Dave turns a low cost reptile egg incubator into a decent 2degC to 60degC lab thermal chamber.
Throw in a Rigol oscilloscope, an Arduino, and a few multimeters for good measure.

The model used is the HERP Nursery II, also known as the BCR-25 Wine/Beer chiller and Pie Warmer.

Bought the t shirt and the oven – thanks!!!

in the USA we call them environmental test chambers because ours also cool. a thermal oven would be useless for me, I can get a space heater if I want to heat something. cooling is the tricky part.

If the heater is like the cooler using the peilteir device don't waist your money peptide device doesn't work.

I recently scored one of these from the dumpster. Working "OK" after replacing one fan and the Peltier. Not as cool as I expected but it's ok

@eevblog – I think you can get a decent (second hand) mini-fridge like in use in hotels (bars), put a 200-300W heater-element in it and a thermo-sensor and you can do faster and more cooling and heating for a pretty low price, also going from a lower or higher temperature. It might be a bit harder to do the switching for acurate temperatures – or combine the two maybe?

Hi Dave, May I know is this product still available? Because, I cannot found this thermal chamber from your amazon store anymore. Would you be able to suggest me, where can I find this similar thermal chamber with affordable price. Thank you so much.

I would go with small vine cooler, cheaper and cools better!

can you PLEASE please… test how much power the thermoelectric cooler, will make if you  push heat thru it,  I would like to see what you think and the test results that YOU get….. I have seen the rest,  and I think the best should give it a try please.

I have been pushing the thermoelectric cooler to friends that did not know they exist,  at first when I told them they said,  ha  what a load, there is no such thing. solid state thermoelectric cooling bla .  it was worth it , just to hear there reaction   I been plugging them for a few years now,   just love the reaction of so called smart people .

From 2010 but so much good information. Thanks.

it'll keep your favorite adult beverage cool when not using it as a test chamber, too,lol

    These friges suck balls.
i have one thats coca cola for 6 cans and work if you only open it once a day, and put the stuff in it cold.

I think this guy has been inhaling too much lead solder 😂😂

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Aisha Love says:

I thought peltiers were not efficient enough to do any kind of effective cooling, what I was told was that eventually both sides of the peltier get hot and it actually starts pumping heat into what you want to cool.

I wanted to make a heat exchanger for my window out of them but was told it would never work and would have the opposite effect.

this is a pretty good video, makes me want to tinker!

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mipmipmipmipmip says:

putting the temperature sensor right next to the peltier element is cheating a bit

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Skynet Cybernetics says:

Could you add more peltiers to increase the range?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ian Oliver says:

Dave, is it still working well 5.5 years later? Have you upgraded it by now?

I'm starting one based on a cheap-looking snack cooler/warmer designed for use in vehicles. It barely heats and cools with nothing in it and at ~125% rated voltage, drawing 75 W. (No thermostat, only a DPDT switch.) So I'm planning to put a more powerful TEC in it. The manual for yours says it draws only 60 W, though, and it looks like it works much better than mine.

Thank you for the tear down showing the innards of these boxes.
