Live drawign of some Keysight scopes

And check Check one two. Am I alive I think I'm live I'm live. see if we can get this party started. Youtube.com slash eveyone tell me if I'm high No Okay videos my life.

Come on. Why is it not shine up Hi I'm Dave Jones from the AEV blog no Eevblog is now live Yes can I click on that? I think Youtube. I think Youtube have just changed their interface just to pop up on my homepage. Now it's like anyway, yep hello people pop out, chat there we go top chat, live chat hello everyone, it's up.

Its up and running 135. That's enough people. That's enough to not to prove that this is legit. Alright, let's get into it.

Oh wait. Oh yeah. okay. I'll put on the Twitterverse hang on.

let me just post it. How do I post something on Twitter There we go. Done all right. Thank you everyone for joining me.

I have Well I could go to there like that did I I won't Oh, bring up the chat in a minute anyway. Oh hey, Thunder squeak Hey everyone Yes! Oh look at this. I Got four of these bad boys to give away today. Focus you bastard.

All right there you go. all the electrons are gonna fall out for tilt it the wrong way. Oh Beautiful Black Yes, it's the 4-channel key side. Oh dear.

so X 1204 G for Channel 200 Meg Scope has got the bode plot and the function. Jen and I did Fantastic Beautiful Scope I Got four of them. just found them in the dumpster. so yeah, I don't need them.

some kind and give them away. All right, let's go I have. Well, okay, let's get straight enough. There's two scopes that I'm going to give away.

for the videos that were posted on the eevblog forum. there were like a hundred and fifteen videos or there abouts and I've watched them all and I don't think I'm gonna do that again. Seriously like a hundred and fifteen videos I had to watch which is great. like I love doing it, but there's just so recently I hate It is because there's so many people who I want to even scope to and like and I've got to pick two.

It's so frustrating. it really is anyway. I have picked two and we'll get into that. One additional one will go to a Youtube commenter because in the previous scope draw, those YouTube commenters did not contact me there so that the ones that were picked out, they didn't contact me.

So I'm gonna draw it again I've already actually drawn it. sorry I'm I'm not I don't think I'm going to do this again because the YouTube comments most people do not have contact information in there in their profiles and YouTube doesn't give you a way to contact people. So anyway, and I'm going to give one away to a patron supporter as well. I'll do that draw like live now So let's get into it.

Let's go. let's go into Oh Oh What I'll do is I'll draw Okay what I'll do. Let me bring this up. Alright here we go.

What I'm gonna do is I have a list of I'll draw the patron one first. Where are we so me bloody windows open here. don't know what to do with myself? Alright, get rid of that bugger that off. Okay, what I have here is a spreadsheet that they down downloaded from Patreon.
I'm going to hide people's last names so there I've got like 1500 patrons or something I think 1500 patrons no 1691 610 Thank you very much Sixteen Hundred and Ninety-one Patrons on Patreon com So I'm going to 891. So what I'm going to do is use Random.org So this spreadsheet list I'm gonna use Random.org sorry 1382 I'm just testing it I get 1691. So I'm gonna draw a number from one to sixteen Ninety-one here. So here we go and that person because it's on Patreon.

I've got their contact details or contact them directly. So here we go. Generate high from sure Lanka Please help me get a scope. Old Mate Good guy.

Greetings from Italy Cheese Yeah we're We're not in the US time zone so it's now. It's almost 6 p.m. here so it's getting dark outside. Daylight Saving finished.

Hate it as in I Love Daylight saving I Hate when daylight saving finishes Anyway, pressed press twice. Alright, so here we go I'm going to go generate I Hope everyone's happy with Random.org 335 Congratulations 335 I Guess I could jump to it, but whatever. 335 335 is a J thank you very much Jay I won't reveal a last name here I'll scroll across J Oh J it's what. Hang on.

Something weirds going on here J dot is actually Walter Hawks Walter Hawks Thank you very much yeah Walter Hawks congratulations I will contact you Walter So I don't know what level Walter is. Doesn't matter if once the same level for the draw on Patreon. Thank you Congratulations! Walter Hawks Hook you up! Oh it's fabulous. Dumpster scopes amazing what you find in the dumpster.

