I'm your host Dave Jones Hi it's contest results time and yes, it's the UEI multimeter which I put up on the blog a couple of weeks back and a whole bunch of people have entered. You had to go on the Forum to enter and this is the $100 uh UEI multimeter which I reviewed in the $100 shootout and it comes with the original box and it comes with and it's a pretty nice meter. and for those who are following a thread on the Forum about how this meter wasn't U certified in a test, I Won't go into the details but here's my version of the meter.

and as you can see, yes, it not only has the C Mark but it is um UL listed for cat 3,000 volt. So there you go, it's and it's got that on the box as well. so it's different to that meter showing in the video If you haven't seen the thread, you won't know what I'm talking about Anyway, what I'm going to do is uh, draw the results. Live here and to make sure it's all fair, What? I've got is a two-step process.

I've written a program which I got on my notebook which sucks all the names uh from The Forum entry thread that checks for duplicates and um and then it picks a winner at random basically but just to make sure it's a bit random, I'll do a two-step process which is a bit more exciting than a single step process. So I've got a Die Here regular die it's not loaded and I'll Whack It In The Box here and I'll do this as a second uh step. So here we go and here we go. It landed on number two.

so there you go. let's try this out. Okay, I'm going to have to set the camera up here I want to get this all in one shot so nobody thinks I'm uh, cheating or anything like that. So here we go.

All right. this could be a pain in the butt, but I'll give it a go. Okay, now what I do is I go into the Uh Forum thread here and I here's all the entries. so there's 10 pages of entries in the Forum thread and I go print which gives me a HTML uh version of the of all the uh of all the names and all the entries and it's got everyone's name in there.

and what I'll do is I'll save that file, save page as uh text file because we can't do it as a HTML and we will save it into here as uh contest. txt and we save it and it's done Now all I've got to do here is Tada right? Can we see that Here we go? Okay, it's called the Eev Blog Hang On Contest I'll drag it into here my little contest program and it's found 164 names. As you can see, there we there we go. 164 names found and we're going to do it twice cuz the die rolled on number two so we will take the second.

We'll run the program twice and we will see so the second person's name will be the winner Here we go but it found three duplicate names. so now we have 161 names in the thing and it will. It's now doing some random to calculate the winner and the winner is not Chris R because we have to roll it again. sorry Chris R your name could come up again.

don't worry about it. so let's run it a second time Eev blog design contest. Here we go 161 names and this will be the real winner and the winner is Mosall. Woohoo! That name's familiar from The Forum but we'll I'll just do a double check to make sure that Uh Mosall has met the terms and conditions.

but well, what do you know? I Just checked out Mo Ball's profile and he only got four posts so he doesn't technically meet the terms and conditions of the Uh contest. so I that's I'd probably let him get away with it. but here's a post from him himself that says that he already owns a pile of handheld meters including bench meters. so no, sorry Mosall, love to give it to you.

But I think the only fair thing to do is to do a redraw. You don't meet the terms of conditions you already got a shitload of meters. So here we go. Let's do it again.

Sorry what dice back in the box? Here we go. Oh one it land. it landed on number one. So we're going to run the program one more time and see who the winner is.
