It's EPIC FAIL time.
There is one thing Dave hates worse than bad product design, and that's ironically bad product design.
What's have HTC done to make him want to do a facepalm?

Hi. If you know me, you know there's one thing that I really hate. and that's bad product design. But there's one thing I hate.
Even worse than that, and that's ironically bad product design now. I Found a classic example of this in my new HTC Desire phone. It's not a bad phone I Don't mind it at all. but I Found a really ironically bad design feature.
Let's check it out. HTC's slogan for this phones is quietly brilliant. So I thought I'd Check that out I Got my sound level meter here. Let's see if these things really are quiet.
All right, Let's give it a go, shall we? Let's switch it on and watch this crazy look. It's as soon as the word quietly brilliant comes up. There's the slogan HTC quietly brilliant. Soon as the word quietly pops up the thing Peaks at about 70 DB and goes T How ironically bad.
Why can't the thing just shut the hell up? Unbelievable. It's the HTC company slogan quietly brilliant. Did nobody in the design Department realize that that's just massive mistake to make it to program it in so when it boots up, it goes Tada at 70 or 80 DB when it displays quietly brilliant. Heaven forbid did nobody in the marketing department realize that's just an epic fail.
Unbelievable. Hey HTC Here's a dollar. Go and buy yourself a clue.
I had the phone for years and that sound was truly annoying. Somehow I still managed to never spot the joke! Aside, interestingly YouTube has started pushing me recommendations to these very old videos from you. I wonder if it's a change on the recommendation engine or if it's due to me having little time to watch YouTube lately? I've also had a bunch of music I've listened to 8-10 years ago recommended.
My first time I disliked Dave's video, IIRC
This is a "joke" we were laughing at while stoned for years 🙂 together with the Techno Heights Company (THC) spelled wrong 🙂
I had an HTC incredible at one point, and it didn't have a boot sound so I never had this problem. 😉
I dare say Mr. EEVblog was being "sarcastic" in this video.
I used to love my HTC Desire until you pushed it and it rebooted. There were rooted firmware that switched of that assault to the ears.
That is one problem with most Android phones that I hate (NOT JUST HTC!), the simple remedy for this, turn the volume down before power cycling your device… Surprised nobody has ever made this correlation…
Granted, it has been ~4 years since this was posted, the problem still persists!!! Unbelievable.
The inability to turn off noises that are either useless or harmful is definitely a pet peeve of mine. I have a Galaxy S5, and I have a fun problem. When I go to bed at night, I like to hook it up to the charger. I have three choices:
1) I can connect it to the charger, but risk waking my wife up with the huge "BONG!" it makes when hooked up to a charger.
1) I can disable the sounds, but then it won't wake me up if I receive an urgent message during the night.
2) I can leave it off the charger and then it won't have enough charge to make it through the next day.
Try the htc thunderbolt. The sound is a freaking lightning strike.
I think almost every stock rom on every smartphone makes obnoxious noise when you turn it on, use the camera, turn it off, or press buttons. Want to fix it? Get a custom rom, don't whine on another video.
Lol the HTC thunderbolt is the worst
I have GS4 from att has a similar boot up logo slogan noise that DRIVES ME CRAZY. Your criticism of HTC had me on the floor laughing!
Love it. for $1, buy yourself a clue, Perfect
this is first time that i see the DAVE do a FAIL, and even film it
i phone 5 starts without so much as a peep. its fast too.
First I'd like to point out that only 10% of world population has English for mother tongue (not me). Others may not see the subtle difference. Anyway, if I read the definition of "quietly" from there ldoceonline I get "quietly confident: fairly confident of success, but without talking proudly about it". Now tell me how the loud "TA-DA" is compatible with " without talking proudly about it"… BTW, the white screen is annoying and worse drains the battery on OLED displays for nothing…
Phones should generally just shut the hell up… Gay notifications for stuff I know I did anyway.
One of my previous phones (a Sony Ericsson W910i) used to play a little tune when you turned it OFF! What were they thinking? The only reason I turned it off was to stop it making a noise! Even vibrate is too noisy in some circumstances.
*gave it thumbs up*
'WELL SAID' EEVblog 'Ive ot the exact same phone and ive got used to sticking my phone under the cushion's on the sofa until that 'Quietly Brilliant-SCREAM' is over, its the most annoying feature of any phone ive ever owned? and ive had quite a few 'dog n'bones' over the years? Although the phone itself is SO SPLENDIFEROUSLY SUPERB,SUPERDOOPEREXPIALIDOSHIOUS!,SPECTACULAR,SUBLIME,SSUPERIOUR,or to sum it up its the Dogs Bollocks of super phones- Peace n luv 2 yall!