Unbelievable. It's always brand-new doxxed I've got to say the full name, you know? Walter Hawks yeah sorry, that's I Guess you get duck stiff. You win right? Anyway, right? Hey, all right, check the HTTP US certificate. Yeah, it looks good.

Integrity service. Yeah it looks good. All right. I think it's good Anyway, So there you go.

Congratulations now the two people from the video contest entries and thank you everyone who went I Didn't expect that many people to go to the effort to make a video because most people are inherently lazy. They you know they'll leave a comment that's easy to enter. add rule. that's why I got 10,000 entries for the comments and I don't know a thousand or two for the just the forum or whatever you gotta be for.

Remember and but only a hundred and fifteen videos only. but that was a lot to look and I watched every single one of them I made like a spreadsheet I won't show you because it's got like various comments and things like that against each video of you know, linking to the video, which country, they're frail, whether or not they're a student, whether or not they're like a hackerspace and some details about you know what they, what they do, and what projects they're working on and stuff like that. So they were I think there were one hundred and fifteen hundred ten it says. yes.
Some of them liked the video advantaged I couldn't watch it. too bad. sorry. So I have picked two winners from this I like seriously, it's so hard.

There are so many people who I wanted to give a scope to really actually so let me hopefully my video. hopefully the audio is going to come through here. This one a special shout out. This is not a winner.

sorry it wasn't good enough but I thought it was clever and this one has to get a shout out I had a random bytes dotnet thank you very much. The reason is obvious why they want to Skype a grand total of a two second video and here it is: I already have a spot for it I already have a spot for it I already have a spot for it next I don't have a spot for it I already have a spot for it Fantastic! Love it! I don't know what these random videos here I Got no idea I'm like I'm using edge normally people comment I don't normally use edge I use edge when like I'm not logged into anything. it doesn't have any history or anything like that. So yeah.

anyway. special shout-out for that and also sorry and also a special shout-out to this youngster. a 12 year old who is not a winner here. but I will ensure that he gets some stuff I'll send him some stuff and yeah Justin Campbell thank you very much.

Let's listen to Justin 2480 CPU here to track signals going to the TI serial cable I have here plugging into the RC 2014 Very handy camera work. My little corner corner of the room and so far this is my test equipment so yeah, that's not gonna help me troubleshoot that and I'm also working on adding some switches and stuff to it I also bought a copper clad board on to etch PCBs for it and CRT monitor a little CRT monitor - mmm sorry uh to hook on to it so that's why I would like a scope short and easy. Alright, thank you. Cool, well done Justin Brilliant! He's twelve fantasti He's got into the lab there we sees component cabinets and excellent I Hope he knows what he's doing with the CRTs looks he's going places I Hope he knows what he's doing with the CRT because that can be a little bit dangerous there.

I'm didn't see any driving stuff behind it. Assume he's going to hook it up to the RC 2014 Zero E computer. They're fantastic. Anyway, Awesome! I hope you heard that.

does the audio work new? Elon Musk yeah he's going places smart kid. Yeah I really like that video but sorry is not a winner. but I'll make sure he gets some stuff. oh my oh I'll send him some stuff I've got here in the lab so yeah yeah, what do I think about a mixing? Anyway, tell me about the audio level.

Is that coming through and that particular video is a bit low? I think so. hopefully it comes through. Yeah, he's cool I Can't even win a choc raffle down at a local pub. sorry sausage.

We could crowd fun to scope to him. Yeah, crowd fun to scope. He's great I Love it. There are a couple of other youngsters on there, but Justin took the cake I think audios okay.
Cool. All right. Anyway, Okay, great I might turn it back down because I think the other videos are a bit louder. Alright, so here is first winner of the scope: a Computer Science No no Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering student.

ensure a linker. Um yes Sarah I'm not gonna you saw word holla sorry I can't pronounce the last name. but congratulations you win the scope. Let's listen to you Sarah shall we? and why she needs a scope? I Really like to design electronic products like you knew and I was very much inspired by your product design.

