Dave cuts loose on the dickhead marketing team at Dyson.
Of course it's got zero carbon emissions!
Of course it's got zero carbon emissions!
Hi Welcome to the Eev blog an Electronics Engineering Video blog of interest to anyone involved in electronics design. I'm your host Dave Jones Hi I've been shopping and check out what I got. I' got all of these funky looking Dyson super powerful handheld vacuum cleaners. Check it out.
Real funky looking I Love it and the technology in it. Look at this. Dyson Digital motor right? Sounds fantastic. 104,000 RPM uh.
It's got a neodymium magnet. Fantastic. It's got a compressor fan. No carbon brushes.
Oh, check it out. Look at that. all the technology in it. Oh, it's pushing all my nerdy buttons right.
and then I Read this: no Carbon brushes means Zero Carbon emissions. You've got to be me. Zero Carbon emissions. They clearly trying to associate carbon brushes with carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions.
It's marketing, wank and look, they obviously mean they really mean carbon dust, not carbon dioxide emissions. cuz look on the side here. here's Mr James Dyson himself. There he is and this is what he says.
Electric motors haven't changed in nearly 120 years. They are unreliable and emit carbon dust. There it is. they admit it's actually carbon dust.
Our digital motor is half the size and has no emissions. There you go. So they're actually what they mean is that you know all most electric motors out there have traditionally have carbon brushes and they you know they generate carbon dust which um uh increases the wear and tear on the motor, decreases life and all that sort of stuff. So this is great.
But marketing have got hold of this and have clearly this is why I Hate marketing Everyone knows I hate marketing. This is why cuz they take a wank word or a wank concept and then they just extend it beyond all proportions and suck people into thinking that they're saving the planet with this thing are it must generate greenhouse gas emissions cuz that's what Joe public is going to think when they buy this and they read zero Carbon Emissions because we're all so used to hearing that term zero carbon emissions and how that's bad for the planet. Global warming, Carbon dioxide, yada, yada yada right? Save the planet and God Dyson what are you doing Shame Dyson shame I'll give you just one guess where I want to shove this sucker.
Apparently this is 11 Years ago.
Brushless Small DC or AC Motors are Good Stuff for Many Applications.
However the Age Old DC Commutator and Carbon Brush Motors are Still Great Motors or Motor Generators.
Dyson is Getting a Bit Carried Away.
Plus the Price and Performance of Their Vacs is the Main Thing to Focus on.
EEVBlog, Can You take a Look at Modern Light Lamps and Fittings.
Many Don't Last 12 Months or One Summer/Winter Cycle.
Paid 23$ for a Lamp the other Day. I mentioned to Sales Staff, it Should come with a Warranty.
Did Not Last 12 Months.
Where do you even start with this shit! Dave… Dyson signed off on that bullshit so marketing are not fully to blame. Also digital motor, wtf is that? I guess the switch acts as a binary, I assume they mean BLDC motor. Jeez Louise this is just bad ju ju
Guess what ad I got pre-video
i mean the vacuum's not emitting any carbon
Jimmy Dyson assumes everyone is an idiot.
"Bullshitter with honours" is what I call him.
Thanks Dave for showing.
I hate marketing
I wonder we'll see some stupid "ecological" protest against brushes motors after few years.
Dave that's funny. I know I can't believe it to.
That is a marketing mega wank. To top it off, it's kinda expensive and looks like a cheap plastic toy.
I've never heard of any one complain of carbon dust deposits from brushed motors before, and motor brush ware is generally so small its not an issue as the brushes usually out live the life of most consumer products anyway. It's clearly intended to mislead the public and therefor is false advertising.
With the Dyson brand in general I have to laugh at their "suction plots". These show a straight horizontal line for the Dyson (indicating no loss of suction over time) with a traditional vacuum cleaner which has a line dropping to near zero over the same time period. What they don't show is the fact that the Dyson STARTS half way down the suction curve for a traditional cleaner – which is for half the time (approx.) more powerful.
blast processing.
A pencil has more carbon EMISSION
This just doesn't stop cracking me up after all those years. It's hard to believe 2010 was 8 years ago.
CO2 is not even a pollutant …..haha and man made global warming is a myth …..it's a triple marketing whammy !
Long overdue.
Dyson is a rich man because he gets you to think you want what he is making because he is really smart.
Eh.
Dyson overpriced overrated and over here.
You are hilarious Dave !!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Reminds me of the time we had a major product recall and mktg asked me to come up with a fancy name for the recall program. I called it the Corrective Recall Action Program. I was already on the off ramp but I am sure that sped up my demise from the company.
To really get upset you have to take it apart.
I worked as an engineer for them. They are a load of fake idiots ps i live in Pembrokeshire.
might aswell advertise that the motor is gluten free too
Wouldn't the vacuuming of the machine PICK UP this 'carbon dust' ? 🙂
lol
Dyson is to vacuum cleaners, what apple is to phone and computers. Just a name, your essentially just buying a name.
I would think, lots would of fell for that sentence, if they indeed read all the data on those boxes. You can be sure, alot probably believed that nonsense.
Just another sign that the planet might be better off with the apes (from the movies). They wouldn't care about "emissions," one way or the other!
It does emit less carbon emissions than my 500cc 2 stroke vacuum cleaner. But on the other side, it won't suck the eyes out of your head if you get to close
