Who else in the industry can give you 52 solid minutes of beginner advice on buying a multimeter?
Dave of course!, who started out wanting to give some "quick" advice, but as usual Dave likes to rant...
So you get a feature-by-feature breakdown on what makes a good general purpose multimeter. It turns out there is a surprising amount of stuff to talk about on the humble multimeter.

I'm at beginner level. I bought a AstroAI DM6000AR . I didn't use it often. The last time I used it was for some extremely low dc voltage item. Almost a year went by before I used it again. When I did, when I turn it on, it has this continuous beeping sound going on. I looked into that and found that its fuses were blown to cause that effect. Don't know how that happens.

Hello Dave! I love your videos and watched all of them but I have a tight budget. I'm a tech teacher (in a high school) and generally working with dc. Also have a 3 phase in my life (wood works). In my country fluke 107 and unit ut195e are same price maybe unit ut195e 5 dollars cheaper. Which one do you recommend? Yes I know, they are totally different in functions 🙁 I want to have a multimeter which is precise up to 150v dc and 650v ac, and secure … This is my top budget and only two option with same price in my country. I want an opinion, please help me 🙁

A great video! It's really extensive into details that really helps me, a layman in this subject, to understand how to choose a good multimeter . Thanks!

I can feel your pain. Most likely, you went through many of the issues of badly designed multimeters and maybe even burned up a few circuits because of a crappy multimeter. Still, I will buy a cheap multimeter because I cannot afford an expensive one; electronics as a hobby is already so expensive, especially living in a country with a VAT of 21%. So, this video will be helpful to find something usable among those budget multimeters by UNI-T, aneng, mastech.

Best video I've ever seen on meters. Wish I've seen it earlier in my life. I was questioning the accuracy of a meter I'm looking to buy. It's a 6000 count +-6 digits at 0.6% fm DC voltage at 0.1 to 600v or 1v to 1000v. It has me really confused because the digit count throws off the calculation of the chart in the video.