Meteos type microcurrent micro supply product, ravines and cleared out. Here's something recently designed. This is Lux meter. It basically measures light and he has the inside of it powered by a single lying all the battery, a photo Transistor project Ad 623 as the main amplifier, seven double six zero voltage inverter for generating negative voltage and this is the PCB I decide using earlier got it back from China I used separate downtrends for analog and digital side While you only started designing my own network supply based on the Microsoft I decide I'm currently using these buck and Boost converters from eBay as my power.

surprised. I'm going with the Ln 350 for the power supply because LD 30s explains you to me and I didn't want to go down to 0 I'm going to modify this as the track employee regulator for the power supply I also made this dummy you did with some modifications. It can go up to the oil of course I need a bigger heatsink and I made the Priscilla myself at home I needed the scope to do all these things but I don't have one right now I only have these two unity multimeters and I use this copy non-university lab but they didn't like when we use it for our personal projects. so they I really hope if you can give me one of those aside after these cops or any oscilloscope, at least a used one would be fine because I can't afford one right now because even a Rygel 1050 pose it is super expensive in Sri Lanka if you give me one, haven't met you I will take the best use out of it and hopefully I will become professional design engineer like you want it.

Thank you thank you you Sarah We hope you do become a professional design engineer. So you saw as I'm not sure which year electronics engineering student she is but that's yeah she's great. Nice little project there. so yes I think it'll middle is the 20th century the city of St..

Louis Missouri The United States Federal government condemned and demolish the nation's in downtown St.. Louis were African-american What? Yeah there we go way back. Congratulations you Sarah So hopefully everyone everyone thinks that's a very well deserved. there you go Christian Yep, excellent, So terrific.
So you're Sarah congratulations I'll contact her and she got so hopefully there's no issue shipping a scope to Sri Lanka I don't know, we'll find out and next winner. Congratulations! This is a bunch of students in Switzerland I can't remember what they're like apprentice electronics students at curiously they call it TAFE which is one which is our Technical College system here in Australia Technical and Further Education and they're a bunch of students so let's take a look. I Think they like 16 to 20 year old I think Yep, there currently have 11 Apprentices Electronics Laboratory from 16 to 20 years old. After their four-year apprenticeship, they finally graduated Professional Multimeter, Electron Multimedia Electronic Technician.

Two days they are studying theory at a three days they're in the workshop so let's have a look at their video. Love it! They do have no idea. Congratulations I'll get you one of these puppies they're from. Yes! Switzerland so hopefully no issues importing into Switzerland I don't know so sure like in Switzerland So hopefully everyone thinks that they were deserving winners.

But thank you very much Everyone who entered a video as I said, there were dozens of dozens of people who would have loved to have given a scope to. but I Don't know why I torture myself like this to another video thing like that. 115 videos I watched them all more than once. By the way, sorry for the delay in this, it's been.

You know, the whole lab just got ripped up and all that sort of jazz. Its back. Alright, so we've given away yes and alright. last one last one is no I've already done it Yeah, no sorry, there's another one.

Hang on. it's another one somewhere giving away the patron one. I've given away the two video ones and what else was I going to give away? Hang on. Oh yes, the YouTube repost thing.

What? this really? this is terrible Muriel okay, sorry, really, not on top of this. it should be. Oh sorry yeah, here it is. I found it yes the youtube comment What? I did rather than do it here live because I could be here all day I simply went through the previous contest draw with all the ten thousand entries I went through I used the tube buddy random picker just like I did last time and I think I had to go through like four or five of them I thought it'd be a lot more but four or five and before I found one with potential contact information.

so it was simply the first cab off the rank. sorry I'm not doing it live here. but it could have taken forever. so the winner is drumroll.

then winner is Apple works Great Scott Wooper Shoop doop. So they've put the Great Scott and yeah Apple works and they the channel is I'm a cosplay music player for short: CMV Editor: film maker a laser that's a Lazarus do stuff with lasers. you project stuff I don't know. Um, let's bring in here.
programmer, hardware, hacker and some cosplay stuff is homemade I should build with the homemade gimbal, stabilizer and parts and stuff like that. Cool. So um, hopefully I will link to a Facebook page. so I will contact through there in the Netherlands Fantastic! I don't even know your name Apple works.

but congratulations there got a 1.6 thousand 1,600 subscribers to the channel. so yep, over 1.1 million viewers. Nice! Joined in 2007 so that was simply the first cab off the rank. There's the random picker window and yeah, so hope be able to contact Apple Works! So congratulations Yeah! fun to do steampunk cosplay.

