Hi, Why am I in the car? Well it's road trip Time Beauty I'm getting out of the lab for a change. Awesome now. I Did a video a little while ago on how Australia is switching off their analog uh or have switched off their analog TV transmitters here in Sydney and I Thought it'd be really cool if we could get a tear down of one of these um, old analog TV transmitters could be really interesting and I figure. well you know, like they decommissioned them so they just probably sitting there Gathering dust They don't know what to do with them.
So I figure I'd Rock up to the Uh transmitter uh station here in Sydney at Artan. knock on the door, introduce myself and uh, you know, ask if I can get a tear down of these transmitters. Hey, it's a long shot, but if you don't ask, you don't get. So here we go.
Road trip and hopefully it works out. If it doesn't well you won't see this video and I'm just an idiot talking to myself in my car to a camera. Wooho! Time circuits on? Yeah, let's go. And there's the base of the transmitter.
It's uh, right on the road. Here There It Is Woohoo! Look at that. You can see the elements right up the top. There It Is Well The door's open.
so I figure and uh no, that doesn't look like the hey I got some gear hello Vo is behind it. hey hey, hang on hey hello hi, What's no, you got it. Oh oh that feels like it's on slid it is on sliders. Oh taada, look at this.
What a score! From the actual Channel 7 transmitter here in Sydney at Artan straight out of the rack, these are what transmitted the Channel 7 TV picture for I Don't know the last decade or two. Brilliant! We have the If modulator, we have the VHF mixer, and we have one of the Uh Power amplifiers. Well, this is just like a preamplifier. a little wimpy one.
I could have bought home the whole rack and the whole uh Power Amplifier but I would have needed like a 5ton flatbed truck and a crane I wouldn't even be able to get it here into the lab. And yes, these are mine to keep. It's amazing what you get when you just rock up to the door and ask. Beauty And if you don't believe me, check out the frequency here.
Here's the Uh TC XO 22115 Mahz. But of course that's not the Channel 7 frequency. You have to subtract from the If modulator. Here you subtract 38.9 MHz and that gives the Channel 7 carry a frequency of 182.5 MHz Look at that, the RF power amplifier.
and yes, I got the instruction manuals complete with schematics. Awesome! Catch you next time! Um.
wank wank wank ahhhhh
Aww, shucks, Dave, I wanted you to be driving a stickshift (manual transmission)… like I do!
Thats realy cool wat would u use it for with out the antenna
That was interesting, i am surprised they let you have all that stuff, i dont think this would ever happen here in america, thanks for a great video, i enjoyed this very much,
Lol that man told him off when he walked in.
Nice going. Never thought of that. I'll make a roadtrip.
next min we start to get analog tv again with one Channel called the EEV show 🙂
Stunning looking technology! What is this all of this copper tubing and square black ducks? In another video on YouTube, the same type of transmitter has been filmed working and it's a lot of noise like 5 big industrial HVAC compressors and fans working together! So, I also notice the same squared elbow copper tubing with huge black ducking… What is this? New digital transmitters seem ugly towards this old transmission technology! 🙂
Arrgh! I can hardly wait! This is going to be a Bobby Dazzler of a video.
When's the release?
say we all need to pich in n get him a green getco suite and some green makeup
yup he will be up n running anay time soon selling geico insurance on tv
i bet hes got geico insurance sounds soo lol
WHEN IS THE FULL VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes, Maybe, Just a tiny bit of excitement)
those rigid coaxials and wave guides are huge, never seen anything like that
have you an HAM-Radio License?
there is a chance that we have a QSO 🙂

Disconnected very similar looking transmitters recently here in NZ. Much of the gear contains Beryllium Oxide, so please be careful around the white stuff! It is generally safe unless machined and the dust inhaled.
Can't wait to see the next one!!!
U seam like a cool guy, i subscribed 🙂
