You should do another one with the current USB scopes.

I have a Hantek 6022BL and itโ€™s helped me learn. I've just bought a Siglent SDS1104X-U and even if Iโ€™m using all four channels it's 5 times more powerful than my Hantek and it does lots of things I donโ€™t understand. I only ever do small projects and never do anything over demanding. However, perhaps I should have got the SDS1104X-Eโ€ฆ?

It's been a while since you did this one. It would great if you look another swing at it as teh tech has changed. Now the Hantek 6254BD has 1GSa/s, 250 MHz bandwidth and a 25MHz AWFG all for about $260 Yankee Bucks Memory depth is only 64K, so that's a drawback, but the Siglent SDS1204X-E is only 200MHz and $700 YB but it might actually be 3 times the scope with all it's other features if you have the $$$. However, in the Hantek price range you simply cannot get a 4ch, 250MHz, 1GSa/s scope from anyone anywhere.

Wow Dave… you were such a hack back then. It's good to see you've dramatically improved your video production since this dinosaur was filmed. lol.

How do Picoscopes compare nowadays to traditional oscilloscopes, especially considering the extra connectors and licenses that some scopes need in order to do what Pico's get built-in? How does the performance compare for "final" cost of a setup?

Please Please do this comparison today. Please

Needs updatingโ€ฆ put it in rumble pls.

Dave , I think it's time for a 2021 version of this , with all the usb gen 3.1 gen 2 non sence

Digital scope tutorial? I thought you were going to show us how to use one not talk about it's spec?

I agree, a new version of this video with the updated versions of the PC scopes is needed. Please do it. Your observations are useful and valuable for us. Thanks in advance.

I think that for measuring the basics (e.g. frequency response, noise) of audio equipment the pc scilloscope is competent enough.

I recently got a Hantek 1008 because i needed to see and sample up to 8 things at once, and it was the cheapest ๐Ÿ˜€ It has all the engine diagnostics but all i needed was the scope mode, and i was very impressed. Both the sample rate, real time display and bandwidth were good, the software very easy to use and you can do math functions, period & frequency on the channels. It does have drawbacks, the screenshot mode has a big delay so if you are trying to capture a pulse it takes many goes, and you can record but that also appears to be somewhat limited, and the worst thing is that it will crash given too much data, like 8 complex waveforms at once. But for 90 Euro's it's a snip. I like the custom screen so you can alter the background colour. I used this on an old laptop together with a spectrum analyser and second monitor. It worked, but only just! Some of the voltage ranges were also wildly inaccurate, but as a visual aid it works very well.

Hi Dave, has your opinion changed on this topic over last 11 years since you made this video?

Not to be difficult but the PC is the most helpful tool on my workbench.

i didnt notice this was a decade ago ,sorry

i know your right ,but the automotive field is starting to use them, have you tested a PICO -scope, they are high, but a cheaper hantek pc-based scope is a good starter. not everyone is a high paid electronics engineer

Yes Dave, it would be great to see a new comparison. I've just started getting into "hobby electronics" do to some interest caused by the IOT rage and my applications background. 10 year in tech goes a long way. However, $$$ is more than I'm ready to JUMP into. Please advice via a new video. Thanks for all the hard work on all your other videos!!!

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Josรฉ Luis says:

Great video! But it's 10 years old, both oscilloscopes PC based and standalone have been improved quite a lot, being really cheap options on both categories, it would be great to see a video like this talking about today's scopes. Thanks!

Rigol start-up procedure – switch on -> wait 10 seconds for boot… PC-based 'scope startup procedure – Switch on PC, wait up to 5 minutes for Windows to load -> Updates required (DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR PC!) Wait another 2-25 minutes while Windows 10 updates -> Attach Scope via USB -> Driver Not Found (Windows was unable to find a driver for your device – damn thing worked on my old PC) -> Start Windows Edge browser -> Surf to PC Scope website -> Go to Support/Drivers – WTF!! My OS is no longer supported… 10 years on, and the situation remains unchanged – PCs (including Macs) have their place, gaming, video editing, creating content, but an electronics workbench is not the place..

Dave! You have a couple days to 10 year anniversary at 17 jun 2019. Do I have to wait another 10 years for a decent usb scope?