Yeah! I need some cosplay the other day? when is a Ghostbuster I've got a noun and got at my Ghostbusters outfit? it's not complete yet I've got to get a proper proton pack. but yep. Yep. cool.

So thank you very much everyone. So that's four. That's the four scopes. so I will be in contact and I've already given away the one on the forum as well.

so thank you very much. It's time now Five past six. I Can probably take a few questions now considering that I'm here live, Ask away. Don't cross the streams.

Yeah, it was interesting I tweeted this out the other day I was watching Ghostbusters because it just popped up on Netflix in 4k and so I thought oh I'll watch it at Ghostbusters in 4k and it was awful. the the grain in the image was just horrible. absolutely horrible. and I tweeted I tweeted this out and yeah and I tweeted this out saying like why is it so horrible like it's just absolutely awful and some people I think somebody one or two people said I was like in the ad that's on the film, that's on the actual, that's on the negatives because in the 80s apparently they they didn't.

They treated movies as disposable, they didn't use top quality film and and apparently it it wasn't Sony you did a crap transfer of it to blu-ray or whatever sauce they're playing is from for the 4k. Um, apparently was just crap. The original footage I've never really noticed it. that bad though.

it's pretty horrible. It's really distracting. So anyway, awesome simulated film grain. No, it's not that it's it's like from the original negative, but it really showed up.

every detail. it was just wow. hmm seems to bring out the grain I thought they'd denoise that. Yeah, it just looked.

Go watch it. Go and watch it on Netflix in 4k and let me know what you think. tweet me: hmm do you want my number just in case? Don't know when the next competition is when I find more stuff in the dumpster please I need my own scoop? sorry tens of thousands of people, only a few were going to get one if you were going to win it regional. Star Wars print yeah, but it's better and then like and just the other night I thought I then The Exorcist popped up from that's 1973 from The Exorcist And you know, a classic movie where Reagan's head let the hair head spins around.
Stay the art Special Effects in 1973 and I watched that 1973 and it was amazing. Stunning video quality. so cinematic noise-free It was brilliant. Stunning quality from 73 yet.

Ghostbusters One of the most you know important movies of all time. It's just grainy as buggery. Unbelievable. Hmm.

a judge at UK is here. Mm-hmm Anyway, anyone got any questions before I Go. So I got to bugger off shortly. You really need a sponsor just for your Teske for your current projects.

It love a one gig vector analyzer Thunder squeak wouldn't we all? I See tech people? Well I'll pay that. no I'm not a ham? No no sorry, yes I record a great video the Dick Smith one Mm-hmm Tricky dick. Stop calling me. Stop calling me.

Who's calling me like couple of times a day couple of weeks back. One of my advice: mmm Snow Blizzard How do I get to go and get the motivation to go to the gym every day. me beginning shape and in health Ryota do group classes I find like I have a hard time working out on my own. It sucks.

like just going in there and doing weights on your own or whatever. It sucks. It's demotivating. You know you're got to be a certain type of person to keep that up every day.

Go! Do Go To join group classes. Do you know a Body Pump class? Do a boxing class to a CrossFit training class. Whatever it is, do a group class because then you get the motivational music yet other people. You meet people and you join up in groups.

and yeah, you know it's it's just so much more. That's how that's how you do it. Hmm, no Fundamental Fridays in the works. Now at the next video.

next video already have half shot already. Half shot involves that. well, multiple focus, you bastard. Come on, it involves nickel metal hydride.

rechargeable. you'll see. And yep, that's video 1200 I think so. Hopefully I'll finish that.

I Was going to finish it today, but I had other stuff. The accountant came by today I got my. that's my. that's my yearly tax return.

