, making contacts via satellite, and involving youth in the activity."
I was in wyong in this year, many Friends from the club VK2BV rosebay show me many things.I will say thanks a lot for this wonderfull time .specail thanks to VK2NQ and VK2RF Brian and Rafi…….73 DH7TB Hans

Are you a ham yet, Dave?
Dayton is just a couple of weeks away.
I worked at this field day back around 2000 when I was a salesperson for Dick Smith Electronics. Back then we went to a lot of trouble to set up a temporary store at the racecourse with our point of sale systems, receipt printers and so on. Dick Smith (the person) would land his helicopter in the middle of the racecourse and wander around the show, but I don't remember him visiting our store since he had no affiliation with the company.
jeez dave XD, talk to more people to share some knowledge
Excellent video! I havn't been to a HAMfest in years, brings back some good memories 🙂
And they call Americans Fat!
it's the eevblog guy
we use the same wireless fluke kits, great for having three current levels and voltage all on the same remote meter for the TA to punch into the ipad….
does anyone know if there is anything like this in SA?
Great video Dave! Here in the US, a large electronic distributor FRY's were blowing out brand new TDS 220 scopes for $49.00, if you were lucky enough to get one. They went pretty fast.
Hamfests are the same the world over! Best deals are always in the parking lot!
Zooms in on guy and starts saying to the camera "Yeah, he's definitely a home brew guy!" lol!
It may be a public place and legal to film whom ever, but I think you should use just a little decorum when commenting "live" on a video, knowing you, you may well have pre planed it with them, but still if we don't get the in joke, we may assume it was seriously intended and maybe offencive.
Don't forget you have a huge number of subs, so anyone filmed would get more views from us types/piers than if they where on generic international news.
Whine over.
I was in the Darlek creators house this week to pick up a washing machine and such like. Maybe it's only when you buy a type of car that you notice them everywhere, but I have seen darleks and DR Who every where for the last month in random videos and conversations, strange and peculiar is the human brain.
You whizzed past all the most interesting stuff. This video was like following a woman around my local ham/computer fair. You didn't actually bother to stop and talk to any of the people selling things or ask them about it.
