Solidworks jack the prices up in different countries and force local dealers to sell at higher local prices, just because they are dicks.
I love how the Dassault Systèmes logo looks like BS!

Hi, yes it's a rant time. I Thought that global like a regional country based pricing had gone the way of the dodo or you know, was gone. Was been out of fashion for a long time, but it seems not. We were looking at buying a SolidWorks license.
you know for doing mechanical ecad type stuff cuz David uses he likes SolidWorks and is good at it. And so you know the website pricing here. this is the SolidWorks Dassault Systmes website. You've got to like put in all your contact details before they'll give you the price anyway.
SolidWorks Standard Here let's have a look at it. 3995 Yankee bucks. This is in Yankee dollars and plus 1295 for the 12-month subscription which is compulsory for the first year optional for the years after. So that is five thousand, Two hundred and Ninety five dollars.
Okay, it's reasonably expensive, but it's a professional high-end - no worries, right? Of course you can't buy it from SolidWorks you if you're in and outside the US you've got to go to one of their authorized dealers in the country, which is fair enough. You know this is quite common in the industry, so do I go to. They've got a couple of reps here in Australia I Go to one of them and they go well. The standard price for a SolidWorks standard is ten thousand, two hundred and ninety Australian dollars.
And well, let's have a look here. Convert the 399 five plus twelve. Ninety Five gives you, um, seven thousand, Four hundred and thirty nine Australian dollars. That's what the equivalent price here in Australia should be.
But they say that the dealers say that the standard price here in Australia is ten thousand, Two hundred and Ninety dollars. Why the huge difference? I Questioned this and they said, well, it's a supply and demand thing, There's just less demand here in Australia. Well, oh, Sherlock at those sort of prices, of course, is going to be less demand here in Australia Since when have you know supply and demand pricing in countries being a problem with software? No, you're doing this for some ridiculous corporate reason, fixing prices in countries and I Just want to say it is nothing wrong with the dealers at all. You know the dealers have to make their margins at like because they support the product and give you like local support and that's great and stuff like that.
So definitely it's not their issue, they're not the ones marking this up. This has been done by SolidWorks They've said to the dealers, you must sell it at this higher price. They have different prices for each country. Why? It's ridiculous.
So of course the dealers have to make their margin for selling it and support in the country and that's fine, but that should come out of SolidWorks As cut for. you know, actually having dealers in different countries, That's how it works in most fields, but that doesn't seem to be the case for SolidWorks They just want to up jack up the prices horrendously in different countries for some and no one's stupid corporate reason. it's ridiculous. And having dealers in different countries and the cut coming out of from the manufacturer of the software company in this case that's like should be standard with this standard practice in other industries. otherwise they should just sell it direct on their website. It's just software, right? It's just like people can just buy it. If you want support, maybe you can pay for support. You know you could have support anywhere.
It's just like email. You know if you want to have local training and stuff like that. Okay, well, that's part of your business. Like in each country, you know local support reps.
You can come out and train you and you know, walk you through things and solve problems and stuff like that. That's fine, you know. But wait, just artificially jacking up. The prices in every country is absolutely disgusting.
And sure they'll offer the local dealers offer a big discount, but that's not the point. You know, off this standard price. the standard price in this country is ten thousand, two hundred and ninety dollars when it should be about seven and a half grand. Unbelievable.
So it works. Really like piss off. This is ridiculous. Come on.
Fix this. What a joke. I Know and maybe there's It's probably common in this Cycad field. Is that all these other professional tools that's probably you know? A reasonably common I Don't know, Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
Should they be doing this? Should they be jacking up the prices in other countries and not eating the Commission for the local dealers and stuff like that. and the local dealers are willing to give big discounts which won't practically take it down to the standard price anyway. like the equivalent? the cash in it. Like the conversion equivalent price on the SolidWorks website.
but you have to get one of those specials. You know you can't just get the standard price. That's ridiculous. Anyway, let us know your thoughts down below.
and if you've got other software in other fields that has the prices artificially jacked up like this, like in the electronics Test Equipment market that used to be recently common. But it's like, in terms of you know, companies like you know, fluke and Rygel used to really jack up their prices to the local dealers and they'd force the local dealers to actually sell them at higher prices in individual countries. and well, you know it's kind of different for hard workers. you've got the import costs and all that sort of stuff.
But this is just software, right? I Mean it's not like, where's the huge cost in what are you ridiculous You just download it Unbelievable. So they might ship your CD or something possibly for free, but it's freaking CD It's until you download the software and that's that's it. Like it's not Like you're important in oscilloscope or something like that. Absolutely crazy. So if you've got any idea why they actually do this, or you've got experience with other software in the industry that does this, or even other products, you know, at physical products where they do this ridiculous price fixing in different countries. I Mean we live in a global economy now. It's just to do something like this these days. Anyway, I Like Almost.
They're gonna have to take my business elsewhere, just on principle. Anyway, leave your thoughts and comments down below. Catch you next time.
