Hi, yes, it's YouTube stupid time again. What have YouTube done This time? Because they have a fabulous history of just doing the most ridiculous stuff and screwing their content creators. What have they done this time? YouTube restricted mode which is designed to um, protect uh, people from harmful opinion ions and content that might offend them or content that might disturb them or whatever. and well, let's not get into all that, but it's made all the news recently.

Uh, where a lot of Uh channels have been uh, like totally, uh, cut off, Totally cut off if you turn on YouTube restricted mode it's an option down the bottom of the screen. Go look it up. Right now. if you're watching Youtube right down the bottom of the screen, there'll be a little setting for restricted mode on or off And it's designed for uh, you know things like uh, say you're using head computers in a school or something like that.

You know you might turn on restricted mode so that, uh, kids can't accidentally come across questionable material and you know, Noble enough intention, right? But so many YouTubers have been caught up in this, especially like, uh, news, uh, programs and stuff like that where they've suddenly found that their content if somebody viewing their YouTube page has restricted mode turned on, then all their videos have vanished, gone poof like I'm talking massive channels and I'll show you uh one in a minute and I thought okay, you know no way my channel could be affected by something like this. CU I do engineering right I don't do uh off-topic political rants I think I did once or twice back five years ago or something. But basically I just do you know engineering videos. There's no no way it could affect a channel like me.

Uh, a lot of big YouTubers have been hit that have lots of you know very opinionated content, current affairs content, and other you know content that some people might find offensive or something like that, but nah, can't affect me. Oh yeah, you want a bet, let's go have a look, Shall we? Here we go: YouTube Restricted mode here it comes. let's have a look. Here's my channel here and thankfully thank you very much YouTube for being so generous.

All my videos are still there and you can actually go to my I'm logged in, but you can go to a uh Channel like an account where I'm not logged in and my videos are all still there. Everything's hunky dory right? uh-uh I Noticed this on my latest video. Look at this right I've got here. It is down the bottom YouTube Restricted mode on.

so if I just move my face up there, there you go. um, restricted mode on or off and I believe it's off by default or whatever and that's fine. but when you turn it on, look. All of my comments have vanished on this video.

A shocking oscilloscope problem. It's a video about oscilloscopes. Restricted mode has hidden comments for this video and I thought oh okay, somebody actually said something that's triggered some algorithm somewhere. right? and okay, you know it's just some stupid YouTube algorithm thing.

We've seen it before. Okay, um, and that would be an issue in its own right. But no. go look at my other videos.

That's my next recent one. Restricted Mode Restricted Mode All my comments it looks like on every one of my last five videos haven't checked further than that. But if I go back to my very first video Eev Vog number One Restricted Mode Every single video, all 1,00 or whatever videos on my channel have had their comments restricted. everything.

What The Photon YouTube is going on here. This is utterly insane. An engineering channel to have all its comments disabled and watch. I mean if if I go down here and I actually, um, turn it back off, then Bingo is going to pop back up and all my com ments load again.

Thank you very much. But you turn restricted mode on every single comment on every single video I have ever made is turned off. So like school students or whatever if they're you know, at University studying engineering or whatever and the university deems. Oh, we got to have all the computers turn restricted mode on to protect the students.

Um, they can't comment on my videos. This is absolutely insane What the Photon is going on here? This is just absolute Insanity Anyway, let me take you over to here very quickly. let's have a look. Okay, so I'm all good.

All my videos are still there so like I'm this is an account which is not logged in. This is a different Bowser so it looks like please tell me if any of my videos are missing um but it looks like they seem to be all there. so it unlike some channels like Philip Franco like Phil def Franco who just covers Daily News and stuff you know, pretty like Central leaning kind of commentary. Nothing in the least bit really offensive about what he says or done.

his channel. look, there's only two videos available. How many videos do this guy actually? uh, made tons right? There's only two videos. Everything else is missing with restricted mode turned on.

What? I Like what can you say about this? It's just it's ridiculous. An engineering Channel like mine has all the comments disabled. Bloody ridiculous. it's and none.

Apparently none of the uh old media old media, uh channels like you know, your CNN and your Fox News and all that. sort of. None of those have been affected of course. um so is it.

You know some sort of attack on the New Media uh like all of us YouTubers um just being shut down and let's not get into the whole censorship thing. and Google's a private company like YouTube's a private company? Whatever this is, this is just ridiculous. An engineering Channel I've lost all my comments. For anyone with restricted mode turned on, sure you'll have the option to go turn restricted mode off or it's off by default which is fine, but that that is not the point.

Why have I been caught up in this it every single video I've ever made I got nothing more to say that's just ridiculous if you got any other. If you know of any other channels, especially in the engineering space that have been effective I only checked a couple and I haven't found one yet. Um, so I might be the only one in our um industry to be affected by this, but yeah, let us know and if you know exactly what's caused it, Was it some offensive comment from one person from seven years ago on one video that caused my all the comments on my channel to be shut down?
