All right. Carsten We're gonna unbox a Lunar Rover. A Lunar Rover unboxing. Let's do it.

Yeah, You down here? Yeah. Sizable? Oh yeah. okay. no couple we carefully carefully here we go.

Oh alright. not regular lose week only. but Dan of it we glued well. Wiggle in.

Wiggle in a Lunar Rover. Tada. Oh come on up. Yep.

Alright do you tell Aha Wow that is bigger That is much bigger than I thought it would be I thought it'd be about that big. You know what's funny that uh, you know no one's ever said to me. Wow, this is about the size I expected. You know there's another computer coming.

Oh this is bigger than that people can do. This is more than smaller. Really okay. Have a squeeze.

This is my first look at it. Oh wow. Beautiful. It is the Audi Lunar.

Quattro because you're sponsored by Audi Exactly. Yep and it's a Google Lunar Xprize. Ah Hot Yeah. Hot Melt glue.

Hot Melt Glue. Yes yes. Don't take a look at Boost Leo This is something that are just very quickly either for the purpose of coming here because we're doing some testing in the dark area and they want to illuminate it right? Yeah, that's something that you will find on the real robot. Probably all right.

Plane Watch: Are these the real wheels? Yes those are cast alloy. Oh there, No no this is some. This is a 3d printed aluminum. It's a 3d printed aluminum.

Exactly those. This is really a one millimeter aluminum hull right? I Like Yeah. Ron And this extreme lightweight? Nice. Oh yeah.

pretty sturdy and whatever. The profile is not exactly the one we're going to using a moon. I get more brighter looks of it? Got it? Yeah, the manufacturing is about the same, but on the moon you'd actually used cars. some sort of are 3d printed.

Yep. Alloy? Okay, three by aluminum. Are you fine for the moon? Excellence. What's really neat about those? This part here.

This is. um this is one part and the beam actually cuz that you see is hollow? Yeah, yeah. And so we are routing the cables for the electronics on. Ah right? Yes, of course.

So this makes it look very sleek. It also is a weight significantly. so you've got a hub motor in there. some sort of yep, right? Is that just a regular? Like do you need some space grade hub motor that keeps out the Lunar dust? and yeah, so most of it for yeah.

So far for the dust, you need to be very careful because it's it's very fine powder. It can get into everything. I Yep. so you have a good um I don't know the English term for it.

You need to make sure that the sail see ya is you have a very good seal so it doesn't get any in there. But from a motor you want to use a process motor and instead of a brush motor got it. Because you're in vacuum and with a brush it can't be that there's some cold melting happening. Oh okay, interesting right? So Brushless is the go for Lunar.

Rovers There you go. No II Tron Yes who is a Tron who? or what is the the Adi plan for the electric car? Oh okay yes of course right. Oh and you've got to have some four millimeter banana plugs. Yeah, that's a jacks.
This is da high-tech solution for switching it on and off. Fantastic! And they say you've got my middle plug I thought it has the Belgian flag on it instead of the German haha no and it's bluetooth is it not? So that's a little. that's a little Bluetooth antenna. Yeah the problem is that everything is made of aluminium so you need to get put the antenna outside to get any reception.

Got it of course but that that would be on the final production one know is the solar panel production. Yep ready This is a this is a priority-one yeah this is say it's a devices cells those are extremely thin right? and you can bend to make sure you know like I yeah just you know this cuz this like okay it does have a slight curve surface yep which is mostly for the nooks. All right. Fantastic! Let's have a look at the back.

it's it's a very sexy looking unit. It really is Wow It means you can see that we got some help from our friends at all. Howdy right? Okay, so didn't look this good before I already came along. no I Called the tank Alright, so before it was highly functional.

not very well looking but no, it's um it's sexy and it's really lightweight. Gotta you know in a seconds when you lift it up you will be like wool. Oh okay, we can list it. Sure, All right let's go right? Yep, we'll put on the table we hang out.

This could be a here we go. Alright, so if you looked at oh look at you on the top frame. okay yep alright let's lift her up. Here we go it.

Oh yeah, that weighs 20 20 kilos, 25? yeah okay. 25. There you go. It's some kinda bigger than I thought I Thought we'd be able to I like I seriously thought it'd be half that size I thought it would be half that cuz I was I was picturing us being able to like shoot a video with this in front of it talking about it.

but obviously that's going to change the logistics of it of how we shoot the video. so hmm probably more but that is that is awesome I've got a learner over in my lab. thank you very much Carsten for your coming all the way from Germany nautical I'd love to say just to see me but no no question you know he just happened to be in Sydney and hey I've got a Lunar rover and Wow Awesome! there you go. That's the world's first unboxing of a Lunar.

haha. Unbelievable face. Caston and we're gonna drive it around the car park just because we can and it's a Sunday Now look look all right. lights Up! Ah beautiful all right.

Carson Let it rip look Oh What? That's just bit required. Go Little! Quattro You can do it to the top speed of about 1 meter per second so that's about top speeds as far as you can get right? Ok, she'll see up Karsten Yeah so this is a very sophisticated remote control app that we developed. It's actually designed in such a way that even a children could use it. So if you are going here it goes straight.
You can go. the further you go from the middle the faster it goes right. And if you go little to the left you know it's actually turns left. Got it? and go to the right and it turns right and go a little to the left like this and you can go and live into the right and go to the right and it does the same backwards because it can turn on the spot.

isn't that cool? and then if we if you pull your finger down you'll go backwards. Yep and if you move your finger in a circle he will go in a circle. Oh no no nothing to it. No no this is so this is for example if you want to go if we want to see you all I Just what was right.

But the problem is that it's not easy to go from turning to so it's not a good idea to cross so it's not a good idea to go around. Ok, got it? Yeah, so but you can you know try round like this somehow I don't think it's getting up there anytime soon and have a go if Sagan can do it I can do it. That is blistering top speed. That's actually half the speed because Elemental - I believe it's so then imagine me didn't trust me and it takes another one 1/2 seconds until you see what you have done and so you can do a three-second delay to simulate what it is driving on the moon.

So if you press now one, two three and why doesn't look off? okay, it's a bit longer than three seconds. one two three. Let's see, it's a delayed whoa. we can get down there.

Oh wow, that hurt. Hi check what I've got in the lab. It's a Lunar Rover. Do you believe it? It's the Audi Lunar Quattro and with me is the head electronics designer costume.

Thank you very much for joining us! Hey welcome! Excellent! You're gonna tell us all about the Audi Lunar Quattro and the XPrize Exactly. So this is actually the first generation robot prototype that we developed, so it's a before this one we actually had four other ones.

Why spend the time and effort in developing the tablet app? If it's just for testing purposes you don't really need a interface that is "so simple a child can use it". I suppose it was just for showcasing it to regular people to impress them and justify the cost of it.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alex Padula says:

If only that man and a couple of other people engineered this than I would call it a great achievement. But if an entire team worked on it then I'm not very impressed. Will it relly work on the moon if it can't go up a small stair??