Everything about SolidWorks sucks, I can't stand the software it's so counterproductive and it gets in the way of itself it is literally holding me up when I just want to take f**** simple dimensions and create a simple 3D model it's like pulling teeth I would be done 10 times over in Inventor or any other software even blender. I cannot stand this garbage software
Don't use it for anything mechanical get an inventor license and you will be in heaven prepared to the hell that SolidWorks creates itself it's not worth it with the price which is hilarious because you didn't invent the license for half the cost of a SolidWorks license now and hand inventor is a far superior program
Dude I just started using this program and I f**** hate it it is the most infuriating piece of crap and the fact that I see that people are actually paying this ungodly amount for it is a f**** hilarious if I wasn't so filled with Rage with how horrible SolidWorks is as a goddamn software is a goddamn virus on a computer and it overcomplicate some of the most simplest things you would do any 3D design program for God knows what reason but it will make you rage and disdain I've literally just trying to search for simple answers and I am just getting angrier and angrier with how shity this program is
Cost of transportation
Straya tax
*~<{pirating}>~*
I had the same initial expectations as you.
I live / work in multiple counties , I wonder if the license is country specific ? will ask the sales bod. a bit expensive for me anyway , but that would be nail in the coffin if its country specific and not per seat.
Dave Autodesk Inventor is much better and Autodesk deal is way better. Dave junior will enjoy for sure!
Any things in the internet for more than 100$ is a bull of shit ,😂
You should definitely have a look at Alibre Design. You buy it ones and it's yours. No yearly fee and its very capable. Greetings from Switzerland 😉
They're also have to spend time and cash on marketing their stuff in universities and conventions.
If solidworks doesn't like kangaroos that's there problem, companies should have a right to dictate their own prices if Aussies don't like it don't buy it or introduce a competing software!
SERIOUSLY. VPN+ using your brain will save you everything!
I can get it to you for a fraction of the price. i'll send you my email.
Another vote for Fusion 360. Free for makers & startups under the $100K threshold. $500/yr if you're pro — congratulations! It runs well on modest hardware. We use it for everything.
Oy Vey! If this is true, why not create an LLC inside of the US? Then you can buy it for US prices. Also, if this is true supply and demand, then the lower the demand the lower the price!!!
Cant help but think the aus govt want their pound of flesh somehow with things like this.
That’s just crazy. Have you checked to see that another dealer/supplier in your area doesn’t offer different pricing. Could be a local thing. ———— side note, how would I get in touch with you about a collaboration project idea? Don’t need a shout out on your channel, but would definitely give your channel a shout out just for the help. I just want to make sure that my project is safe, so that anyone who tries it would be safe doing so.
The cost price increases were largely due to a shakeup between about 2015-2017 (not sure of exact years). Our reseller who offered better prices and better service than the big reseller was forced out by Solidworks (Dassault).
Want eye watering prices? Look at the cost of the Premium packages, especially the simulation ones
But the HUGE ripoff is that you need to purchase the software outright, and then they have a subscription (for support and yearly updates). Ok, fair enough I guess (although the subscription is $$$). You used to be able to choose the subscription or not, and if you wanted you could pick it up a year or two later if you wanted an update. But the unconscionable bit in all this is that Solidworks/Dassault BACKDATE the subscription. So you want to upgrade 4 years later? Too bad, you have to pay for 4 years of support you didn't get and updates you didn't get!
I switched to Fusion 360 and am happy with it.
whats a dodo?
I remember when it was $6k for the basic version – and they wonder why it gets pirated….
Local Australian Solid works dealers are dicks to deal with, after telling the pushy salesman we are going to stick with TurboCAD for now, they immediately spewed out all this piracy nonsense with not so subtle allegations and threats. We went with AutocadLT eventually.
Pirate software… this is the solution. You're welcome.
I wonder about the legality of doing so but the first thing that comes to mind is buying the license using a US vpn or proxy.
I hate Autodesk for the same reason. Plus now their always online and remote processing bullshit. I used a photogrammetry (ReMake now is ReCap Photo) program that worked nicely but then they changed their licence and now you can't even compute your data in your computer, its only an user interface, then you send all your data to their server farms for computing and depending in how much data you have to submit is the amount of credits you have to pay! there is no option to use your computer at all, if your connection is not great you are in trouble if you have to meet deadlines. Good thing there are competitors, now i got agisoft photoscan, permanent licence no subscription BS and Blender. Yeah i promote their competitors they saved my butt and i am so fed up with ADs recent BS.
Altium at least tryes to offer something for everyone. The free cloudbased Circuitmaker with a lot of restrictions on productivity, Circuitstudio with some more features and a somewhat payable price for the small business, and the Altium Designer for a few thousand bucks with everything they have. I'm not totally in love with all the licensing-chaos and crap Altium does, but they made some steps already over the last years, and i really hope they rework the licensing options and prices for the full Designer in the near future…
