Dave shows off the latest neuroelectronics project he's been working on.
Hi welcome to the Eev blog an Electronics engineering video blog of interest to anyone involved in electronics design. I'm your host Dave Jones Hi As you might know I've been working on a big side project for quite a few months now and I haven't really told many people about it, but now I'm super excited cuz I've finally got my first prototype back and I'm ready to show it off. It came out of the thermal oven a couple of weeks ago I've been tweaking it for a little bit and it's ready to show off now. Uh, this is a completely designed and assembled in Australia product.
complete leadfree process and I'm happy to say it's completely wife approved. Completely wife approved project. Can you believe it? She even lets me get up in the middle of the night and Tinker with this thing? What is it? Here it is. Check it out! Super cool! I Call it Project Sean Check it out.
Isn't it awesome? Aome It's my first neuro electronic project. It's just great. What a beauty! It's in a partial sleep mode at the moment, so it doesn't really, uh, do much. Now this one's actually quite a small and lightweight uh project for these type of neuro electronic systems.
Um, this one weighs in at about just under uh 2 and 1/2 kilos when it came off the factory line. So really, it's um, quite small and that's 5. 7 for you us folk who can't work in kilos. Oops.
I Think the power supply is starting to hiccup. It just woke up out of sleep mode just randomly and the power supply is going. You know what that means? Time to get the scope out. Now this is just the first Hardware prototype.
The firmware is going to need a lot of work. In fact, it might take a year or two just to get a hollow World program running. It's crazy. All it does at the moment is just Mak make a rather annoying squawking sound like a bad continuity buzzer, and then it just goes into sleep mode.
And worse than that, it just randomly works up from sleep mode. Sleep timer doesn't work at all. Completely broken. Now the problem with Neuro Electronics projects like this is that you're locked into it.
Once you start it, you absolutely locked in. And you can't just respin the design. You have to just keep tweaking the prototype for years and years until it becomes usable. And this isn't one of those projects that just dissipates into the ether when the R&D funding runs out or management changes Direction you're stuck with it now.
One of the more annoying aspects of these projects is that you get former company CEOs dropping in all the time to offer advice on how they ran their project back in their day. Well, quite frankly, technology has advanced a lot since then. I've got it covered. Thanks! Anyway, I've really got to work on the power consumption of this thing.
It shoes through a set of batteries about every 3 hours and that's whether or not it's in sleep mode. Crazy Now ordinarily I'd Open sourer project, but this one just started as a random doodle in Dave Cad and uh, really? to, uh, reverse engineer this now at this stage and get a full sequence of it and the schematic. Well, that's rather expensive to do so you're just going to have to make your own from scratch. They're pretty easy and they're free. All the instructions are out there now. I've tried debugging this thing, but quite frankly the probes just don't stay attached properly and all I read out is gibberish anyway. So if you know of any good books on the subject for debugging these neuro Electronics projects, let me know and don't even ask how much this Project's cost already and going to cost in the future, don't even want to think about it. Keep those donations rolling in Really please.
helps a lot now. This is what I've been spending all my time on lately. and if you see the blogs drop off in the future, you know what I'm working on. See you, wait, Byebye! It's time to ENT Sleep Mode Sleep Mode Want Mommy to put you into sleep mode? Okay, Oh I think it's sleep.
Sleep time. Is it Sleep time? Sleep time? Little? Sean Yay! Oh he's got the hiccups and he was just a bit Yeah Kids and animals go figure. You made a mess didn't you? Come on, let tidy up.
This is so good <3
Good job on the R&D =)
It's just too sad to already know his name 😀
Not a chance it's already 9 years ago…
I personally like "project moses"
david, you are awesome.
Literally the best…you rock Dave
This deserves WAY more than 27k views!
such a old video
for a moment during the video i thought maybe you truly believe that your children are actual electronic projects and not children. scary. lol
And now he's got a brother! Amazing! 😀
When it comes to tributes, I couldn't imagine a better person to name him after. 🙂
Make sure it runs the proper OS with the latest version.
a random doodling Dave cad……. with the short pencil I bet 🙂
I must say that your wife did some pretty cool engineering there 🙂
cool
don't turn it on,
take it apart!!!!
that was awsome
That's just wonderful. Yes, I'm late to the show, but I only found out about your BLOG a couple of weeks ago and am catching up.
Congrats dude – belated – but congrats.
I have two of those, different versions but the assembly was all the same,
although i cant get used to the smell of blown selenium rectifier in the rear compartment, i preferably leave the removal of the leaked organic compound to my wife.
I'm glad it isn't a teardown episode.
Print "Hello Word"; hahahaha 1 year to print
