"we gonna restore it" ……and by restore we mean sporterize it and build a family roll cage, racer seats, ditch the gauges, chevy engine…..basically I don't want a jeep but I want to look like I get down with rock crawling.
Just got a '79 CJ7 that came out of a barn in Tennessee. In pretty good shape and i'll be watching the whole series for tips and how-to's. A little intimidated as I get into it as far as you guys did (especially the wiring), but like the challenge and want mine to look as good as yours when done. What I've seen so far is great!
I know that putting a Chevy SB would be fun but honestly, I just love the original straight 6. Yes, it's true that it doesn't have the ponies of the SBC but it has more than plenty for a CJ7 and I think it's better for off-roading. It's better balanced as far as center of gravity and has tons of torque.

I have the ugly stepsister to your jeep,lol. Just got a 1981 jeep cj5 4cyl. In very bad shape, talking frame rot some parts are gone in the back. Needs full restoration. I’ve got lots of work ahead of me. Will the transfer case bolt right up to a 350 Chevy? Thanks
What was total cost after full restoration? $3,000 for Jeep and how much for parts/body work?

Looks like you guys know what you're doing. I'll watch the whole series. I used to have a '74 CJ5 with a 304 and a 3 speed. I was your age, and pulled the body, but not to the extend of mods as you guys. They are scary as hell, on the highway. Thinking back, there is no way I would have done what I did back then, but you're only young once. It had dual exhaust with the pipes exiting before the rear tires. It had a performance cam, and sounded great. Just make sure your brakes are good, and do not pull. A CJ can end up sideways and upside down real fast when breaking. Enjoy it, and respect the little pedal. Cheers.
Thats already nicer than most "restored" jeeps I see, especially on the east coast.

my dad has owned a 82 CJ7 with a 401 v8 (pushin about 400hp) in it for over 20 years and it makes me pucker my ass everytime i get in it… these ole jeeps are wild (and damn near scary) to drive
