Dave & Sagan score some more server PC's from the dumpster.
Will they work?
Will they be Dual Xeon & Core i7 Processors?

Hi thought I'd die dumpster diving times sake. and we got this from the dumpster Didn't week? we got a couple of computers, didn't we? These are ratting out computers. Let's check them out. What there are.
Obviously you know, like they've served their natural life and they've obviously dumped and there was actually yacht. two of these and one of these ones, as well as a couple of old desktop PCs as well. but we didn't get the desktop PCs because well, they didn't even look at the specs or processor in them. But yeah, when they have just a standard VGA connector on the back I don't touch himself.
they don't have a DVI That's pretty much my rule. There's a couple of these older ones obviously server machines, dual processor - no doubt dual processor Zeon's and dual network cards as well. But you know, this is like a fairly old motherboard. No, our PCI You know, like modern PCI Express USB 3.
You know? Yeah, it's got a bunch of SATA and stuff down there, but no hard drives. Of course they typically take the hard drives out of them although they have left the DVD Drive or yeah, it's a DVD burner and in one of these machines tada, look at the RAM ice core. These are all 4 gig sticks. so there's 24 gig of ram.
It's the old I believe it's the older style were Ddr2 is it. but you know? still. Okay, Oh, I don't think it sees a TCC or whatever. Anyway, 24 gigs of ram.
Absolute score, but yet only on one of these boxes. So I don't know why the other one was empty. Anyway, we've got jewel art NIC cards in here so I can have a look at that I don't know what one that is. no idea what's that? Brian All right, until is it there we go to Intel Nick Cards Excellent! So this was obviously actually I know that one of these actually.
this one here was used as a database server because it had a these things usually have stickers on the front tutoria and this one was an app server as you may have saw a sticker on the front. so running some sort of apps. No one running database or various things but this one missing its power supply. But check this puppy out! But this one I was really interested in getting because look, it's a modern LGA 1366 ah processor which means socket which means it's got it most likely going to be an Intel Core I7 and if you may have seen me, I'm not sure if it was the exact one I scored on last time.
but indeed, score one of these and I've been using it as a live PC and various other things and it is a bit of a B so I'm reckon odds on this is an Intel Core I7 under here. Sadly, no memory in up it's got USB 3 so it's an Zeus brand. So excellent. and it's the P6x 580 II There you go I'll link it in down below.
but yet USB 3. as soon as you see USB 3 and you start seeing the PCI X x 16 slots and everything else, you know you know it's worth grabbing. But sadly, motherboards like this Well, sadly for testing purposes doesn't have a VGA output which the other one does which just allows you to actually boot the thing and just see if it works or not. So we got two Firewire and a bit of an old school nowadays that Firewire interface and it's got this still got the old school our peers to Mouse and our serial ports, but USB 3 ports. Fantastic! But yeah, to get this puppy up and nuttin' up and running. Not only do we need power supply though, we might be able to use a substitute the power supply from the other one. but we need a VGA card as well. But err, I've got to fuel those lying around so maybe we can power this one up.
Yeah, let's do that, Daddy's let's do it. Yeah, yeah, here we got the light stuff away. Ok, you're ready. Sagan Yeah, All right.
turn it on, switch it on. There should be a switch inside here. Yeah, So look, oh there we go. You see the power switch? Alright, woah oh there's a Jules Eon sticker.
There we go. Okay, let's see if it does anything. It sounds like a jet fighter starting up or not quite. But oh, those bearings are gone but getting nothing on the screen let me see if I got the right input.
Oh yes yes we're in a Zeus over there we go. Tada delete to run set up. Yes we're in. it's working.
Say again. look at this. I only put in eight gigs around back only it works. Beauty Okay, it's found some LSI logic SAS thing I Don't know all these networking mumbo jumbo but here we go.
Yeah, there we go. II 54 There we go. We had it there. Ah we see it in here I don't think so.
we had it there for a second processor Information: There we go. We've got two. Intel Xeon 2gig II 5405 I don't know any good. So I just went and checked and they have a CPU I pass mark benchmark which is you know a rough figure that I use to work impaired processes around about 2900 so you know it's not too shabby.
especially when you got to Z on Z So these came out in 2007 end of life in 2010 or thereabout some according to our Intel So you know for cause a pop high up is still a pass mark of 2900. Yeah, it's still a reasonable uh, you know server Xeon processor. No worries about it, you know you've got two of them. so there's eight physical cause yeah, but you know power consumption wise.
Yeah, it's a power hog. but anyway, it's a winner isn't it? Sagan Give us a thumbs up. Okay, let's now try this one, which I think is a core I7. I've got a video card in there, just put in some memory.
so let's in this one on Sagan But it doesn't have a power supply in there. so I'm actually piggybacking the power supply from this one over. So if fingers crossed, switch this on. There We go.
Here we go. Well, we don't know yet. Sagan's food. It's powered on.
but the VGA card didn't plug it. Hello, Hello Tada, It works. Sagan Delete Delete Tada. We're in like fleeting that this one works as well.
What have we got? What have we got? Tada told you? Intel Core I7 950 at 3.07 gig you Ripper And that one's a bit of a still a bit of a beast, even though it comes from my 2009 vintage. The I7 950 at Three point just over three gig is around about 5600 on the past mark, so you know, technically better than the Xeon processor in that respect. So what a Bobby does low? There you go. Although it's once again it's a complete power hog. This thing's like a hundred hundred and thirty watts or something, that's You know, it's nothing like the modern core I7s, but yeah, what a winner. dumpster-dive These Pcs seem to work. you know, long term, so testing or anything like that. but hey, that motherboards you could resell that on eBay The processes.