That's my yearly tax return. That's all the documentation for my yearly tax return. So yeah, that was wonderful. It's always great when the accountant comes over.

Yeah. I I think everyone's asking for the more Electronics Basics I think I'll get back into it I don't think I'll commit to the fundamentals Friday thing not not every week I don't even know if I'll call it still fundamentals Friday Maybe I will, but like I probably might try and like shoot some ahead of time and get him in the bag and maybe I can then call him fundamentals Fridays maybe I might. Yep, Yep, the whiteboards up over there. it's all it's all set.

I might I might get back into that. Hmm. but I don't want to go back into the how I used to do fundamentals Friday it's a time quarter past. Don't let me go for another more than like 10 minutes or something.
Yeah, Fundamentals: Friday I used to shoot it like on the Friday morning. like Friday morning and come panic. What am I going to do? I'd think of something to do like and switch on the camera. go to the whiteboard and then yeah, it was.

It was so much pressure. selfing, self-induced You know, self induced pressure. Yeah. Is there a good, really good YouTube video showing a beginner how to use an oscilloscope? Of course there is.

I've got one such eevblog how to use an oscilloscope or oscilloscope basics. So let's go. Basics: I think I'll call it something like that. Someone will link it in.

maybe Mm-hmm I Don't know how you rebuild a 1980s analog LCR meter. My old magazine projects what's a good kit for do-it-yourself motion on and timer lights in a house. Well, you don't go rolling your own motion sensor. You buy a properly off-the-shelf motion sensor and you hook up to the relays and stuff like that.

You don't go rolling your own. You know you can't beat the Fresnel lenses and the whole like you know they're they're carefully designed. Mm-hmm So yeah, that's not hard and timer lights in a house. that's and you can use buy off-the-shelf like if you want to do your own.

you know is just for kicks. That's fine I Love you to do yes hello three. What does that mean? I must be making a fortune because it's so thick. My tax return.

oh it's my business tax return plus mine and Mrs. Evey blogs personal tax returns - it's all done at once. Hmm. update on the flood damage: I'm back I'm back.

the labs not in full shape but the carpets down so they're ripped up all the carpet and it's I've got the carpet laid back, the benches are back. there's a whole crap of stuff in the middle of the room. Can't set up the solder in room behind me fully yet because apparently during the flood it broke some of the glass. I'm not sure how or why.

maybe it got colder and weight of the water I didn't I have no idea why. thermal stresses it cracked the glass on there. so they have to replace the glass and apparently it's a big job and yeah, they have to. So I got to leave room for them to come in and do that.

designing our choice for extreme environments. It's hard to do general stuff on that really watery lab environments. That's where I come from I Come from the underwater electronics industry really can't find any magazines or articles on you're not searching, right? Adam You know, plenty of LCR meter projects in the magazines back in the day probably and probably hit its peak in the late sir these early eighties maybe? mmm, how to seal an anesthetic bag? What? Yes, she's a heat sealer? No. I don't have a kangaroo.

Why is also negative about evey cars? Uh, well, you know it's well. no. Look, we are a much bigger country than most. Okay, yeah, like what is it? Sweden or Switzerland Sweden or somewhere is like 50% Just hit 50% electric cars or something.
Or they sold more than more than 50% of sales electric cars here. We we've got longer to drive and stuff like that, we've got no subsidies. The government doesn't want to subsidize that. Electric cars are expensive.

They're very expensive here. And like cars cars actually. cars are generally expensive here in Australia because they're made overseas. Unfortunately, we don't make a single car here at night.

Pretty sure we don't toy a buggy. No, the Mitsubishi plant buggered off overseas. Holden plants gone. The Ford plants gone like I Don't Don't think we make any cars locally anymore.

So importing cars to Australia is actually really expensive. So cars are much more expensive. They're here to start off with, let alone electric cars which have no subsidies and stuff like that. So don't get me started.

Hmm. Anyway, so yeah, Australians like travelling long distances too. You know they like going up and down the coast and and yeah, electric cars for that is not great. It's great for a little city commute or something like that, but ya know they're just so expensive.

Well, you know no, it's like love an electric car. but I'm not gonna pay 60 50 grand for one, right? I think probably the cheapest ones like forty five grand, brand-new like the neatness and leave for whatever like I'm not gonna pay 45 50 grand for a bloody car. Screw that like you know, plan that much for a car. That's just ridiculous.

No, no, nothing on RC transmitters Oh Any tips for Bhaji: an inline resistors to wire harnesses? Ah yeah, If you, well you've got a car, it's yeah because you can't leave the Bulge So if you cut it like that and they go up, you got it. like cut off the right length. you've got to cut it and trim and then trim back just so that the resistor fits directly in line. and you remember to put the heat shrink in line depends on what sort of wiring harness.

If it's a ribbon cable, that's harder because you've got to strip more back if it's a harness and you always forget to put the heat shrink tubing back on so you solder it in. God I've got to put the tubing on? Yeah yeah. peer-to-peer technology for what what the you know we don't make I don't even think we make you tear anymore. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

but oh yeah, a Sinclair C5 still got it still down the bunker? Yeah yeah, Australia is not negative about renewable energy. Are you kidding me? Well in some ways yes in other ways. No, we have one of the largest solar power uptakes in the world. number of solar power things on houses.

The government gave massive subsidies that made it like more than free. You'd practically get money if you've got these solar panels. The subsidies: 60 cents per kilowatt hour back. this was like seven years ago or something.

And yeah, the subsidies were massive. We had a massive uptake of solar here in Australia so don't we aren't So you know it's not like yeah. Anyway, yes we could be better, but it's we're We're certainly one of the leaders in uptakes of solar power that's for sure. Due to government subsidies which have scaled back, they had to was Costner cost him asked the taxpayer to much money do any meetups.
Oh yeah, I probably should do a meet-up should do it. Yep, Yep, yeah. hopefully I'm gonna do some renewable Evie discover episodes soon. That's a plan I Said that last year.

didn't know those shoe goo really work as pot in for do-it-yourself stuff. Yeah, probably probably is. I assume it's non-conductive is it? you know I don't know what you know? Does it attack components and stuff like that? I don't know I don't know so long long term I Don't say it probably does I know it's you. What's in shoe goo? Good shoe goo but you know wouldn't surprise me if it works is the slowest internet speed by NBN sorted yet it's not that bad.

I've got a hundred Meg / forty Meg here in the lab which is okay I Know that might be embarrassing by world standards, but you know it's a lot better than what we had. So I've got a rock-solid fiber to the did fiber - right - here - five meters away here. fibre to the premises? Yeah yeah. Australia's got lots of lots of big solar stuff for thermal solar plant which I hope to visit for an EEV Discover episode and all sorts of stuff, but we could be doing a lot more.

We could be doing a hell of a lot more. No, no, we're We're not working on the one set microcontroller, reverse engineering sorry times up Thank You Fan - Squeak can always count on you Yep, yeah, all right. Yep. I better go.

Thank you very much everyone for joining the live draws! I'll contact those people shortly so thanks everyone! Catch you next time. Think I know how to shut this off? Yes I do.

Switzerland, one of the richest countries in the world, in the top 5 for GDP pro capita, quite likely each one of them could afford an oscilloscope with their pocket money.

Those dudes from Switzerland already had plenty scopes to use and the 12 yo kid had nothing ! That doesn't make any sense at all. Your selection criteria sucks shit ! ๐Ÿ™

Dave is totally spoiled by all the nice gear he has and the Fibre based Internet. I'd love 100GB down, 40 up but it would cost an arm and a leg here in Canada. I'm lucky go have 30/5 and that is still rather expensive.

It occurs to me that the Patreon one is not actually a giveaway, legally. Patreon is a required paywall to enter, so any contests restricted to it would be a paid raffle at best. The distinction could be huge to international winners since it may invoke gambling regulations.

Graininess on the original dvd version of the Ghostbusters movie was not noticeable back in the day, because we didn't have 4K resolution. We had a 4 by 3 ratio aspect scale resolution @ 400 by 300 lines of resolution! being viewed on a cathode ray TV tube screen. Graininess (at that time) on film was considered to have an admired field of depth that video lacked!