Maybe you could resell on eBay this motherboard. Definitely, you can resell that with the working processor on eBay That's probably what I might do actually. Um, because I've got yeah machines coming out the wazoo here and you have to buy a case. The server case is no good for this thing unless you wanted it as a server.
Then you get a new power supply for it and you know it maybe can get it running. but you need new fans and you know stuff like that. But that's not a big deal. But yeah, just the motherboard on its own.
Thumbs up, Sayin. Another Winner Beauty. Give me a two thumbs up Wow Their finger. No, their fingers give me thumbs, Give me thumbs.
That's it. So there you go. There's yet another successful word: Dumpster-dive In fact, because I said I could get two of these jewel pro jewels Aeon ones I could go rip the CPUs out of those. They're probably worth it if they're worth anything on eBay I haven't actually checked I might go do that now actually.
and as suspected, I just checked on eBay and yeah, the core I7 950 still goes anywhere from fifty to a hundred Australian dollars anyway. Um, there actually were sold prices on eBay within the last couple of months. and but these are Xeon these old Xeon processors know next to worthless their novelty value. You know, like three dollars or something.
See know, ten dollars or whatever. So you know maybe somebody wants to serve a motherboard for not on a twenty thirty bucks or something with the dual processors? I Don't know. The RAM is probably not worth much Old Ddr2 even though it is 24 gig. But anyway, there you go.
Hope you enjoyed that. That's yet another successful old computer dumpster-dive And for those wondering, this is a commercial office building with many, many dozens of businesses fill in not several buildings here or using the same dumpster room. This is not something that's publicly accessible. You've got to be a resident of the building.
You've got to have a key to get into the dumpster room. so no, sorry, but that these dumpster rooms are quite common in these are commercial office complexes and buildings and things like that. They'll all have a community dumpster room pretty much so. Yeah, and we get lots of There's obviously computer companies here and we get lots of that computer. Throw out some things like that perfectly working core I7 computers. You know you can game on this thing and I know there's a lot of people out there. I know a lot of yours. he'd you know he'd kill to have a core I7.
You know, in that countries where they're still expensive and hard to get. So there you go anyway. if you liked it, please give it a big thumbs up. Oh - thumbs up.
Yeah, catch you next time you you.
bro you get fry tec all the time and have a nice family you are living the dream
Just because they don't have a PC card. Doesn't mean there are no good components inside. You are passing up possible memory, i5s, i7s. You never know. Office PCs usually have the most basic video. Passing up cash, in my opinion.
I would be happy with one of those even the older CPU mobo
that card is PCI EXPRESS and you puted it in the PCI slot
my pc with i7-3700 has only vga connector in the back
Do you want 32gig of ram for those machines? Found some of those a time ago but couldnt use them as they are ecc-ram and i only need normal ram.
consolle LINKRINI?
Canom, imilyn cany now
+EEVblog SAS stand for Serial Attached SCSI (it got almost same connector than SATA, except here SAS have a little plastic bridge between power and data sockets)
i need a computer so i can learn to program apps for android and compile with fast speeds
Hey where do you dumpster dive for computers i need a i7 but i cant afford 1iam currently runing a E8400 cpu iam good with computers so i can take a bunch of computers and use the parts to build a good 1 please let me know ether to go dumpster diving for computers and computer parts thank you
I wish I had that kinda luck to find cool stuff like that๐keep up the great videos๐ค
What dumpster do you dive in?
I just recently started fixing up old phones and old computers to run BOINC, I wish I had a dumpster near me that just left old servers like that!
now kid can play roblox at 100 fps
Hey thats the same mobo i just bought for 5$!!! i have an i7-950 in it, together with its max memory, 24GB.
that's what I hate is when they take out the hard drives
sorry I haven't watched your videos
Damn, where the hack can you get all that stuff…
Where i live i sneak into soooo many "trash-rooms" of tech companies, where i likely, should not be, but hey, noone says anything, so it MUST be ok, right???
And all there is are pentium 4 era stuff, ok there was a nice analog scope once long ago, if i am REALLY lucky there is a intel core era pc/server with puffed up caps (i fix those), sometimes allready scavanged, without ram, etc, just all the sensitive data still there on disks, unencrypted…
If i had a bigger pair i might "sell them a backup", just in case so it doesn't get in wrong hands ๐
A few times i packed their disks full of nasty to leak data (they were too small capacity for use/resale) with big red gift wrap tape, and card with printed link to free data wiping software, and left the gift at front entrance into building… hope they got the message ๐
Who the hell is stupid enough to chuck out a server with an i7 processor!? Sound quite fake
24gig shame it not fit in gamin pc, the asus p58 is a gaming pc mobo
what I love about this video is not the computers but the way you speak and treat your son. I think its pretty cool to have you as a dad. sagan's a lucky kid ๐
I would totally love to bring my kid to an hobo simulation
i would use the chassis to make a power amp rack mount as i build and customize my own amps. great score
i need that ram
Why don't I ever find things like this when I look around?!!
I have the xeon e5 it costs 2000 dollars
Where are you going to find these?!
id kill for that i7 !!
